why should I use linux in my computer if I dont give a shit about le botnet? are there any possible reasons for me to care if windows does everything i want?
>>51591880
>are there any possible reasons for me to care if windows does everything i want?
By definition that's a 'no'.
>>51591880
Linux is more stable and more secure. If you're not really concerned with those things, it's probably not worth your time to switch.
>>51591880
If you have to ask then keep using whatever you're using now.
I have a Linux Mint partition on my Hackintosh but I almost never use it in lieu of OS X.

yes, there stuff you may want, but you dont know what you want it

I have never found this to be the case when running linux on a desktop PC.

Linux is stable as fuck unless you break something on your own.
My little sister has been using ubuntu on a laptop for years without any issues. And yes she had root access.

very well meme'd, friend.

On a fresh install of Ubuntu on my desktop it comes up with "a system error occurred" every fucking minute.
"Works on my machine" is not a valid argument

If you use proprietary graphics drivers any crashes are your own fault. If you use weird experimental kernels or compiler settings then any crashes are your own fault.
I use Debian stable, and they're serious about the "stable" part.
>>51593146
this, debian is stable as fuck.
Ubuntu is fucking shite
>>51593146
Bullshit, after some days of usage gnome broke without a reason, so I unistalled it and I'm continuing to use windows, because I don't have much time to fix subhuman shit
>>51591880
The one feature I love about Linux is the package manager.
So much easier than having to download software from individual websites and then deal with individual updates.
>>51593146
Even long time Linux users admit that stable Linux is a myth. Let's not go full retard here, friend.
>>51592792

In conclusion: Freetards couldn't come up with one solid argument why Linux is supposed to be better besides lies (Linux is more stable) and more lies (HURR I GOT 10 BLUESCREENS AND A BITCOIN MINER FROM OFFICIAL DRIVERS).
Anyway, another century of Windows for me.
>>51593295
Been browsing /g/ for 2 years and that's the most useful summary of Linux I've cone across
>>51593518
That would be the Windows experience if people didn't grow up learning it.
>>51591880
People have bitched and griped about the MS Monitoring / Botnet stuff.
But after hardening my Desktop (as much as possible) I've not noted any irregular network connections.
Shill machine is shilling.
>>51593650
It's not really a Linux users' responsibility to convince you to switch. If you want to stay where you are, just do that.
>>51593681
>I've not noted any irregular network connections.
>irregular
Yeah because the various Windows connections to botnet central are business as usual.
>>51593650
Sorry we're not indians getting paid for shilling an operating system that's free to use.
>>51591880
If Windows does everything you want then why would you use anything else, it's retarded.
You could use a VM to see for yourself if you like it or not, weight the pros and cons and form an opinion for yourself instead of asking NEETS in a mongolian image board about it like a beta.

It's not like you can select between 28 different file formats by default.
Disregarding Win 10 since it's shit.
Is 8.1 usable or is it basically just a Win 10 tier botnet?
i use linux cause for me everything just works.

>>51594347
You really think that does anything?
>>51593886
Has botnet problem been solved yet?
I currently have 8.1 installed
>>51594381
It can't really be solved. Not unless they go full open source. Sure you might be able to restrict a thing or two but it's still heavily ingrained in the system.
If it being a botnet worries you don't even bother. Just not worth it.
>>51594336
i am to stupid to use windows.
it feels so slow and clumsy to me.
>>51594421
Really. The only thing worth using Windows for I feel is the software support.
If it wasn't for that I would switch to Linux full-time.
Once I've started using Pacman+Yaourt everything else just feels horrible.
>>51591880
>windows does everything i want
you want to send your data to microsoft?
>>51594379
I think we're talking about different bits. Defender and the stock themes were more important removals for me.
>>51594520
>calls other people baby duck
>changes everything about the OS he's advocating
Just because Microsoft shits out a new OS with a bigger number doesn't mean you have to move to it.
>>51593440
Wow, that was hard
>>51594706
All the white hurts my eyes, my point was that just because there's parts of the OS you don't like doesn't mean you have no options.
>>51591880
I don't care about the botnet. I use Chromium on Linux, signed into my Google account, which links with Chrome on my Android phone. I use Google Docs/Sheets/Slides for my office work. I also use Steam on Linux.
I just like Linux. I'm not a programmer, I'm a fan. It's a cool operating system and it's easy to use. I don't really like Microsoft as a company - not because of the botnet, just brand loyalty.
Linux Mint is incredibly easy to install btw. It's a comfy OS that does everything I need and looks great.
>>51595066

