Used a Mayflash PCB for this thing. My only experience in soldering is with these vidya controller PCBs, so trying to neatly solder all those small, closely located contacts on the Mayflash PCB felt like a nightmare.

Is there a relatively easy to solder and wire PS4 PCB that I can use for a new stick build yet?
>>
>>51659443
I also didn't bother to use quick disconnects, so all the PCB wires are soldered directly to the buttons and JLF harness wires. I didn't have QDs on hand and I didn't want to wait for them to arrive in the mail since SFxT had just released. Really regret it now since I want to change the art, but doing so would involve desoldering everything and basically rewiring it.

I re-did the buttons to get silenced ones on it, they're pretty nice. Sanwa Denshi parts are all I've known though in terms of hardware, never had to mess with the electronics on it as it works on PC/360/PS3. I was considering looking at getting it to work on PS4 but I have no one near me that could feasibly do it.

Got a second generation eTokki Omni with all keys / stick / top / washers customized. It obviously uses the Jaewong triple-PCB.

My other and more recent stick is the Venom PS4 Arcade stick which I outfitted with Sanwa parts. It's really cheap (sub-100€) and uses the Mayflash case design.

No pictures because I'm at work.

>>51659443
You could take a look at the Venom PS4 stick I mentioned for stripping its PCB. I have no confirmed figures on the PCBs input lag though and I mostly use my eTokki because of that (hopefully SFV will implement LabZero).

You don't have to make the pcb yourself. There are a lot of pcbs to choose from. I use cthulu mc but there are others. You could also always just rip apart a ps3 controller and use that. My arcade stick is Hori Real Arcade Pro EX for Xbox 360.

I've had it for years and it just werks. It will probably last me through Street Fighter V.

Don't buy into the hype of expensive joysticks. As long as it has a Sanwa JLF or a Semitsu LS-32 you're golden. (and Hori's in-house knockoffs actually ain't that bad).

Sanwa buttons and their "sensitivity" are snake oil. But them wearing out faster isn't. Hori or Semitsu buttons are -fine-.

Buy a used 360 arcade stick off of craigslist/kijiji/ebay. You should be able to get something <$100 and if it has bad parts, you can slowly replace those over time if they don't feel good.
>>
>>51675115
>for good ones, you are looking at 150$ to 300$

Absolute horseshit.

Anybody that is playing shmups is playing on PCs or older consoles, and you can find good joysticks for less then $100 very easily.
>>
>>51675506
anything that is universally called good costs bare minimum 150, you could get used ones that are good, but nothing new under 150 is worth looking at unless you build it yourself.
>>
>>51675582
You're gonna spend at least $150 if you build it yourself and you want to actually use the end result.
>>
>>51675631
no, the parts are fairly cheap, and if i use something like ply wood, i got a cheap base, put a print out graphic on top and put some plexiglass down and you are set.

buttons are something like 1-3$ each and you need 8, a joystick is 15-30 and the board you hook shit to is 25-30

sub 75 is possible, and i said above, i wanted to try and make an entire joystick out of cherry switches, which can be had for 50 cents in bulk. the hardest part will be making the joystick
>>
>>51672553
It's a bunch of particle board (cabinet side) cut up and fitted with glue and dowels. Plus a metric tonne of epoxy and sawdust filler on the edges. Plenty labour intensive but solid.

The artwork is a printout on photo paper sealed in about ten coats of clear lacquer. Had to chase the edges with cyanoacrylate as they were prone to fraying at first.
>>
>>51675582
No, you are full of shit. You do not need to buy new, and even if you do there are options.

Arcade sticks are built to last, and even if they have a small issue you can correct that issue without discarding the rest of the stick. They are one of the most easily repaired items in the world.

Right here is a fine arcade stick for $100 shipped.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mad-Catz-Street-Fighter-x-Tekken-Fightstick-for-PS3-/121826916426?hash=item1c5d73384a:g:oxwAAOSwjVVVpRwR

And if you look around you can do even better than this. It's a cake walk to swap out the joystick in some of those Korean and Chinese arcade sticks and replace it with an LS-32 or JLF. If you go that route you can have a great joystick for about $70, using all brand new parts.
>>
>>51675827
Thanks for the reply, sounds more complicated than I expected.
>>
>>51675631
Also untrue.

