Repostan' my review of the Tisell Sub so the guy who asked for it will actually see it.

But to summarize:

The Good:
>Wears way smaller than other Sub homages - pretty close to the real deal.
>Ceramic bezel is nicely done - All the numbers are uniformly engraved, bezel is a uniform colour, lume pip is well placed.
Ceramic is a personal preference, but I do see it as being a higher accomplishment than just plain aluminium bezels.
>Dial has nice sunburst effect.
>Dial printing is easily on par with the OM, can't see any flaws.
>Cyclops is at least 2* magnification
>Solid end links.
This surprised me, as I had heard the end links were hollow, but they may have updated it when they made the model international.
>Screw bars on the bracelet.
Screw bars are a personal preference; I know some people prefer spring bars in the links to keep the bracelet "clean", but I prefer screw bars for ease of adjustment.
>All links pressure fit together, so the bracelet does feel very snug.
>Nicely designed milled clasp.
I have to say I'm very impressed with a milled clasp for this price, it's similar visually to the Rolex clasp, but the design is a bit different.
The clasp has a glidelock style adjustment, although a fair bit cruder (clunks between notches, rather than gliding over the top).
>Mioyta 9015
We all know it: It hacks, it handwinds without tearing itself to shreds, it's a genuine movement and it's borderline high beat.

The Bad
>Stock bracelet may not fit people with very large/fat Canadian-esque wrists.
I have a 7.5" wrist and I could only remove two links (each about 10mm long) - so not much room for huge wrists.
>For such a small diver (compared to watches nowadays at least) it's quite tall; it's about 13mm tall.
>The clasp lock, when open, can scuff the brushed finish on the bracelet.
>Sapphire is AR coated, but not domed.

Overall, I think it's the nicest sub homage in the $200 bracket.

Pic not mine, obviously.

Going to add:

The Bad:

At least it's not that garbage 90 click system that some tacticool microbrand had.

Again, how often are is the minute hand exactly on a marker when you set the bezel? I'm at most +-20 seconds, on a 60 click it's +-30 seconds, and 120 clicks gets you +-15. If I wanted to time shit that precisely I'd use a fucking chronograph. It just doesn't matter in day to day use, would I rather have 120 clicks? Yeah, but I wouldn't want to step down to 60. I just don't understand why you guys are so worked up over such an inconsequential detail, the watch has plenty of much larger issues but I still like it and think it's a good value.

You set the bezel for minutes, to know how much air is left in your dive tank.

60 clicks is accurate to every minute.
1, 2 ,3, etc.

120 clicks is accurate to every 30 seconds, and thus, every minute.
1, 2, 3, etc.

90 clicks is accurate to every 45 seconds, and thus, every third minute.
3, 6, 9, etc.

http://www.woundforlife.com/2015/07/20/lessons-in-wristory-whats-a-wakmann/
At the time it was made, all Wakmann was doing was the final stage of assembly of Breitling-supplied watches. It wasn't until the late 70's that they began production of their own watches, which were still built around Valjoux movements. They made a few interesting models with the Valjoux Cal. 88 movement, which had all of the complications of the 730 + moonphase.

You set the index to line up with the current position of the minute hand, not with the minute markers.

Literally more clicks means being able to be more accurate.
>>
>>51617357
Do you even know how to trigger an autist?

But yes, it's pretty fucking simple.

>Timing
Rotate bezel to minute hand to time your dive.

>Air
Rotate bezel to minute hand.
Say you have twenty minutes of air.
60 - 20 = rotate 40 minutes counter clockwise.

>Decompression
Rotate bezel to time calculated to prevent decompression sickness.
Hence the fine marks between 0 and 15 min.
>>
>>51617495
>You set the index to line up with the current position of the minute hand, not with the minute markers.
Depends on what you want to do m80.

A diving bezel fulfils multiple functions.

More accurate for one application, less for the other two.
120>60>90
>>
>>51617568
I'm not following you here.
>>
>>51617592
Air and decompression timings are based off calculations.

You don't try to set it for exactly 20 minutes from now (ie 08:21:45).
You calculate that it is approximately 08:02 and that you need 20 minutes.
With a 120 or 60 click bezel, setting to 08:22 is much easier and accurate.
>>
>>51617568
>More accurate for one application, less for the other two.
Suddenly a diving bezel has exactly three applications.

But in seriousness, a diving bezel, when compared to a pilot's bezel is meant to function as a count-up timer from the current minute position that can not, due to error, appear like less time has passed than what has truly transpired.

And more clicks simple makes that more accurate.
>>
>>51617645
>But in seriousness, a diving bezel, when compared to a pilot's bezel is meant to function as a count-up timer from the current minute position that can not, due to error, appear like less time has passed than what has truly transpired.
Exactly why it works great for air remaining, you can only lower the time remaining, not increase.

It's a bit less handy for decompression, but decompression goes hand in hand with timing your dive.
Back in the day, you didn't have a dive computer, you used your watch bezel.
>>
>>51617643
...Or you just set the bezel to where the minute hand is and it tells you when 20 minutes have elapsed and once again, more clicks is more accurate.
>>
>>51617713
>decompression goes hand in hand with timing your dive
Actually you time your dive to avoid decompression.

>>51617803

If you set the bezel for a count down, you don't have to do this.

