Can't overclock on an H-motherboard so it doesn't matter. No games will bottleneck that card but you won't be able to stream or record CPU intensive games while maintaining 144 fps with any i5.

The price difference between the k series is negligible and without a doubt worth the extra couple dollars. Not all goes are dependent on the graphics card alone and many games these days are poorly optimized. The K series is unquestionably the better choice and is always recommended to any computer that will be used for more than being a Facebook machine.
A slow hard drive will certainly make game loading times incredibly slow. Load times are even slow on HDD these days. Much less a blue drive at 5400 designed to be used as a backup drive and bulk media storage. That's why the black drives are labeled as performance drives with a higher cost per gb because of the speeds and performance it offers at 7200rpm.
Your motherboard chipset isn't designed to prioritize and throw gpu data around and increase performance. It not only doesn't handle that gpu and could data as efficiently as a better board like an x99 or even a z97, but it also doesn't allow overclocking and lacks many features in the bios to make your life easier.
They were poorly made decisions based on ignorance. But all of them should be returnable. Spend the extra what, 80$ total to upgrade it all. You have a 2tb hard drive but skimp out on essentials. Even pirating goes won't be that taxing and you obviously can't afford to buy a library of games. Get a 1tb Wd black, an i5 K series and a mother kard with overclocking capabilities so everything you do is efficient, smooth and stable. There's no reason not to.

I mainly play LoL, but every season i play path of exile (you cannot have enough gpu power) and i already have a 250gb ssd that i will use to put games on, the hdd is just for my music transfer.
I am just worried because what you said seemed to imply that h170 cannot properly utilize 980 ti, which i am entirely unsure of and there are no benchmarks of this kind i can find.

The 980ti will work on an h170 but that doesn't mean you'll get top of the performance you can. More cpu and more time will be involved in processing over a higher end motherboard.
But you went absolutely overkill. Two low end video games that a 950 would more than suffice. Even a 960 or 970 would be comfy for the additional pirate here and there to play newer story games when you're bored.

MSI H170 Gaming M3 I like this mobo over that one for the usb 3.1. If you want to run at high frame rates an i7 would have been better. High frame rates are much more cpu intensive then higher resolutions. Case looks like a meme case, should've got a h440. Seasonic gold is a marketing gimmick. Should have gotten faster ram for the same price, could have dropped to 8gb too.

Remember that poorly optimized calculations and people are something that the Cpu handles. Statistics, damage, buffs, heals, armour, etc... Are all cpu tasks. So are connections, player handling and shit. Physics, animation and texture changes are what the gpu handles. If anything a 950 or 960 and no over clocked i5 will still be overkill. Aren't the new i5's hyperthreadedtoo?
