I have put the icons' folder in ~/'icons and rungtk-update-icon-cache -f -t ~/.icons/*and I am now lost.
Obmenu only proposes "Themes" but I don't know what to use for the icons.
When I use my file manager (thunar), there are empty spaces where icons should be displayed.

I use transparent terminals so I choose a wallpaper that is consistently the same/almost the same color throughout, so it doesn't interfere with terminal text.

Don't worry, you don't need to know any of that. You should open an anime image to get yourself started, then you can move to choosing a wallpaper which should preferably (but not necessarily) contain anime, if it doesn't then it should at least make it japan themed. A good choice could be a picture of urban japan with Gaussian blur which was a popular choice in these threads a little while back.