Unless you're diving professionally, rather than recreationally, how often do you need a count down to a specific time? None of my dives have been in a time table like that, we just needed to make sure that we wrapped up and surfaced within X minutes of dropping in (unless some other reason demanded it be ended sooner) but I could see it being needed on an oil rig or something (a corporate timetable) but at that point your main method of timing is being in communication with those out of the water, and if that line of communication gets cut I would assume you'd just call the dive there, and finish the job on another dive.

Casio is more driven by utility than muh horlogerie. Considering they already make sturdy solar watches, there's no reason why they'd do that.
You certainly won't be buying Casios for the beauty of the movement anyway, and sweeping seconds hands aside, there's no perceptible difference.

Sup, /watch/ been lurking for a while, got a few questions.

Seem like you guys ride GS dicks. And in the last thread someone was baiting all you nigs, but out of all that some one said,
>In what way is Rolex superior to GS
And I thought, in what way is GS superior to Rolex and anyother Swiss watch for that matter?

Not baiting, I genuinely would like to know.

Secondly, I got a friend who is all upity about his Omega Seamaster. In typical it's expensive and Swiss, but he knows shit about watches. Is it actually good?

Calling one several thousand dollar watch superior over another is kind of silly because at that point they're really pretty similar besides subjective differences which come down to taste. Some things GS is good at are use of some materials like diashield titanium like in the snowflake or their in-house spring alloys and lume, the unique spring drive movement which is unmatched by anyone else, and really excellent dial finishing which has been a Seiko strong suit for a long time. Rolex has their own cool materials like their unique stainless alloy and high tech ceramics, they make only traditional mechanical movements but they are very good at it, many of their designs are classic and iconic and very recognizable. A GS will draw very little attention and most people will have no idea what it is when they see it, most of their designs are very conservative and plain looking from afar, whereas Rolex is the most recognizable expensive watch brand on the planet, some people may like the attention and some may want something understated. GS also tends to be much cheaper than Rolex while arguably being just as good.
>>
>>51621288

Grand Seiko has:
- completely in-house watches from metal foundry to crystals to mainsprings.
- better quality and better finished mechanical movements than the vast majority of Swiss watch makers, and certainly vastly better than any Swiss watches available for a comparable price
- the spring drive, the single biggest leap forward in horology in decades.
- has clearly better case/dial/bracelet construction quality and finishing than any Swiss watches in even vaguely similar price ranges.
- ended mechanical accuracy competitions by utterly crushing the Swiss
- the Swiss have to rig every certification and competition to keep Seiko from utterly eating their lunch

Seiko and Rolex are both significant manufacturers making high quality watches. They both can keep such a high quality of product because they have control over the components that goes into the watches, including difficult to manufacture components like mainsprings. Rolex is involved heavily with a lot of marketing, and has gotten in trouble with price fixing and other anti-competitive practices in the USA and EU, so maybe they've ended up with a slightly inflated price for a new model, (while we might say Seiko trends towards a reasonable price) and the world of vintage Rolex is absolutely insane. Many other brands have unique buys for vintage models, most of the vintage Rolex market is so overvalued by people who seem to only know the word 'Rolex' it's crazy.

RIP chronometer competitions, too bad the mountain jews couldn't get over their butthurt.

But as great as GS is and as much as I like all my Seikos I really think the Seiko circlejerk here has gotten out of hand. High end Swiss watches are excellent too and claiming GS is vastly superior to everyone else is about as ridiculous as the people who come in here refusing to accept anything that isn't Swiss.

The Swiss watch industry literally has to rig all the competitions out of fear of being dominated by Seiko in a of them. That's basically an admission that Seiko/Credor us superior to the entire Swiss industry, horologically.

From what I'm understanding, I think vastly superior when comparing prices. A $3000 GS will CRUSH a $3000. But if you matchup two of their elites they are similar, with the GS slightly pulling a head. Other than the Seiko costing less.

>Concours International de Chronométrie
>This competition continues the tradition of competitions held between observatories from the 19th century to the second half of the 20th century. It leverages science, technology and culture to highlight the skills of watchmakers, artisans and industrialists in their quest for perfection, and aims to support chronometry in contemporary mechanical horology by enabling watchmakers to compare the performance levels obtained by their timepieces. Unlike the original competitions, however, these modern events aim to compare the performance and reliability of encased watches intended for market distribution.
> The pieces submitted must have been assembled, adjusted and set by the participant company. The constituent parts of the movement must have been made in a country on the European continent.
>>
>>51622048
Well a spring drive minute repeater is pretty goddamn impressive. And it costs like $350,000. It's on an entirely different level from stuff like GS and Rolex. There are Credors that overlap in price with GS and in that case then yes it's mostly down to what you prefer. Credor also has more ladies models and GS is mostly for men.

I own the Fenix II.

I bought it thinking that it would be useful outdoors but it ended up being a hindrance.

The battery life makes it useless for anything that takes more than a couple of hours.

I ended up just using a regular quartz and a compass for land nav.

I would recommend you get a real outdoor handheld GPS unit and a dependable field watch.

Battery reserve for gps watches just isn't there yet.

Close enough, especially on leather. If you want to be super pedantic then a very dressy watch would probably have thinner lugs, probably no lume, and be a bit smaller. The SARB is a little more sporty than dressy because of the bracelet and oyster style case and slightly larger size.
