If they get pre-Orders it shows that their is a strong interest. why start producinf if their is no interest. It's quite obvious they don't have the funds to start producing the boards else they would have started producing the boards and not be asking for money on kickstarter. This is also the way pi was made. Also in 6 months their will be something better that will ship in 6 months from 6 months. The main processor of the Pi and C.H.I.P. are fairly evenly matched, both operate at 1GHz with 512MB or RAM, but the C.H.I.P. uses the newer ARMv7 architecture (the Pi Zero uses an older ARMv6 architecture, which is confusingly also called ARM11).

The Raspberry Pi has hardware video decoding so just stick OpenELEC Kodi on there, it makes for a great little media box.

It can also be powered by the USB port on the back of your flat screen.

It's always going to be far shipping for someone.

If it shipped from America it would probably have even higher shipping costs for me.

I am pretty sure the Nokia 520 is cheaper than that and its a great phone.

This is actually the way the Pi was made

No, you are

People invest in credible ideas with sound business plans. If you all guys think they have those, feel free to buy one but please do not question my sanity when I choose not to
>>

No, the first batch of the Pi was financed through pre-ordering. I think they also received state funds.

>I just think waiting till june to ship and the expensive shipping is going to make them loose a lot of customers/piss people off.

I really don't understand how they can justify $6 for shipping. You can wrap it in some bubblewrap and put it in a white envelope and mail it out for a $1 and sending it out in a bubble-mailer with all of the accessories wouldn't cost more than $4-$5.

I sell shit on Amazon.

I am sure its great when babbie's first computer was a $2000 "Gaming rig" built with mommy and daddy's money.

Not every task requires a zillion cores and 64gb of RAM.

>Allwinner SOC
Who cares? Just between the computer and the HDMI adapter you're already paying as much as a Raspberry Pi B+ and have 1 USB port instead of 4. At that point you may as well drop a bit more and get the Raspberry Pi 2 that has a quad core processor and 1 GB of RAM in addition to having more USB ports.

>requires a special $5 composite adapter to hook it up to your TV
>he doesn't already own "headphone-to-composite video" cable

Get on my level. I have a box of cables and adapters in my closet that covers every obscure need that I could ever run into. Thank fucking god I decided to hold onto it. I originally used this for the video-out on my old portable DVD Player, it came with it. I never would've imagined that I would have a use for it ever again.
>>
>>51620638
you can also get a trrs-rca adapter for like a dollar
>>
>>51620638
That's not the correct cable. It sends sound out the same port so you're going to end up with screen distortion to the extent where it isn't usable (I had some fun messing with RCA spliters when I was younger). You need one of the cables that splits off into 3 RCA cables. I actually have one from a Gamecube portable display (currently using it to hook a laptop up to my TV).

Is it me, or does CHIP's ordering page have the absolute worst UI?

Clicking on Buy Now button gives no indication that it was added to the cart.

Only thing you have is the counter next to the cart going up when you click the Buy Now button.
>>
>>51624085
Corners were cut to bring us that price.

One corner was the web developer.
>>
>>51624085

What order number are you? I'm curious.

I posted earlier that my email order confirmation said I was "order #6600." I wonder what they're up to now.
>>
>>51624203
I was like 1200 lol
>>
>>51624352

I figured I'd miss out on the opening sale since I had went to bed soon after starting this thread. Since everybody had like 8 hours head start to buy them all up before me. I'm really surprised they're still accepting orders. It's so ambitious to take in 10,000+ orders in one day.
>>

>512mb of RAM

Haha, can that even run a modern OS?
>>
So, can any of these Raspberry Pi clones legitimately serve as a desktop replacement?
>>
>>51624491

I'm curious to know how well 512MB of DDR3 would serve a "Facebook machine." I know that 512MB is heavily restrictive on DDR(1) and older ram, but DDR3 is much more efficient. The CHIP does have onboard 4GB of solid-state memory, so that could help in its snappyness in such a usage as a day-to-day desktop alternative.

I'm sure it'd work fine if you dealt solely in one tab all of the time, but if you tried having 10+ tabs open things will probably get iffy

It is for server shenanigans and other embedded tasks, but if you want a HTPC stick with a Raspberry Pi.
>>
>>51629293
Why? The A13 has a better gpu and can decode more video formats than the Pi's VideoCore 4
>>
>>51629360
Allwinner sucks and their GPUs are buggy and they don't help out at all with fixes (just binary blobs that violate the GPL).

Allwinner chips are supported by almost nobody for hardware video decoding.

http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_hardware

This is a list of SOCs and their support for hardware video decoding in Kodi. You'll notice that Allwinner SOCs have zero support for hardware decoding of H264 and H265.
