My computer is from June 2006, nice named "The Steel Tank", prebuild Dell XPS 630i. My top priority is video editing with Adobe Premiere CC and Adobe After Effects CC. I also game on it, but mainly mid-tier standard games (I don't need to run The Witcher 3 on max settings or anything). What should I upgrade next to get the most bang for my buck? I'm not sure if I should upgrade the RAM or the CPU, but I just recently upgraded the GPU, replaced the case fans after they broke, and reinstalled my OS on a newly installed SSD. I have a budget of roughly $100-$150.
>>
Upgrade the GPU.
The 730 is ass-tier. It's below what we'd consider a 'graphics card' and is more like a video card.
>>
Video editing is fairly ram intensive. Upgrade to 16 gb.

It's literally in the sticky you fat mess. If you can't work it out yourself by doing just a bit of research, you should just fuck off.
>>
>>51664271
Yeah, but even a MacBook can video edit on CC pretty well with non hardware acceleration. If OP isn't gayming would this even be that important?
>>
>>51664286
Well it's difficult to recommend a CPU upgrade since it'd require a massive overhaul. New ram, new mobo, new CPU.

OP should upgrade the RAM/Mobo/CPU trinity since that will give him the biggest upgrade. Not cheap though.

Nobody dragged you out of your desktop thread faggot, plenty of other threads to shitpost in why did you voluntarily go into one you hate?
>>
The four slots I have for ram are all individual 1GB. But from what I understand it's an older type of RAM... yes? So a motherboard upgrade required. Sorry I just want to see if I'm understanding it well enough.

by that I mean I should be opting for 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM?

You cannot upgrade it for 150. You could buy a new GPU, but since you don't game it would be worthless.

definitely upgrade RAM, at least 8GB, go for 16GB if you want to get more future proof. The processor is also kinda old, but it's a decent one, if you are not experiencing lags and shit don't upgrade it, if you are, get a core i5.

holy shit, what happened in that pic
source?
>>
>>51664260
There is nothing worth upgrading on that for your price range.

>100-150 dollaridoos
Best you can do for that price is upgrade the GPU and maybe RAM. As long as the PSU can manage, it'll let you do this no problem.

In order to upgrade your CPU, you need a new motherboard, and in order to get a new motherboard you need a new case because that one doesn't support any standard form factors. Not happening for 100-150 USD.

Save up some more money and just get an entire new PC instead of bothering with that old thing.

RIP Silver Tank

Yeah I think I'm just going to wait and save up, build something on my own. Upgrading this thing is more and more a losing battle.

Thanks for the help though. I'm going to just wait and save up.

What I would do:
Build a cheap PC with last gen CPUs like Haswell, Ivy Bridge or even Sandy Bridge.
Slam in some 16-32GB RAM
Put SSD in new rig.
Use old as server or lan pc for friends.
Don't even have to buy a GPU since the CPU have that built in.
Though some use CUDA for encoding, I would recommend using Intel's own QuickSync.
Haswell's QuickSync is very fast and since the CPU is dated it's very good for it's price.

Take out the CPU and do the electrical tape PIN mod. I did this to an Optiplex computer with a Q6600 and successfully have been running it at 3GHZ for years.
