When messing around with Puppy Linux in a VM that was limited to one core from my quad core 2.2 Ghz AMD Phenom processor and only half of the cycles for that core (effectively 1.1 Ghz) and 1 GB of RAM, everything was actually surprisingly usable when using Firefox with all the addons I'd normally have and actually ran better than web browsing on my phone from my Droid Razr M, it didn't even reload pages every time I switched tabs. I had to limit the VM to 512 MB of RAM before it started performing similarly to my phone for regular browsing.

This, I'm already doing all of those in Linux.
Some people might have bad experiences with Linux because they have unsupported hardware and everything is buggy because of that. Others don't have any problems and they can't see why everyone aren't just switching to Linux since it's so nice. Hardware manufacturers should give Linux drivers to their products and everything would be great.
