With the demise of Firefox and the lack of a proper Gecko browser alternative, is it clear that WebKit/Blink browsers are the future?

Are getting ourselves into another era of "Better viewed with a WebKit browser™"? Would you even care?

A lot of you probably bash it without even trying. It actually is a great browser

>Better viewed with a WebKit browser™
Well, at least that would make web development kinda neat.

I wish more websites had the balls to tell their users that using IE 8 in 2015 is simply not appropriate. That they're holding everyone back. That IE 10 should be the minimum.
>>
How close are WebKit and Blink anymore even?

There is no Pale Moon for Mac OSX. We need something supoprting all platforms.
>>
>>51590691
I'm curious too.
>>
>>51590711
There cannot possibly be a good web browser for OSX, because OSX is not a good operating system.

Install gentoo and then you'll be fine.

I tried a while ago a version called NewMoon, basically, Pale Moon compiled for OSX, it was pretty great, but sadly, it's been discontinued too. Hope they find someone to build it, because I'd really love to use it.

I can confirm, just switched to Palemoon, there are some rough edges, but it's a great browser, and it uses surprisingly low RAM. It's magic!

The true magic is having 30 tabs open and only 500 MB RAM usage. I mean, holy shit, Chrome and Firekeks both used 1G+ under the same usage, what the fuck have I been missing out on. Holy shit!

Are all webkit browsers botnet /g/?
>>
Even with Mozilla killing XUL it still has the potential to be the better browser.
>>
>>51591451
It doesn't stop there. They're making the wrong decisions left and right.

It's going to be another Chrome clone, and if you don't see it coming, you're just lying to yourself.
>>
>>51591416
In one way or another they all phone home, so yes
>>
>>51591468

It kind of already is thanks to Australis. Not to mention killing XUL is in favor of porting Chrome/Safari extensions. I'm not too worried if vertical tabs are still possible after WebExtentions take over (https://wiki.mozilla.org/WebExtensions#Additional_APIs)
>>
I knew it KDE wins again! Thanks KHTML
>>
>>51591533

sad news brother :(

webkit is fast as fuck, firefox needs themes to make it usable and the devs suck dick
>>
>>51591381
The problem is it was originally only supposed to be a version of Firefox optimized for Windows desktops.
Then suddenly Australis happened and Pale Moon became the new "next big thing". The developers accepted that role but weren't prepared for it. They still kinda aren't - the linux version of the browser is kinda buggy and there isn't a functional Mac version.
>>
>>51591711
That's true. If it's going to be Gecko's salvation, it needs to grow.
>>
>>51591033
>there are some rough edges

Which are weasel-words for "a bunch of shit doesn't work but I'm going to pretend it doesn't matter"
>>
>>51591773
The "rough edges" mostly pertain to it being close enough to Firefox to be compatible but not so close that webpages think it's compatible.
Which is more of a webdev issue than a webbrowser issue, but still. Biggest problem I've seen with it so far is that those shitty new "Click all the pictures with cocks and balls" captchas don't load right.

>>51593652
By that time there won't be any Firefox users left.
And completely new rendering engine won't be without issues, why would even users of other browsers switch to "new Firefox"?

Maybe they will rename it when they switch Servo for Gecko, to get rid of bad reputation (just like Microsoft did with IE). But seriously, who is gonna switch to browser?

Chrome does have the whole ecosystem, is present on every possible OS, new Firefox has to be on completely different level, just for people to consider it. Not only performance wise (like Edge is, but it didn't help it), but also feature wise ...

Turbofaggot here.
About to try Palemoon, I'm done with firefox. I feel like it's worse than chrome by now. Anything I should know? Can I install muh adblocker and watch youtube videos and live streams (flash/html5)? Also I fear I will lose anonymosity on certain sites because I will be the only user with that web browser. Any way to combat this, like the admin reading out browser informations?

servo with one thread is faster than chrome so servo + webrender is enough even if it comes in 2019

Don't forget they spent a year trying to decide on a name. It was called Phoenix then Firebird (GM didn't like that)

They still haven't closed the bug for "missing kitchen sink"

The single reason I still stick with Firecücks is because of bookmark syncing.
I want to have my bookmarks everywhere I go.

browsers are shit. news at 11. same will happen with servo.
I guess it's easier to start something new than to try to fix the mess you have created by yourself. good example: IE -> edge. microsoft ended ditching IE altogether
