What's wrong with their stats? They but a metric shit ton of drives, so it can't be their sample size.

Run consumer drives in server environments, use drives taken out of external enclosures.

Maybe Seagate drives are/were less tolerant to vibration than other brands, but that shit doesn't matter if you use the products like they're supposed to.

>being this much of a faggot and idiot
>>
>>51615253
This article is bullshit. The three actual reasons they give were "backblaze abused deals to get their drives", "early storage pods had problems with vibration", and "the drives were used for a higher workload than normal"

The first point has absolutely nothing to do with the integrity of the data. Backblaze released stats per-pod and showed that the failure rates had almost exactly the same proportions in pods with better vibration dampening, so the second point is worthless too. The third point is stupid unless you're so deluded that you think high-workload failure rates somehow won't correlate at all with normal-workload failure rates. If one kind of drive fails 10 times as often as another at high workload, it's not going to magically drop to 1:1 when you bring it down to normal workload.

And the fact that these three points were stretched into 5 pages for advertising purposes makes me think even more that this article was just made for clicks, not for accuracy.

I don't know why you idiots even care about this garbage between these two shitty seagate/wd brands when EVERY SINGLE study reveals that toshiba/hitachi/hgst are much more reliable.

I've always pointed it out on any build thread but idiots still keep recomending western digital drives because some fucktard at reddit told them to buy one, so they carry the message forward.

I'm using two 2TB WD Red drives in my PC, both of which are working fine.

However, I had two WD Black drives fail within a week of getting them...
>>
>>51614144
Well the graph refers to failure rate in % so wouldn't change a thing.
>>
>>51616913

It is depressing indeed because I just can't understand what makes people talk about things they don't know about while making it seem they are dead sure on what they're saying, when in reality they are just being parrots. People have such a loud mouth over things they know nothing about. It feels like saying "I don't know" is almost impossible nowadays.
>>
>>51617112
I guess this behaviour is exacerbated by the anonymity

>>51617145

Yeah, that's probably the thing. But what makes me mad as all fuck is that I see people that are like trying really hard to save whatever penny they might have and then asshole fuckwad comes in and makes them waste money. It's specially maddening because I have already been led into making poor purchase choices and had to learn the hard way that 90% of what you see online is sheer unadultered bullshit.

I've yet to be dissatisfied with Western Digital Drives.

Unfortunately I have a stack of Seagates that say otherwise.

I got tired of all the shilling when I was collecting parts for a new build. I opened up my 10 year old daily driver/ toaster, and found an Hitachi 360gb. Working without fault for 10 years or so. Now I have a new 2tb enterprise HGST, couldn't be happier.

Hitachi/HGST and WD black are too overpriced here in Brazil.

I think that, since they now own HGST, they're shifting the more reliable drives to that brand, and making the WD consumer brand cheaper, but also less reliable.

WDC is intentionally lowering their quality to make sure people pay premium to buy the expensive HGST drives.

Drop in WDC quality coincides with WDC completing acquisition of HGST and stopping production of low-end HGST products.

Untrue, everybody on /g/ and leddit uses WD/Seagate.

So true.

8% of WD drives fail != all WD drives fail
>>

>not designing a fault-tolerant system

Hard drive failures should be accepted as inevitable, but it shouldn't matter. Space is fucking cheap.

Your only excuses are a laptop that only can hold a single drive or a seriously low budget build.

In any desktop build, if a single failed drive means anything worse than "looks like I'll have to wait 15 minutes to decompress my backups, better grab some lunch, then I can get back to sorting my horse porn collection and order a replacement drive at my earliest convenience" then you're fucking up.
