How'd I do /hpg/? Am I finally one of you now? New amp and dac to finish it all off.

Hi /hpg/ I need advice. I bought a Senheiser 439 some time ago but it's not performing as well as I would want so I'm thinking about getting some new headphones.
First time poster here so I'll be using the template as to avoid any problem.

I've heard Mi Pistons are pretty great
While on similar topic, http://www.honorbuy.com/262-new-version-original-xiaomi-piston-earphone-headphone.html are these legit ? Heard there are fakes of these and the authorized shop doesn't have any in stock and even if they do, it ships from india

the problem I also have is that I really have no clue about IEM while I atleast have some idea about headphones

it seems that the thread about them on head fi just says they're good for 10$, but I can't find anything about how they're comfortable or have a fit much like the non-rubbery IEMs, which I preferred in the earbuds I've used previously (though this might be because they were low quality)

I'd just like a series of good in ears around that pricepoint so I can go search around for reviews and such on them. simply searching "BEST CHEAP IN EAR MONITORS" usually comes back with awful results

>>51648390
aren't these infamous for being fakes in almost all the places you can buy them from?

they are overpriced and have coloured bass response that overshadows mids and highs

its funny because they have too much bass to be studio monitors yet some people who actually enjoy niggerbass say they don't have enough

really overpriced too, the little brother m40x sounds much better, is much lighter and costs much less
>>
>>51649727
OK, good to know. If you were to spend around $200 on headphones which ones would they be? Or would it be reasonable to just get the mx40s and a DAC?

you should fill out the template because i cant tell you just like that

i personally tried both m50x and m40x and kept m40x and returned m50x, i like the m40x a lot for its flat response, i find it quite comfortable too because of how light it is

only downside for me is they dont come with the short straight cable that the m50s do, had to have a friend in the US buy it for me and ship it to me

also what do you need a DAC for?
>>
>>51649422
You know a jack is trivial to repair right? You don't even need to solder them, some hot glut to keep the cables in place is all you need.

so I have a pair of akg k271 mkiis right now for studio monitoring
I like these headphones but as they are closed back they get a little hot and stuff if I wear them for a long time
this isn't a problem right now as I have monitor speakers, I use the headphones for late at night

so I'd like to buy a pair of open back headphones >$200 for monitoring in the place of a speaker/closed back headphone combo
to be clear I want the headphones to be accurate and I don't prioritise headphones which sound "good" as such

what does it mean if i have two different headphones, out of two different ports (though on the same onboard soundcard), that both exhibit this huge difference of power delivered at certain frequencies?

for example: at ~5.2k, almost all power randomly goes to the left speaker for both headphones, out of any port on the onboard soundcard. is this the soundcards fault? or could it be something else? i previously just thought it was the headphone but now i have two doing the exact same thing.

ive tried now both the onboard and z. i only tried the z because the onboard had the problem in the first place. i have no idea what the cause is now, other than that maybe the software im using isnt playing well with windows 10... or something weird with my power supply perhaps? kind of grasping for straws now

in the beginning, i made sure realtek didnt have any eq on. the problem was present before i installed APO with peace gui, but i EQ'd it away with it, because i thought it was just the headphones. after i heard it in my other headphones, i started to think something was wrong. as someone else agreed, i was pretty sure the onboard soundcard was doing it, but after installing the z and turning off all of its eq crap, the same thing persists.

and yeah, i tried swapping channels both in windows, in z's drivers, and even physically on my head to make sure it isnt my own hearing

>>
>>51652649
>all open headphones leak
No. Open back only necessarily means that the rear chamber is open to the outside.
The side that faces the ear is usually much more restrictive with airflow out to allow for more lower bass inside the cavity.
Planar drivers, magnetic or electrostatic, often have an airtight seal to the ear. This allows for extreme bass extension, if you do not allow airflow out of the ear cavity.
HE-400S has extremely leaky stock pads and let out air, pressing it tightly to your head brings out more response below 100 Hz. A pads swap to something less permeable, vinyl or the Hifiman Focus pads will improve the bass.

I been using the Beyerdynamic DT 880 for more than two years. Some days ago I thought about buying a new pair only for portable use. I decided on the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. They arrived yesterday, and I've been listening to them since then and wow... I feel they sound better than the Beyers in almost every piece of music I try. This is sad for me as I spent a lot of money in the Beyers, but maybe it makes sense, as I suppose a lot of studios use headphones that are more similar to the Audio-Technica (which have a more neutral sound signature). Also, the bass in this model is pretty strong, if the M50x has more bass it must be bloated. No, I'm not trying to troll neither advertise the ATH-M40x, is just that I'm surprised, and thinking that a lot of "Hi-Fi" cans may not be worth it.

random question, are you using an amplifier or something with the beyers? those are the 250 ohm pros right?

you should start to eq the beyers for better fidelity.

hi-fi means neutral. obviously that word has lost its meaning in marketing so going up in price often wont yield any better results.
>>
I have the ATH M50, Crossfade M100, AKG 550, and Hifiman HE400i.

Which headphones will not induce buyers remorse and feel like a different enough addition to what I have?

Price range is whatever, I guess no more than 1000$, if it's worth it.
>>
>>51656218
you have he400i... unless youre looking for a different sound signature, theres not much of a point. and even then you could just use the eq to create it

other than that, people say planars weakness is their "soundstage," but that shit is bullshit imo fampai
>>
>>51656240
Maybe higher tier closed headphones? idk

I love the 400i. Sometimes I switch to m50 or crossfade for industrial metal or something else that bass is nice on.

How far can you go with EQ? Putting bass higher on 400i it can get really bassy obviously but doesn't feel as tight as m100, I guess simply because of their build.
