It's just a distro specifically designed for penetration testing and comes with patched wireless drivers (for injecting packets) and a bunch of programs for "hacking" (like the aircrack-ng suite, among others). You could do the same thing with pretty much any other distro but Backtrack has all the tools for 133t h4x!ng already included in the base install.
