I reached a stable overclock at ~4700mhz, but the temps I get reach ~63-65c and the cpu throttles to 1500mhz. NB temps are 70c~.

I'm using a corsair h105 with 4 fans in push/pull.

My mobo is the Crosshair IV formula, it only officially supports bulldozer (not pilediver) with a bios update but it seems to work with mine. Could this be the overheating issue?

What overlocks did you get with this and what temps on what boards?

I doubt it's overheating, at least on the cpu or NB. Those things are safe until you start pushing like 80 or so I believe. Could have to do with the bios stuff you're talking about.
>>
>>51603356
It throttles at 65c. I disabled all the stupid shit like cool n quiet etc, but it still throttles.
>>
>>51603370
That shouldn't be happening then, sounds like its indicative of something else? I'd just knock it down a few ghz until the problem goes away.
>>
>>51603297
5.2 Ghz under water.
Prime 95 risws temps to low 60's.
5ghz is most stable at 55°C under load but I just let it run at stock.
I run my benchmarks for around 5-10 min
>>
>>51603297
It doesn't matter how many GHz you run this piece of shit at, it's single threaded performance is still lower than a three generation old core i3 running at 2.5 GHz.
>>
>>51603315
I'd kinda have ti agree, even thought my laptop has an AMD A6 APU, it works fine. But the AMD CPU's are so fucking outdated. The only thing worth your money from AMD is their GPU's.

hi based retard

Wow 10fps difference after loading the cpu with two 980's and I doubt that engine is a single threaded engine like most applications are.
>>
>>51603466
What dosent use multiple threads/mutiple cores now?
intelshit?
>>
>>51603764
okay baby

OP here, I just left it at stock voltage and overclocked as much as possible (4.2 so far..)

Temps are like 54c at load, which is great. And 45c at idle which is odd.
>>
The latest AMD drivers fucks up the temps on overclocked GPU's. Wait until tomorrow when they release a hotfix or you'll burn yourself.
>>
>>51604966
Watch jays two cents video on overclocking, he uses that cpu and motherboard and there's some other complicated stuff that not many other guides tell you you should turn off

Also since I have coincidentally been overclocking my 8350 Crosshair 4 combo for the last few hours I seem to get what I think is vrm throttling, multiplier drops from 20 to 7 when running prime 95, is there anyway I can Disable this or stop it throttling?
>>
>>51605132
Pretty sure he'd use the Crosshair V, no?

Check the temps. From my attempts there's nothing you can do to stop it from throttling at ~65c
>>
>>51605233
>>51605132
you _could_ turn off thermal throttling if you dare.. but.. yeah
>>
>>51605022
Gut we're talking about CPUs here.
>>

>stable overclock
>cpu throttles
i'm not sure if you understand what 'stable overclock' means.

i bet its vrm. 83xx can handle >70C on daily basis.
>>
Just out of interest, what kind of things are you guys doing that require a cpu running at 4.7ghz?
Seems awfully high

Its ok, anon.

overclocking

it's not even about gaining additional computing power, it's just fun thing to do.
>>
>>51603297
I got 4.5 stable and no throttling dicking around on my budget 2011 Gigabyte board when I first upgraded but I haven't felt the need to keep it there or push it further. I have great ventilation and air flow tho.

I kid, I have also overclocked stuff just for shits and gigs
>>
I've got 4.62 on my 8350 with a cryorig r1 ultimate @ 1.331v. load temps with fan profile I have are mid to high 50s, mobo is crosshair v formula-z. vrm never goes above 40, when there was little airflow they would get up to 50ish. i doubt that's the issue, vrm should be able to go up to 80 no problem especially on a ROG board
I had success overclocking with my FSB and changing ram clocks etc to work, there are certain combos that seem to work better though, currently sitting at 264x17.5, helped me lower my voltage a significant ammount
>>
>>51608107
Stable as in no crashes.

Which one is the vrm temp?
Mainboard
SB
NB
>>
>>51608305
I doubt you can read VRM temps anywhere on the sensors. Just add some fan that would properly blow on vrm section radiator and check if there is some difference in how long can it work without throttling.
>>
>>51608351
It just consistently happens at 65c.
Are the VRMs the phases near where the cpu sits?
>>
>>51608382
yes.

like, exactly 65C? Never higher, never lower? Because if so, i may be wrong and it may be some dumb mobo failsafe.
>>
as long as bios is up to date you should be ok

if the vrms are too hot the board will throttle, they are located under the black heatsink behind rear I/O, little silver square things. can had a case fan blowing over them just to see if it still throttles
>>
>>51605022
It's user error causing this.

Why when I OC my cpu the PC has to switch itself on and off multiple times before booting fully?
>>
>>51608442
Maaybe as low as 63c. Not entirely sure and I don't feel like overclocking again to replicate.

Right now with standard voltage I got to 4.2 and it doesn't pass ~54c so it's alright.
>>
>>51608543
Where are the vrms?

>>51608557
Was the 20% fan thing really user error?
>>
>>51608704
Pink circle.
>>
>>51608672
are your clocks set when it boots?
sounds like the overclock boot failsafe my mobo has.
what mobo is it?

How does it feel knowing an overclocked fx 6300 will outperform an i5 4460 while costing much less. Do you enjoy getting keked by Intel?
>>
>>51606083
I get vrm throttling whenever the cpu reaches 80 not cpu throttling
