>I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
>Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
>Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

People buy DRM free software even though they could just download it from asstorrents.com

People buy expensive software even though they could just download and use a workaround around the DRM.

Free software was never meant to solve the existence "unauthorized copyright".

Also if your software costs money but buying it doesn't provide you any functionality nor extra support it probably shouldn't cost money.

WTF, do you live in your parents basement?

I've made literally millions from writing software the past 16 years, 90% of the work was on some sort of OSS project or another, all for ridiculously huge corporate entities.

The only stuff that stays closed-source is trade secrets and poorly-written software; both categories have some overlap too.

Most MSFT shops I encountered weren't so much anti-Linux as they were just intimidated by Linux. A little bit of goodwill and I managed to get *NIX environments up any time I needed, anywhere.

OSS is extremely capitalist, probably more capitalist than closed-source which is more corporatist in nature.

>>
>>51667987
Gimp is a wrong example, but have you tried Krita ? I downloaded it for free in my distro download manager and will probably make a recuring donation as soon as I get stuff to draw with it.

According to a friend who uses Photoshop for 2 years (and runs Windows because Photoshop is the standard at her university) everything is much easier to do than with Photoshop and you may export it in matricial or vectorial. So her boyfriend will wipe everything and install Archlinux on her computer this week-end.

I still use Gimp for graphic work (and may stick with it) but Krita is GNU/Linux' killer-feature for graphists.
