vertical GPU mounting

I want my GPU to be mounted like in pic related. However, barely any case supports it, and those who do are ugly or expensive.
I have a PCIe riser cable and a dremel. Can I just cut a new ghetto PCIe expansion slot in my case, screw in some angle things, drill holes in that to screw my GPU in, have the "fork" part on the bottom of the GPU stand on a screw and attach the GPU with the riser cable?
I think there is enough place for the hole (I will get my new case tomorrow) but I am not sure if my GPU output bracket (how do you call that thing) will bend from the weight of the card. Right now I use a small single fan gtx460, which should probably work but if I upgrade, will I destroy my card? I am sure you can calculate that somehow, if you are good at physics. I will try to do a paint drawing for clarification.
