cherry mx red with O-rings, clears, or browns?

Need it for severe typing
And I'd like it to be as quiet as possible.

Also, when the key is pressed, is the signal sent just once or is it sent for the period of the time key is activated? Does this differ with switches?
>>
>>51682618

OP isn't there a similar board with the NCR case as well?
>>
>>51682784
cherry g-81 3077?
>>
>>51682724

Browns.

Signal is set once, a mechanical switch actuates on the down stroke, software interprets continuous, interrupted signal as multiple strokes.

The sensitivity of the multiple keystrokes on single key press can usually be adjusted by your OS as long as you're not on some obscure Linux build.
>>
>>51683129
Just the kind of explanation I was looking for, thanks.

How much difference will O-rings make on a brown?
>>
>>51683309
Will make it even mushyer
>>
>>51682724
I've just got the Cherrry MX 3.0 board with red switches. It's fucking awesome to type on, you could get some serious speeds on this thing with a little practice. The noise isn't too bad either, it's noticeably louder than a rubber dome keyboard, but it's not awful so long as you don't mash the keys with all your strength like a fucking barbarian.

Have you ever missed having a numpad? I just ask because I don't think I could live without one. I use mine all the time you see.

Nice looking board though. Nice mouse too.
>>
>>51683563
the only think i miss about the numpad is having an enter key so close to my mouse.

i like the ergonomics of tenkeyless much better though - i'd actually perfer a 75% keyboard, but they dont make them with matias quietclick switches (except for matias brand keyboards which are really ugly)
>>
>>51683689
I get the feeling that you love those particular switches mate
>>
>>51683563

Same here: Can't imagine trying trying without it.

Not worth trying to undo 25 years of muscle memory to touch type the top row to save four inches of real estate
>>
>>51683563
>>51683689
>having to use modifiers
Not worth it
>>
>>51683721
The modifiers on a 75% keyboard are for rarely used functions like printscreen/scroll lock/pause

i agree about 60% keyboards though

>>51683720
you didnt learn to touch type on the number row? do you have to look for which symbol you want to type?

it's actually more efficient
>>
>>51683720
>>51683759

What is it with people considering touch typing as such an important skill?
I'm genuinely curious, I've always just stared directly at the keyboard and kept an image in my head of what the screen will look like with my inputs. I can still do it to a certain extent, I'm doing it right now for this post, just for fun. But unless I'm transcribing something I've always just sort of preferred staring at the board.
>>
>>51683804
whatever works for you man - i hate having to look at the keyboard. slows me way down - muscle memory is way better than searching for each key (however fast you can do it)
>>
>>51683759
Shift 8 = *

How are blacks/clears for typing?
>>
>>51683824
I don't search for the keys if that makes any sense, it's like my hands know where the keys are, and my eyes are just providing backup to keep me accurate. I have oversized hands with long-ass thin fingers, so my typing can get a bit wild if I'm in a rush.

It's interesting how different people find their own ways to use the same hardware.
>>
>follow the memes and TKL keyboard
>can't even use Blender properly

>>
>>51683870
Good luck finding blacks/clears at a reasonable price.
>>
>>51683870
Clears are like a midpoint between blue and brown, if you've ever used either of those, they're stiffer than browns. It's a nice switch if you're a heavy handed typer.

Blacks will fight you all the way. That there is a heavyweight switch. Built for hercules himself to use as a workout. I would not type on them. Clears maybe.
>>
>>51683689
>having an enter key so close to my mouse.
That's what I missed, I have my mouse more up on the desk so I just remapped the pause key

Just moved to the Netherlands and decided to buy my first mechanical keyboard.

Any tips on which one? So far I liked the Ducky ones because of their build quality and that they are simple, as I don't need shitty gamer stuff.

The problem is that they are really expensive over here. Is there any other good option?

>>
>>51683961
Cherrys own boards might be at a decent price in the Netherlands, what with it being so close to Germany and all.
Which board really depends on what you want to use it for, and what features you want on the board. Pay a lot of attention to the switches that a board comes with, and choose the switches you want based on your workload. If you do that I don't really think you can go that far wrong. Just remember that if a deal seems to good to be true, it likely is.
>>
>>51683995
If you intend to game on it, I wouldn't get blacks unless you're really into strategy games, or have really fat fingers.

Looks like a decent board though, I have to go get groceries so I'm not going to dedicate any time to researching the thing for you. Good luck on your quest to find exactly the keyboard you want though.
>>
>>51684032
okay thanks fåm
>>
>>51683976

I saw something almost no reviews about this series. Is the only difference the lack of back-lighting and detachable cable?

So far they are my main option, but I'm still thinking if it's worth to pay an extra for the detachable cable.

>>51684009

There's the Cherry MX 3.0 with browns for 70 euros on Amazon, but as far as I saw, the build quality is not so good. But indeed, it's an option if I want something cheap.

Looking to get a decent board for under 70 with blacks or blues. Why the fuvk is it so hard to find one that doesnt look like shit and has a numpad?
>>
>>51684171
I don't have either (I'm using a Filco which is probably more expensive over there), but before I got the Filco I decided between the XT and the Zero too. What I heard over here the Zero edged out the XT by just a very little bit since as far as I recalled it comes down to whether you need stuff like double-sided PCB.

I end up getting the Filco because XTs are out of stock and Zeroes are not available in the switches I want, plus the Filco is readily available for around $100 USD (it was the last one in the shop and new stocks have an additional $15 slapped on them).

