Still occurs on all 390 series.
Tried with MSI 390, MSI 390X, Sapphire 390 Nitro, XFX 390 DDB in Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 with clean installs as well as using DDU/uninstalling Crimson entirely in safemode before updating Crimson in the rigs that were actively in use.

"After reading this I decided to check the temps and fan and yep, fan locked to 20% and the card is pretty much fried. Cant keep my PC on for longer than 3 mins now before a crash. Its also fried my wireless card from the residual heat as they're right next to each other, and most likely took the motherboard along with it as I'm still getting issues after removing the card.
Thanks AMD, one driver update and you've killed almost every component in my PC. Doesn't even matter if my card is still covered by warranty, the rest of my PC isn't so I've got nothing left to plug my card into :("

Yes, it throttles the GPU (underclocks it) if temperatures get too high to keep it from getting too hot. If it still gets too hot and reaches a certain limit the card will simply shut itself off.

Since I don't see the graphics card general up, I thought I might ask here.
I recently ordered a Sappihre R9 380 4gb. The site I bought it from seemingly had two entries for the card, one being slightly cheaper, with no discernible differences. Stroking my inner jew, I went for the cheaper option.
Ever since, I've been nervous. Is there some weird reissue, or older model, or whatever? I can't find anything through googling, but they do have different... What's it called? ID numbers?

Certain devices are DESIGNED to do this, apple shit comes to mind and most phones too.
In the real world, modern CPUs and GPUs are generally set to throttle at 90-95 degrees celcius. The CPU/GPU will -NOT- die from hitting that, it will simply reduce the lifespan. Older nvidia cards and reference R9 290s would frequently hit 90 degrees under stock conditions and they're still running fine.
All the reports you're hearing of damaged cards or other components is complete and utter bullshit.
If the faggot whose "wireless card and motherboard died" from the GPU hitting <100c, the result would've happened with many other cards, including quadro/firepro

Even assuming for a moment the gpu core did hit 100c, that is a tiny area and will not be enough to kill a motherboard as thermodynamics don't allow it (even before factoring airflow).
