* LG for still offering removable batteries and SD card slots
* Oneplus if you want decent phones, but don't care if you get warranty support
* Firefox fx0 for $60, it's the ultimate poorfag phone.

Alright so I was given a Samsung A5 SM-A500w to be exact but the phone is locked to Rogers. Seeing as this model is un-rootable is there any other way besides paying some sketchy indian for a code to unlock this phone ? Chimera is not worth 60 pounds for just one use

Are the LG G4/V10 the only smartphones made in 2015 that have a replaceable battery and sd card slot?

the moto phones, but still

>removable battery
of course there are other phones, but this meme needs to die. batteries are still usually serviceable unless the phone is totally sealed. a charging pack is superior to having two batteries.

>SD card slot
as we discussed last thread, internal storage >>>>>> sd card slot
i mean, if you don't have at least 32GBs, you need an sd card slot
but otherwise internal storage is superior in every way.
the ideal smartphone would have 64-128GBs of internal storage
>>
Anyone here bothered by the G4's screen curve?
>>
>>51644810
>as we discussed last thread, internal storage >>>>>> sd card slot
I'm pretty sure I'd like an extra 64gb of illegal drawn children photos on my phone in an sd card that i could chew and swallow when canadian cops try to befriend me.
>>
Hows the LG G4

Will I regret it?

Im a bit weary about the back volume buttons lol
>>
>>51645709
I'm more bothered about the rear facing speakers. I think the volume buttons are nice since they won't get in the way. I would probably need time to adjust because I use the volume buttons to zoom in/out the camera.

I'm also planning to get it before or after Christmas

Z3 additionally offers much better battery life, pretty clean and fast software, good support and fast updates.

I just want a nice Lumia device (eyeing the 640) but with a service plan that can match what I'm currently paying.

Oh also forgot to ask—build quality. Is it that bad on 6p? I've heard people say that the plastic bar at the bottom of the back of the phone isn't always flush with the metal body which would probably seriously piss me off after a while. Also shouldn't Moto get better battery life once it gets Marshmallow in a couple of weeks?
>>
>>51653015
Yeah i mean something like it's confirmed it will be updated or it has a custom rom, sorry
>>
>>51653027
I think there were certainly build quality issues on the first few out, but what fucking device doesn't have that? That's typical

There's literally nothing wrong with Chinese phones.

Also, The One+ phones are built in China.

Germany. There shouldn't be a problem with bands i think. I heard Motorola has been bought by Lenovo which also has bad support.

However, both One+ and Moto have bad reputations with customer service now.

Sprint can't even keep coverage up at their HQ. Sprint coverage in their home town of Kansas City is dogshit. You will never convince anyone that sprint has decent coverage.

I'm looking for a Nexus 5 2013 replacement.

I'm struggling between a Moto X Play and a Zenfone 2.

I don't need insane specs improvements compared to the N5 2013, but nothing below that bar. So smooth flawless android with not too much bloatware, and WAY better speakers, battery and camera than the N5.

Dual Sim is a plus.

What would you guy suggest? I'm an Eurofag, so the N5x is out of the question. Too expensive.
>>
>>51653487
Not really. You can check yourself at amazon.de or any other country's amazon. I was considering the 5X but it's just meh at that price point. Really not worth it.
>>
>>51653528
Just keep in mind the X Play has no gyroscope. If you don't use it it should be fine although at that price you could probably find the OnePlus One which has better specs. Shitty custom support? Motorola has that too, now.
>>
>>51653528
Moto X Play has no gyro, lower specs, and poor customer support.

Zenfone 2 has dogshit battery life and a poor quality camera

Have you checked out the Sony Experia phones? Why did you not tell us what country you are in?

>>51653536
Yeah, it's not worth it in the US at our nice prices, especially considering the lag problems because of the software encryption.

>>51653561

Is the gyro that important in a phone?

Also I'm from Italy. Are the Sony Xperia good?
>>
>>51653580
Sony Xperia are good, but they can be really pricy in certain countries. Gyro is important for gaming on even basic games, and anything that uses the phones orientation for features. Using dual accelerometers just isn't the same.

