What all can you do with them?
I just heard about them from my CS professor and I thought i'd ask /g/.

I did google it, it looks like its just a really small computer. So could I make a gaming rig out of it or what?

I'm told they can be used to perform mathematical operations. Approximately 1 billion per second, and it also has the facilities to hold about 134 million numbers at a time in something called "memory". Very interesting stuff.

I used one of those at a facility by the name of McDonald's. In exchange, I received a bag of food, a "soft drink", and another, different piece of paper along with some bits of metal.

Most confusing.

You deserve those dubs.

Don't remember the new spec's but it is likely capable of about the same as a low range smart phone computationally, though you would need external stuff to make it very useable.

Think of anything you can do with a computer that has 256MB of RAM, a 1GHZ processor, onboard graphics, USB port, and no network.

Got an idea of what you can do with that?

Ok, that's what this can do.

Its a really small linux computer that can run command line linux programs, like speech synthesis and voice recognition.

what are these capable of
> the same stuff a regular raspberri pi can do
which is quite a bit because it has a bunch of I/O ports that you can use to drive relays, transistors, turn on and off lights, communicate through the internet or your home network with tcp/ip.
program it with python

At 5 dollars, there is literally no reason why you cant buy 10 of these, build 10 autonomous robot guards for your house with usb webcams and facial recognition

the sky is the limit with these.
>durr hurr it doesnt have a usb port or ethernet
so make a fucking usb mini adapter that goes to a powered usb hub. hubs are like 3 dollars, just add a 5 volt rail and you have a powered usb hub. and then you can do a usb ethernet adapter or a wireless usb stick.

does anyone have any idea when the official rpi 7 inch display will be back in stock? Even an estimate?
>>
>>51657777
nice quads

also it'd be fine to game on, as long as by games you mean stuff like the Doom and Quake. Which I think will compile for ARM, though I've never tried it.

You could build a custom smart phone with a custom 3D printed case like someone else did with the previous raspberry pi. Except now it wont be boxy and clunky as fuck. It could be slim and usable.

Your pi phone would be a personal Linux device, always on you, always on, running custom scripts and with an interface that you design. You will handle the updates and patches, not some third party. Seamlessly interacting with your work computers and personal computers, the nucleus of a true personal "cloud" that YOU own and control.

As the internet of things gains momentum, your pi phone will become your personal firewall, vetting devices to be allowed in your web of trust, and fending off others that are compromised. Having built it from the ground up, it will become your ever present digital bodyguard.

Or you could stick it in your ass and make robot sounds.
>>
>>51661793
it'd actually fit too
I think there was a thread about putting it inside a lewd thing and that inside your bum earlier
>>
>>51661793
How would you make it handle phone calls? Just copy the android model? This sounds intriguing. Something like that would cost maybe a bit over a hundred dollars too...

where? rpis come from england, if you're in the EU I doubt you'd have that great of a markup.

Source: I'm in the EU and regular pis are cheap
>>
Shipping them overseas to use as a cheap VPN server is popular, as is using them as a very hackable home media centre.
>>
>>51664012
Google up "raspberry pi phone." there's a guy who's posted the complete build and instructions, including a 3D printer file for the case. Adafruit sells a board that includes GSM, GPS, battery charging and FM radio.

Its pretty big because it uses the model A. With the model zero and a more carefully designed case, with channels for wiring, you could probably make something really nice.

>you guys have $1 and $2 bills

Yeah, but literally nobody uses $2 bills in everyday trade. We also have $1 and $.50 coins that almost nobody uses in everyday trade. You can get all of these currency denominations at just about any bank but they're normally given as a novelty item to children as birthday or Christmas gifts.
>>
>>51667065
>We also have $1 and $.50 coins that almost nobody uses in everyday trade.

Huh, €.50, €1 and €2 coins are widely used here. Then again our smallest bill is €5

Moving to the US and having to use dollars would be confusing
>>
>>51667499
For paper money, we normally use $1, $5, $10, $20, and $100 bills.

Regularly used coins are $.01, $.05, $.10, and $.25

The average person just uses credit/debit cards for most of their purchases but it's nice to have a couple of $20 bills on hand on the off chance that cards aren't accepted at a location.