>>51595125
gnome-tweak-tool
>>51595121
Agree to a point. I would drop windows in a heartbeat if I didn't still game, have a kid at the age he's starting to to game and also have two AMD GPUs. It really is more than capable as a home computer OS otherwise.
>>51595066
>gnome 3
>>51595154
Oh cool. Must be nice to be able to customize without relying on 3rd party apps and hacks.
>>51595170
Ah, yeah. Most of my gaming is retro and indie stuff, which I use emulators and steam for. Most of the time I play emulators on my Shield tablet anyway. I've always been a console gamer. If I ever have a kid (I plan to), I'll get him Nintendo stuff.
If you're playing new PC games, though, you're right: Windows is the only option.
>>51595175
sorry, I forgot that I was supposed to use a much shittier, "more customizable" DE like KDE or spend several hours configuring and learning a 3% more productive tiling WM
>>51595203
Instead of dual booting, seriously, what a pain in the arse when you suddenly change moods. I've been tempted to try VM. Not surebif want Linux with Windows VM or Windows with Linux VM. Not sure I even want VM or how much Truth there is to the whole "GPU pass through" idea.
Loaded question based on false premise. 0/10
How do I get paid for shilling Windows? I only use Linux, but I wouldn't mind pretending to love the botnet as long as it gets me some easy money.
>>51593809
>You could use a VM
Just keep in mind that the end result will be a moderately crippled version of whatever you install. I find that installing on an external drive gives a more accurate representation.
>>51595306
You probably have to be Indian.
>>51591880

The very fact that you're posing the question suggests there are things you dislike about windows that, if solved to your liking, would cause you to drop MSFT like a bag of shit.

Low level permissions for userspace programs. Windowing system doesn't run in kernelspace.
Killing a non-responsive program in Windows on my 16GB RAM 8-core PC: often involves waiting for CTRL-ALT-DEL menu to open for about 30-60 seconds. Sometimes explorer crashes inexplicably because of it.
Killing a non-responsive program in linux OSs: Open new TTY; pkill [program].
it's more convenient to do some tasks like programming in linux. Multi desktop lets me have a more productive and less frustration-prone work day.
Also easy and powerful command line . For example i use a rsync command mapped to a key combination to copy stuff from my dropbox folder to my server root.
Try linux , if you don't find any advantages go back to windows.

>>51595921
I've been using it for half a month and I love the community.
>>51591880
Linux is free. If you have to pay for windows and applications then that's an issue.
Also I like to mod my linux installation and when rewriting applets I crash it very often. The plus is that you can just ctr+alt+esc and restart the OS without restarting the machine. Its a cool feature.
>>51591943
>Linux is more stable
that's a good one anon
>>51591880
Linux is:
- more customizable
- more secure
- community driven
- more flavourful (has lots of varieties)
- more lightweight
- newer (most distros get frequent, scheduled updates)
- free (in both ways: good for cheapos and good for stallmanists)
- not difficult to use (in most cases)
- prettier (Chakra is a good example of KDE being very pretty)
- a good way to learn more about your computer
- more stable (with SOME distros such as Debian Stable or Ubuntu LTS)
That being said, Linux isn't for everyone. Some poeple don't really care about these features and just use what they're comfortable with, which is fine.
>>51597819
What makes think it isn't?
>>51593650
Sorry that Linux doesn't have a team of dedicated shills on India.
