which zip has a password?
It's either zip without a pw or a rar with a pw
>>
>>51639945
.zip archive that is password protected

Can you read?
>>
>>51639976
yes I can read it. It's a super niche file. Why don't you download a super niche app like the unarchiver?
>>
>>51639785
Today was my co-worker's first day on the job. He brought his generic laptop with him.

How the fuck can they ship an OS that can't even open a .dmg with a password? How is that good?
>>
>>51640015
>It's a super niche file.

Haha, no it's not.

Any Linux distro comes with the tools to open archives with passwords. Windows does too. OS X Just sits there and stares at it like a retarded child.
>>
>>51640079
.dmg is a super niche file
>>
>>51640102
Something that's used to distribute apps for Apple computers… Apple being like the richest company in the world…
Yeah I'm sure it's super niche.
>>
>>51639785
I am pretty sure OP might be the retard.
>>
>>51640119
What sort of fucktard would you be to try and install software packaged for OSX on some other OS? It's not going to work, why include software to extract something that's not going to work?
>>
>>51640119
Lol rich and niche are not mutually exclusive
>>
>>51640086
Also why are you so surprised you need software to open a certain file type? Sure, it's convenient if it works out of the box but who the fuck cares really?
I mean Internet Explorer comes bundled yet people look for alternative browsers. Same goes for WinRAR/7-Zip to open zip files.

And OS X has been able to mount ISO/DMG natively for like a decade, something Windows JUST got like a year ago.
>>
>>51640015
> password protected zip
> super niche

My dear child...
>>
>>51640146
You're right… But judging by the butthurt from all the MacFags people keep seeing, it's not like Apple computers are rare these days.
And they can open many types of files by default that Windows or Linux can't.
>>
>>51640158
.zip is like the de facto standard, and OSX just can't handle it without extra bloat.
>>
>>51640158

Why the fuck do I want to go around looking for software to perform every single task? If I was into building an OS, I'd install LFS or something.

I'd rather leave the basic tasks to the in-built tools so I can actually get stuff done.
>>
>>51640182
>And they can open many types of files by default that Windows or Linux can't.

Such as? (Don't say dmg)
>>
What the fuck are you morons talking about?

This is Archive Utility, the default OS X app for expanding zip files, asking for a password.
>>
>>51639785
>using default archive extraction tool
for fuck sakes why?
>>
>>51639785
>How the fuck can they ship an OS that can't even open a .zip with a password

Windows is the same as of Vista (2006).
>>
>>51640241
rekt
>>
>>51640238
fight me faggot
>>
>>51640255
If it works, why not?
>>
>>51640274
Very mature.
>>
>>51640241
I shit you not. Saw it wit me own two eyes today.

> click to open .zip
> nothing happen

Did he remove or disable this default tool built into the os? What the fuck. I don't know what's what now.
>>
>>51640224
>Why the fuck do I want to go around looking for software to perform every single task?
Because they are usually superior? Basically everyone I know installs third-party programs for everything.

No one I know uses Internet Explorer for example, but an alternative browser.
Everyone also uses WinRAR or whatever archiving program they have to open ZIP files as well, even if they can be opened by default.
Same goes for e-mail, media player etc. People get better options.
>>
>>51640285
In this case, it doesn't work.

In Windows' case, it's tends to add extra clicks compared to other extraction tools which can extract in 1-2 clicks.

Nigger you're either trolling or retarded. Possibly both.
It literally just takes a double-click and it will prompt you to enter the password. No fuckery needed.
If you can't manage to do that, you should probably just kill yourself.
>>
>>51639785

Stop. Its a small problem. All other os's have problems too ok ? Now just fucking stop.
>>
>>51639785

>>
>>51640366
>Its a small problem
Except it's no problem at all. OS X opens zip files just fine. Password-protected or not.
>>
>>51640361
It didn't work. Not my laptop either. Sorry Mac users fuck their shit up and make the os look bad to others
>>
>>51640374
Do you suggest sending company info around in plain text? For real?
>>
>>51640390
Don't blame your own incompetence on the software. That's just embarrassing.
>>
>>51640315
I don't think you can, Archive Utility is just a gui for cli 'zip' and is itself in Core Services. He'd have to use cli to get rid of it in the first place, I think you'd have to use sudo.

But yeah it's not an OS X capability problem, it's something else.
>>
Cool story bro.

You definitely got everyone fooled with that outdated piece of information, but OSX has been able to create and open password protected .zip files out-of-the-box for years.

But yeah, /g/ is fucking retarded and will go with any Apple hate no matter how false it is so it's no wonder people fell for this and will probably continue repeating these meme for the next few months.

You guys are using Windows Vista or what?

Nearly every Linux distro has included basic functionality in-built that covers the use cases of 90% of the user base.
Including proper archive extraction tools that support just as many archive types as your spyware winrar.
>>
>>51640440
>Not my incompetence since it wasn't my device.

So if I hijack a car even though I don't have a license and then drive it off a bridge it's not my fault because the car wasn't mine?
Great fucking logic you retarded dipshit.

What Linux distros have doesn't matter, their marketshare a shit.

Even Windows 7 has a shitty zip extractor.

It's not your competence because you never even tried it... You just made up a story to set up another one of those "Apple Hate General" threads that people keep posting all the time.

Sadly, this time you failed because people noticed that what you were saying wasn't true.
>>
>>51640440
>Not my incompetence

So you didn't think that maybe, just maybe, an unsupported format might generate a dialogue? You just assumed "nothing happening" is the intended behaviour? No error message or anything else?

Common sense problem solving is "tech support" now? Really?

If the light bulb in your office doesn't work, do you change it or do you go jerk off while you wait for maintenance to come help babby out?

Christ, if you work in anything remotely IT related, you MUST surely know OS X has Terminal, and you don't even think to say "hey dude try zip command line"

Nobody is this stupid, must be bait

the version of unzip in OS X has been the same since 2005. seriously.

So pick one of the following:

* It wasn't a Macbook, it was an iBook froom 2003 or some shit
* Your zip file was fucked up such that no password was seen
* You're telling lies (most likely, since you're now adding in the detail that he used the CLI after all)

this is literally a problem domain for pgp anyway.
I don't even know what a "password protected" zip even uses or why you'd use it anyhow.

for all I know. maybe op gave him some proprietary implementation that OS X can't handle as well.
