What gives? Why have processing speeds stayed the same when they used to increase exponentially from generation to generation?

I know this is a meme thread, but the 'bit'-ness of a console was determined by the largest bus it had.

PS4 has a 256 bit bus on its graphics card, which would make it a 256 bit console. The PS3 had a 128 bit bus on its graphics card. You're list should be:

NES = 8 Bit
SNES = 16 Bit
PSX = 32 bit
PS2 = 64 bit
PS3 = 128 bit
PS4 = 256 bit

no it's about the amount of memory they can handle. 8 -> 16 -> 32 -> 64 was required, but 64 bit can use like 2 extobytes or some other retarded amount of memory we will never reach, no need to increase.

The problem may be solved using simple addition. With 64 squares on a chessboard, if the number of grains doubles on successive squares, then the sum of grains on all 64 squares is: 1 + 2 + 4 + 8... and so forth for the 64 squares. The total number of grains equals 18,446,744,073,709,551,615, much higher than what most intuitively expect.

No, it was not. The "bit-ness" is the memory address size of the architecture of each console, just like Pentium 4 processors were 32-bit and everything since the Athlon 64 and Core 2 have been 64-bit. Also, the same way most smartphones had 32-bit SoCs until recently.

Also, the PS2 was not 64-bit, its CPU had a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit processing units. The PS3 and PS4 are both 64-bit, like every other CPU we have today.

I don't know where you idiots get this retarded idea that it's about buses. And if it where, the PS3 would be 256-bit, because that's the width of the interconnect bus between Cell's core and vector units.