>>51653572
I've heard it's battery was meh because of using an Intel atom processor.
>>

Where are you buying your phone?

In general I think the great phones of the year were the Nexus 6P, the Note 5, Sony Xperia Z5, Moto X Pure/Style, One+ 2, LG G4, and Lg G10.
>>
>>51653785
Like what, OPO? Is that still worth to buy? It has more features than the X even if it's older
>>
>>51653807
yeah the 1+1 is better than the 1+x IMHO
>>
>>51653807
OPO user, it's an amazing phone. Battery life stronk, good performance, great everything. My brother has the S6 and the OPO is honestly better.

Other brands are good too. Oppo, Huawei, and Xiaomi make some of the best phones around.
>>
>>51653859
What about the touchscreen? Is it working fine?
>>
>>51653836
Agreed.

You don't get an SD card slot with the OPO, but I'd rather have 64GBs internal than an SD card slot anyways.
>>
>>51653859
>My brother has the S6 and the OPO is honestly better.

Lies
>>
>>51653892
100%
the OPO manufacturing is fine, that was just a zenfone shill meme. customer support is lacking, that's the real problem.

but i've never had an issue with my OPO, everything is great
>>
>>51653898
Raw performance goes to the S6 hands down, but the thing overheats and shuts off randomly. The battery life is shit. Maybe he just got a bad apple.
>>
>>51653921
Nice. I'd rather buy this than the X (even if i like this one aesthetically more) because it has more features (ac wifi, nfc, that 64gb storage that i won't even fullfil) and a bigger display doesn't hurt.
What else can i ask.. isn't the magnesium frame around the phone going to rust?
>>
>>51653935
That doesn't sound right, he needs to take it back asap for a new one. Bad battery life? The S6 isn't the best, but those aren't known for overheating and shutting off randomly.

>>51653944
magnesium rusts pretty easily, but it turns a dark grey color not red like iron
>>
If only Samsung made decent budget phones with software updates and with good design. Why do they keep doing those ugly rounded corners??
>>
>>51653957
>magnesium rusts pretty easily, but it turns a dark grey color not red like iron
I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing?
*paranoid*
>>
>>51653960
They got sued over corners and lost, seriously.

They do make decent budget phones, but they aren't sold in so many places.

All Android companies need to get better about updates, but Samsung for the last 3-4 years has done well. My S4 got lollipop. It shipped with Jellybean.
>>
>>51653944
>magnesium frame around the phone
huh?
Are you talking about the silver around the screen? That's plastic. It's kind of malleable, so if you drop your phone it'll show nicks, but it doesn't look bad after a year of use and a few dozen drops for me.
>>
>>51653970
It's an alloy right? It's not pure magnesium? I wouldn't worry about it.
>>
>>51653978
Yea that's for their flagships but the other phletora of phones is left to die on its own. Sure there are many roms which could fix it but this should come from the company itself.
>>
>>51653986
Just read that it's an alloy and that many other devices out there use it. I don't need to care about this anyway as long as the frame stays where it needs to stay
>>
>>51653991
yeah true they have a bad time updating their budget phones.

I really wish they'd tailor shit down to far less models. Samsung could easily beat out every phone company on the planet if they did four things:

1. Less phone models. Budget, mid tier ( have parts commonality with the budget phones), flagship (with two sizes), and business class (Note series). A company that size could handle that.

2. Make updates consistent. Two years min on non flagships, three years on flagships.

3. Continue to scale back touchwiz and improve performance.

4. Tweak the hardware. Re-introduce SD cards, get rid of glass back phones - metal or plastic only. Larger batteries.
>>
>>51654034
This. I don't get companies sometimes, they can make lots of money but still keep doing the same mistakes instead of getting rid of them.
>>
I own a Galaxy S4 and I absolutely love it, but since the Lollipop update, the battery life was almost halved, even though I did the usual backup and reset. Note that I use an aftermarket battery from Zerolemon (3000 mAh instead of the 2600 standard Samsung).
I'm planning to switch to another phone with bigger durability but similar characteristics. Given the fact that I don't like LG's, I looked around and two smartphones catched my attention: Nexus 6P and Samsung Galaxy S6 Active.
I like the latter the most, but I'm a Mario Anonetti and apparently is only sold in America from AT&T. Anyone knows about any rumour involving a debut in Europe?

