no.

Literally why

because smart phones and apple products are stupid

Even dumbphones have integrated mp3 players

Yes, Sansa clip + with SD card.
>>
>>51682816
Mine doesn't. Plus it has no real storage space.

I still use my fuze+ with an SD card.
>>
Yes. I bought 5 shuffle clones for the gym and cycle through them when they run out of battery. Better than replacing my clip+ every 3 months due to sweat. They were $1.80 each from china and get 6-8hr on a charge.

Yes, I have OP's pic a Sansa Clip+ with Rockbox. I usually just use it for my commute because I don't like using my phone for music.

>run a server wasting electricity, bandwidth just to host music for my own which in the end would cost more than spotify

>pay £5 like a normal person and have access to nearly every song I could ever want to listen

Only one option is autistic, and it's not the latter.
>>
>>51682916
>which in the end would cost more than spotify
No it wouldn't. The electricity costs are almost nil since a headless server can idle using very little power. LIkewise, you can use lower bitrate opus to use less bandwidth for the same quality that spotify gives you. It would save you money.

Not to drain the battery on your phone during long commutes, for example.
To have more physical keys.
Depending on the phone and on the pmp, to have better quality/more storage.

There, already three reasons, would you look at that.

I'm still using my Sansa Clip+ to listen to some of my FLACs and OPUS music.

The problem is that it's pretty old and the headphone connector is starting to fail. Is there any new player good enough for me to buy?

It's also cool to have one that connects to the internet and maybe use music streaming apps.

I know I can buy a smartphone, but I like to have a device only to listen to music.
>>
>>51683917
Essentially this, the one problem with my Clip Zip is that I can't put Spotify on it and it's kind of annoying to dig out my microUSB cable any time I want to put podcasts on it.

Opus plays like shit on all players, and this is coming from someone who keeps a second copy of their library in opus for playback on rockbox.
70kbps opus sounds fine for portable listening, but the software keeps doing weird things like skipping the first 5 seconds of the song.

>>
>>51686542
No, you just have zero understanding of circuits. For example here >>51686492 you say

>even comparing onboard audio to something as pedestrian as a xonar on orchestral music can't handle it.
This is stupid because it implies that it actually matters what kind of music you play through your DAC and that there are different levels of "handling it."
>>
>>51685123
I've been meaning to get the X1, but every time I remember "oh yeah, I wanted to get this" happens to be right after I pay all of my bills for the month. Maybe down the line I'll finally snag one.

Don't get why SanDisk doesn't just keep making the Clip+. They've got name recognition AND proven measurements, and they're just messing with the formula instead of just chilling and watching the money flow in.
>>
>>51686691
They really didn't care about those things.
They just mashed several inexpensive components together to make a tiny jogger friendly player to compete for the ipod shuffle bracket.
The fact that it was a solid player with solid hardware was purely coincidental.
>>
I've been using an 8GB Sansa Fuze for years.

Would kind of like to get a new dedicated portable audio player, but the market has kind of disappeared in the last several years.
>>
i have the one in op, one of the best buys on my life desu
>>
>>51686262
>Opus plays like shit on all players
I have no issues whatsoever in my Sansa Clip+.
100% of my music is opus 128kbps vbr.

>but the software keeps doing weird things like skipping the first 5 seconds of the song.
If it helps, i had this issue when running the dev version of rockbox, stable works perfectly.
There was also an issue with some opus files crashing if they had album art in the metadata, removing the album art would fix that.
>>
Yeah, I thought I'd use it but I don't. Sansa Clip+ Rockboxed.

I use Poweramp on my phone to manage my collection.
>>
>>51686739
From a business perspective, that makes it even less logical to keep muddling the brand with these New Coke improvements.

Shit, they don't even really need to spend money on the firmware, just open it up to Rockbox natively and get the open source love. It's like everybody's trying to give SanDisk money against their will.

>tfw the rockboxed Sansa Fuze I had in high school will never get fixed
Pic related, I miss that thing so much, that was the best MP3 player I ever had. I currently use my phone for music, it used to be fine, but lately I've been getting these godawful crackles from my phone whenever I turn off its screen while streaming music, and I know it's a software issue because it always happens if the phone's been on for longer than two days straight. I'm considering picking up whatever iteration of the Sansa Clip will be out once I start making money again, it might not have streaming capabilities but at least I won't be playing Russian Roulette every time I turn the screen off.

>>51695515
idk about the Clip, but the Fuze I used to have got almost 24 hours on music playback, and that's with a bigger screen than the Clip. I imagine most people complaining about battery life do the typical things like charge it all the way up all the time instead of waiting for the battery to get very low before charging, but then again Sandisk has dropped the ball with other aspects of their MP3 players before, so them screwing the battery up isn't out of the question.

I have the same. It's not an EDC though. It can fit in my pocket together with my phone, but it's just a pain to be honest. I only bring it out if I'm going out of town and have a bag with me.

I'm in two minds about it. The wheel sucks and isn't precise, and there are some things about the interface which bother me (like having no clock, are they fucking kidding?).

desu the only reason to use it is the massive amount of formats it supports incl. Opus. I would only recommend it for ancient hardware with like only 2GBs of non-expandable storage where 96kbps opus would fit an entire library into it, or if the player needs some bullshit external software like iPods.

Are those buttons printed on that panel physical? (or is the center thing a 4-way switch?)

>>51695702
>Fail how? My Clip Zip had this issue where only 1 channel had sound unless I moved the headphone connector in a specific way. 5 minutes with a soldering iron fixed that, and 4 of those minutes were me waiting for the iron to heat up.

Nice work. Rockboxed Sansa e200 series here, they built them with the intention that techs (and today, end users) would take them apart and repair them. Only time I had to take it apart was when I got annoyed from 10+ years of dust that had gotten inside the thing from spending a decade in my pocket. 10 minutes from "Fuck, I'm actually gonna do this today" to as-new condition.
>>
>>51701431
So far I like it with the koss porta pro. With the meelectronics m6 tends to be even more bassy.
It feels toyish and cheap, afterall it has a plastic case. All the buttons are physical buttons, volume included. The menus are awkward and messy. There is a customisable eq but I didn't tried it yet.
I can't tell you yet about battery life because I've only listened to a couple of albums. Monday will be the endurance test.
I never used a clip+, so I can't compare, but I'm very happy with my purchase.
If you are unsure, wait for more reviews and then go for it.
>>
>>51695601
>waiting for the battery to get very low before charging

That's the worst thing you can do for lithium batteries because it stresses the battery a lot more than smaller charges here and there.

>Not to drain the battery on your phone during long commutes, for example.
What is a car charger? If you are so poor you are taking public transportation don't even reply.
>To have more physical keys.
aka less digital keys so searching for music will be harder
>Depending on the phone and on the pmp, to have better quality/more storage.
Most of the time your phone is going to be able to store more songs than a dedicated mp3 player due to being able to accept 200gb microsd cards.
>>
Last time I ever used a dedicated MP3 player was the Sansa Fuze. If you really want one, those things are godly. Most Sandisk MP3 players are, really. I still have my old e130s and they still work fine. (The Fuze had an accident with some mustard sauce, rip in peace.)

Though at this point buying portable chargers extra batteries, and SD Cards for your phone are almost literally a dime a dozen, so there really isn't much of a reason to have an MP3 player anymore.

Glass being people's phones.

Anyway, I don't get people saying the headphone connection is weak in the clip+, it it because I never put it in my back pocket or something? The bit has always been stalwart for me and it's the crappy power button which has let me down.
