first mistake was using google plus
second mistake was MANUALLY SELECTing photos in google photos.
literally just go to settings > folders to sync > camera etc
on computer go to photo.google.com > download

1) connect iphone to computer
2) iphoto automatically opens and displays all the images on your phone
3) click "import all"
4) it imports everything on your phone
5) disconnect iphone cable
