This is how far you'll get with just installing Nova and applying an icon pack.. It looks like shit, but that's just because of my bad taste in aesthetics.
You could get a much better looking homescreen by playing around with KWLP, but that's not beginner friendly.

These are the settings for one of the rectangles, the other one is just on the inside and slightly smaller. Make sure to enable widget overlap in Nova

I started with the wall paper. Then I matched it with icons (Elegant 3-D). After, I used the rectangle clock widget from Air - UCCW. I changed the font color to black with a 55% opacity. The dock is costumized using the Nova launcher. That's just some simple dicking around in the settings, though.
