Noob question...
I keep getting bugged with this window at startup. Should I?

I've had no problems with Windows 7.
W10 seems to get quite a bit of negativity. What's wrong with it?

Any way to explain that to a casual?

In addition you will need to manually check every non-security update issued by microsoft PRIOR to installing it. This means never using automatic updating again because they can't be trusted. Any mention of upgrade, telemetry, "experience" etc, hide instantly.

it's spyware made for tablets. If you value privacy and have a real computer, it's shit.
>>51683056
Privacy is practically non-existent with Win10. Microsoft has built in a bunch of tacking software into the core parts of the OS.
The dialog itself makes it look like malware.
>>51683093
Don't bother. The software bypasses the hosts file so it doesn't matter if you block MS servers.
And new updates will handily reenable the disabled spyware updates, so the list of updates you will have to keep track of will just keep growing.
So my only options are "Upgrade now" or "Upgrade later". Where's the option for "Fuck off"?
Tired of this popping up every time I start the computer.
>>51683093
to uninstall updates open control panel> programs and features> view installed updates
type cmd in your search/run box and right click cmd.exe and click "run as administrator" to open command line
task scheduler settings are in control panel>administrative tools>task scheduler
Your HOSTS file is in windows/system32/drivers/etc, which may be set to read only, in which case obviously you'll need to uncheck that in the properties dialog to edit it
DELETE GWX.EXE

>Where's the option for "Fuck off"?
just remove gwx.exe. shouldn't be difficult for a poweruser
>Being keked this hard by a curryniger
>Having to disable updates
Are you enjoying the SaaS Microsoft era?
>>51683148
Install GNU/Linux
Don't let yourself be taken advantage of by software. It's supposed to be a tool for you, not the other way around.
>>51683126
>The software bypasses the hosts file so it doesn't matter if you block MS servers.
it will stop some of it, and it can't bypass your router or firewall. You DO have a firewall, don't you anon?
>And new updates will handily reenable the disabled spyware updates
This is why you have to manually check every update before installing and never trust automatic updates again.
>the list of updates you will have to keep track of will just keep growing
This is true, but that's exactly the kind of reason why you SHOULD bother.
>>51683185
>>51683183
Unless you also uninstall KB3035583 GWX.exe will keep being recreated
>>51683056
People are butt hurt about their privacy, no one on this board seems to realize how not important they are.
Windows 10 is a great OS there's still some shit they need to work on it that's mostly aesthetic.
>>51683205
>and it can't bypass your router or firewal
It can't bypass your router, but it can bypass a firewall since the firewall operates on windows.
It's pretty fucking funny though. Microsoft is so good that their customers are actually disabling updates.
If you want. If you're not autistic, win 10 is a fine OS.
>>51683014
you installed the update for windows update, didn't you?
>>51683078
I avoid having to do this bullshit by installing vista. It's a pretty comfy OS.
>>51683779
No idea. It just randomly updates when I shut down the computer. I never check what the updates are.
>>51683767
Kek
Yes, it's worth it