I currently have a chiclet keyboard and I love typing in it but I want to upgrade to somethig larger and more confortable.
I'm really inclined to buy the razer deathstalker.
I'm not sure about trying a mechanical keyboard because I'm afraid I wont like it and I'll have to sell it and buy a chiclet as I planned. Overall a big waste of money.

Not even remotely poor fag, just know there isn't much point to throwing a ton of money at keyboards above a certain price point.

You're making the assumption that higher price is correlated to a better product. It's not, in keyboards, and in virtually everything else.

Spending money because you're an enthusiast is one thing, but spending more money and acting smug about it just makes me wonder if the same poor judgement and lack of analytical reasoning extends to other aspects of your life.

Thinking about joining this Massdrop: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/e-3lue-k727-mechanical-keyboard

I'm relatively new to mechanical keyboards, just got a Ducky Shin 4 with blue switches for use at work since I type a lot. Gotta say, I love the feel and click but my fingers are still getting used to the resistance.

Daily reminder that all Cherry MX switches are memes.

>I want clicky
Get a bucking spring keyboard.
They'll make all the noise you could ever want and provide a tactile experience that nothing else even gets close to. They're robust as fuck and new ones aren't even that expensive. Welcome to the master race.

>I want tactile
Right, so you really need something more silent. Get a Topre. Yes, they're expensive hybrid rubber domes but with a lot of the characteristics you'd expect from a fully mechanical switch.
Other tactile switches are a disappointment because their base design was never meant to handle it. They literally stick a bump in the metal to fake tactile feedback that doesn't even fully correspond with the switch activation.

>I want linear
Ok, you want a mechanical switch that doesn't feel or like a mechanical switch. Not even here is Cherry MX superior. Gateron reds and blacks feel a lot less gritty and scratchy when pressed.
Durability should be similar and they even use more metal for the parts that usually wear out first. They fit wherever you'd stick a Cherry MX switch and are a lot cheaper.

>But...
You are allowed to make exceptions if you absolutely need a size or layout that isn't available with these. Or if you can't afford it.
But then realize that you've made a compromise and that the current best technologies for each type are listed above.

>>
>>51688422
Honestly, I don't really rest my wrists on it. I float my hands over my keyboard but use it as a reminder to keep them floating (over time you tend to relax a bit and let them fall). Putting them on the wood doesn't feel half bad, but I'm sure foam would always be more comfortable.

These are all Cherry MX Red keyboards that a shop nearby has. Anything good there? Green status means it's available, yellow means it's not in stock
>>
Kailh blues vs cherry mx blues. Anyone have experience?
>>
>>51691177
Soft wrist rests are bad for ergonomics anyway. Wood is a material that doesn't feel cold at normal room temperature so it's a good choice. Plus it's classy but generic enough to work with a lot of board styles.
>>
>>51691319
I would look into the Duck year of the horse, cherry G-80s, and the ducky shine. I heard bad things about corsair keyboards, and I don't know anything about the others.
>>
>>51691380
I was reading rebecca archive's and G80 got some positive feedback.

Grab the ducky shine. The other one is way too much wasted rice.
Ducky shine 5 is the latest shine board
Ducky is solid build quality.

I really want a shine 5 but they are always sold out.

I like the looks of the P88, too bad Walther had to pretty much join the polymer meme.

I'm in a noguns country, the police here use the P99.

Just bought this bad boy with Cherry MX Blue switches, as my first mechanical keyboard ever. How did I do, /g/?
>>

>Round 5
I have been eyeing 5a.

There is a purple and cream set that looks fantastic.
>>
>>51692853
You did fine.

>>51692854
I really got to like the Honeywell colourway once I saw some actual photos of Round 5, so I decided to order it in 5a. But you're right, that purple/cream set looks like it could be great.
>>
>>51692853
This was my second keyboard ever. My only suggestion is to look into a different set of keycaps, but other than that you did pretty damn well, that's a good board.

The closest red keyswitches to me are 100 miles away and I'm not about to drive that far just for testing a keyboard.
>>
>>51694149
>not buying a keytester

That and you don't get the full experience of your hands on the full keyboard of the switches.

big difference.

How are the Topre switches on Realforce in comparison to Cherry Reds.

just general anecdotes/experiences.

Get the Browns.

Not sure if this is good/bad for the fingers, but I find myself bottoming out a lot more when I type on Reds than Browns.

REDS > YOUR FAVORITE SWITCH

Clears.

not blacks, you don't want a linear switch
clears if you want quiet, blues if not

>>

Does there exist a cheapish Mechical numpad with actual numpad function (to suplement TKL or 60%) and has clicky switches that isn't blue like green or white (I'll take blue If I have to though)
>>
How much more tactile FEELING are blues compared to browns switches? kinda sick of my ducky with mushy feeling browns 2bh
>>
>>51699108
Blues are much crisper. The 5g heavier spring also makes them feel more tactile.

Browns feel like literal shit if you're coming from blues.

Neat.

I will stick to my ergodox though.

But it should run as two seperate boards like ergodox infinity. The trrs connector can cause issues.

Plus it requires a hand etched PCB which is frankly a pain in the ass.

A friend is offering me a Dell AT 101 W keyboard for $20. I have read it uses black alps switches.

The only mechanical keyboard I've used has been the IBM Model M units we had in school. I really liked the feel of those.

Is this similar?