There are several people who will sell you a basic blank joystick case for about $30. You can then install your own encoder PCB (you'll save money by soldering it together from a kit). This shouldn't cost more than another $30 for a basic model. New joystick and buttons will be another $30*.

Beware of joystick/button reseller sites on the internet that jack up the prices on these things. Get on shoryuken.com or shmups and get in the community and you will find much, much better prices.

*You can get a very good deal by asking on the forums if anyone has Hori parts to sell. Often people will upgrade stock hori sticks to all Sanwa/Seimitsu and their old Hori parts will be sitting on a shelf. These are high quality parts on their own and are fine for casual arcade-style gaming all the way up to the semi-pro level.

Right here, under $100. The main thing with a shmup is you want a fairly large stick with a stiff joystick with as little dead zone/throw distance as possible. The buttons don't matter so much, in fact you don't really want the Sanwa buttons. You want something stiffer that will last longer.

Just buy a ps2 to USB adapter. Also holy shit dude. What the fuck is that thing

Like did you not finish the decorations or are the inner workings not full laid out. Looks pretty solid you ask me desu senpai

>i know its not good but i would still like to get it to work on the pc... anyone know how?

It is worthless. The joystick uses rubber membranes instead of switches to record input.

You would do better to buy a mayflash joystick than use that.

For people looking for a cheap stick

You can buy all the parts for less than 75 dollars just buy the parts and slap em on anything. I've seen a guy play at a tournament with a pizza Hut box. My fighting game buddy told me about a dude he knew that slapped buttons on some Tupperware. You don't need an expensive case to get your stick to function

I just want something that I can toss around and won't fall apart because it was just a funny novelty build used only once for some get together.

Never cared for fight sticks. Just use a 360 controller with some custom domed thumbsticks for PC use when it comes to 2D fighters. Works fine for me.

that's because you're a scrub

ty for being concerned about my wallet, but I really don't care. $150 for a pre-assembled 2 player stick is fine with me, even if every piece is a knock-off. it all feels great. if a button goes out or some shit I can always just replace it with happ buttons.

>tfw ps4 support but have to reconnect the stick every 8 mins

I wish someone could find a way to bypass the 8 minute bluetooth check. That or sony disables that shit and does a nice thing but that aint happening.

write an embedded program that randomly triggers 1 of the buttons after 7:59 of inactivity and burn it onto an AVR chip between the buttons and the actual PCB

*burn it onto an AVR chip and then place it between the buttons and the PCB

All signal is dropped completely once the 8 minutes are up though. Console isn't gonna be registering anything from that usb input.
>>
>>51678809
that sounds like a major hardware flaw
>>
>>51678837
Well it is designed to lock out controllers that aren't officially licensed by sony so in that sense it works well. There are wired controllers that work on the ps4 but I don't know if they have a bluetooth chip in them or if there's some sort of lockout method that they can bypass.

>>51678865
are you sure it's not the PCB's fault?
>>
>>51678891
Its a universal thing shared by lots of unlicensed things, like 360 to ps4 converters for example

I made one from wood and a drill. 2 player, 8 buttons. Wired into a Jamma loom connected to whichever pcb I am playing at the time.
>>
>>51677206
have a ps2 to usb, the thing is not recognized that way.

>>51677291
well aware its not good, would still like to get it to work at the very least.
>>
I've been wanting to build a fight stick with a raspi or small pc in it with av out for playing gauntlet on tv
>>
I can fashion together my own circuits no problem, I just don't know to work with wood or whatever.
I don't even have any power tools.

My favorite pad is the Sega Saturn pad, which was conveniently released as a USB controller a few years ago.

If I were to make my dream controller, I'd marry the Saturn thumbpad to the PS-style button placement.

I have a Hori Fighting Edge.

Its nice, and works great, but a part of me wishes I had gotten somethibg less fancy and more easily customizable.