And what about Nexus 6P? Pros and cons? Battery life?
>>
>>51654110
the Sexus 6P has great battery life, that will be my next phone unless I can make my S4 last until the Sexus 6P V2

Never count on US exclusive devices going overseas.
>>
>>51653935
>but the thing overheats and shuts off randomly
That's just not true, Exynos 7420 is the least power hungry and the least hot running SoC of th year thanks to it being on a 14nm process.

All the Snapdragon chips right now are 28nm or 20nm, they all run hotter than Exynos 7420.

If an S6 is overheating EVER it has hardware issues. Even after a 2 hour movie in VR the S6 doesn't shutdown due to overheating, and that's 2 hours straight of VR playback which requires a lot of CPU/GPU power.

The phone is really well constructed. No qualms with that at all.

Here are some things to know though
>CyanogenOS and 1+ split up, but Cyanogen still releases OTA updates for the OPO
>however, it will come shipped with 4.4.4 kitkat

Can't know for sure, but today it runs well. I think it'll still be great for years because with 3GBs of RAM and the 801, it should be, but nobody can truly know.

If you're going by benchmarks, it still performs well today. I'll post benchmarks in a minute.
>>
>>51654489
Honestly the 801 and 805 are just as good in most ways and better in others than the 808 certainly and even the 810.

There's nothing wrong with an 801 + 3 GB RAM.

It is CyanogenOS

The others are like a beta, higher potential for bugs but more features and newer

For $350 that's a great price for 4GB RAM, Snapdragon 810, and 64GB internal storage.

No mSD card, but that's a minor flaw.

My only concern would be ZTE updating it to 6.0
>>
>>51655973
How is it? Looked like a babby OPO from the pictures and description.

You need to root to run adblocker, it needs root permissions.
>>
>>51656451
Looks and feels nice. Build quality is solid. OS is snappy, screen is pretty good. Camera takes decent pics. I'm pleased with it.
It has some minor flaws, such as a recessed microUSB port that not all cables will fit in. And no diffuse layer over the RGB notification led so it's bright as fuck and you can see the individual colors. There's also no NFC, 5GHz wifi or USB OTG, but for the price (got it for €150) I can definitely live with that.
Feels a bit too big though, coming from a 3.8" phone. But that's the current market I guess.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't just root it and install CM so I can get nightlies. Or I could just root the COS that's already on it (if possible) for the ad blocker.

>>
>>51657553
Lollipop went from 4.4.4 to 5.0
>Completely reworked design style
>New battery saver mode
>More battery information like time until finished charging and time until depletion
>New notifications system

Marshmallow went from 5.1.1 to 6.0
>Can tap on words to search for them (already available in Chrome which is where this will be used the most anyway)
>Changed shitty animations that should've been implemented with Lollipop
>Added app permissions
>Added new doze battery saver
>Added native finger scanner support (other phones already could do this anyway)

Maybe they didn't hype it up, but the numbering scheme makes no sense. Seems to me they tried pushing it as a major update when it's much smaller than lollipop.

You don't know much about the Nexus line.

People buy Nexus phones to avoid carrier, and OEM bloat. They also buy them because they are affordable unlocked, and the S7 certainly won't be a good price initially.

He finally added a section on Sony except for all the wrong reasons...
Performance is kind of subjective, the performance is average in terms of specs but the ux is comparable to a moto or nexus. Sony phones arent bad value in terms of mid range and up but in the low end spectrum alot of chinkphones phones do better.

I would say that Xperias have great design aesthetics, z series and some others are water resistant, and the ui skin is mostly like aosp. They have good dev support as well.
