I bought an EVGA 980 Ti FTW with a backplate for $620 before rebates. There was a cheap 980 Ti for $570. Regular 980s for $400 too. I was hoping they'd put the XB270HU, ROG Swift v1 or ROG Swift v2 up for sale. They didn't. 1440p 144hz on all of them. IPS w/ G-sync and low input delay for the first, high quality TN w/ G-sync for the second, IPS with freesync for the third and a slightly higher refresh rate. I think they all have some sort of motion blur reduction too.
Ended up getting a VG248QE for $200 because I realized it's not worth paying $800 (or $650 refurb) in order to get a monitor with such shit quality control that about half of the reviews give it one star with massive problems. The tech just isn't ready yet and the price isn't either. I think it's something we'll have to accept for now. Unfortunately 1080p IPS 144hz wasn't available either so I've just accepted my temporary fate.

DDR4 requires a DDR4 compatible motherboard, which requires a DDR4 compatible CPU. It's more expensive to get all that. The RAM itself is also more expensive.
RAM is cheap so if you have to spend $25-50 on the RAM you bought in 4-5 years it won't be a big deal at all. You'll probably want more or something by then anyway.

Yeah, it'd be within (€/$)100ish either way so in the end it's not a huge deal. The main concern is that upgrading to DDR4 won't make things actually go a whole lot faster than DDR3 so you could maybe put that into the CPU or GPU. It's really situational and debatable and it depends on what you want.

It seems like this Black Friday stuff is starting to fall apart.
It used to just be Black Friday. It was a day when things were sold. It made logical sense and that was that. Then we added Cyber Monday which was supposed to be the tech day but in reality it was just a questionable Black Friday 2 which may or may not be worth waiting for. So it started to bleed into Black Weekend and some people started opening early to make Black... whatever. And Newegg this year pretty much just made Black November.
Eventually I feel like this is all going to fall apart and become "that time in Autumn when you start thinking about buying stuff." And I guess that's okay, but if they keep doing this all it's going to do is encourage people not to buy anything until it's on sale. From what I've read, you won't notice much of anything from 144mhz unless you get really high frames. Like at least 90+. A lot of people think just buying a 144mhz monitor means your game is gonna look awesome but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The problem is Skylake isn't a good enough improvement over the previous generation to warrant people changing to DDR4 if they have working rigs. Add in the fact that DDR3 motherboards, ram and chips like the 4690k are cheaper there's little reason to pay more.

I also have a 250gb ssd and 1tb hdd, what i do is the following:
I install the games I'm currently playing on the SSD, for example, Fallout 4 and AC: Syndicate, and the rest on the HDD.
When I'm done with them, I move them back to the HDD, and the game I'll start playing to the SSD. Takes about 2 minutes to transfer the whole game and you can efficiently manage your space this way. Just don't download stuff into the SSD or install worthless crap there.
