What model is that?
>>
Serious question, what is the point of a smartwatch?
If you get a notification, you still have to look at your phone to respond to it.
If you wanted a watch, you should have just gotten a nice quartz or mechanical that doesn't need to be plugged into the wall every day.
>>
>>51576145
there are notifications you don't need to reply:
> weather
> traffic warnings
> directions

Besides, it could be possible to use as a phone, but that looks retarded like those N-Gages.

pebble apps were designed for the pebble, so yes they'll be monotone. There are a lot apps that are made for color screens too, but the Steel was made to be backwards compatible with OG pebble apps.

>>
>>51581894
as an owner of the original, the original is nice and i wouldn't get the new one because it's missing the rose gold accent on the side of the watch.

If it has Wi-Fi and a heartrate sensor, then go right ahead, I like it a lot.
>>

I work a lot in different labs and I am coming into more and more situations where I can't interact with my phone. So being able to see notifications without touching my phone is rather handy.

>>
>>51582232
if it's 22mm then yes it'll fit. The larger one, that is. The smaller one uses smaller straps

I saw the old one on sale for $150, but the new one is on sale for $130 with the rubber strap. throw in any metal strap for a few bucks more and you've got yourself a snazzy watch with a band you picked yourself. Makes it personalized.

My first pebble steel had a tiny bit of scrambling so I rushed to get a new one under warrenty before it ran out. I don't even use my new one, especially since I'm too lazy to buy a new screen protector.

Apparently the Time doesn't get screen scrambling, but the build quality is terrible. I'd rather just not buy a new smartwatch.

Haven't tech companies invented sapphire crystals yet?
They just love reinventing the wheel after all.
>>
>>51584051
I don't know, I'd just rather pay for a 5 dollar piece of plastic instead of a new watch if it gets a deep scratch on it somehow. It's not safe in my pocket like my phone.

Plus, it fits perfectly inbetween a sticker skin that covers the pebble logo on the front. Makes the huge black space not so terrible looking.
>>
>>51584098
my point is that "dumbwatches" solved these issues 70 years ago when they introduced things like mineral glass and sapphire crystal to deter scratches.

It'll be a loooong time before smartwatches become an all-purpose replacement for a dumbwatch.

I feel like people just wear smart watches to look like tech people/trendy. I can't think of anything that is worn on the wrist that isn't a fashion statement, when you can just check the time on your phone.

Well I don't think anyone would argue that they are in anyway necessary, but I have found them to be handy in a few ways.

-First off, I'm used to wearing a watch anyway, so it's not a huge commitment for me.
-You can do easy tasks (responding to texts, reading emails, adding reminders or calendar events) without having to get out your phone.
-I personally can rarely feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and I don't like obnoxiously loud ringers, so I would often miss things. I ended up being conditioned to automatically check my phone every few minutes, without even thinking about it. That's really the worst part because it feels maddening and I start feeling like a phone addict. Not to mention in a lot of settings it's a little rude.

As far as charging it nightly, I don't mind. I charge my phone nightly anyway so it's just a small addition to my daily routine.
>>
>>51576209

i wear full suit to work and my chinkwatch matches silver/black belts and buckles very well. at least in the uk, nobody wears massive pimp-style rolexes anymore and business community has moved towards minimalist/bauhaus watches (junghans, junkers). new gen of smartwatches emulates these looks very well.

stop with the bad looks meme. new gen looks really good and they are catching up.

whole swiss industry missed the fucking boat on implementing smart functionality onto their designs and itll be the same story as with nokia that missed the phone revolution.

all they had to do was to break out a line matching their jew aesthetics with added benefits of a smartwatch but they fucking blew it. with all their resources and low barriers to entry they fucking blew it. only TAG is trying to get back in the game st the moment..

>month long battery life

It would print money.

>There are people browsing /g/ right now that don't enjoy replacing featureless dumb technology with feature rich smart technology

Smartwatches are great. They could be a lot better, especially battery life wise, but they will be in the future. Even at their current state they are still smarter than any normal watch.

I have the old LG G Watch since I wanted one that had a square screeen and replaceable band. I might accept round screens in the future but I really liked square screens better when I bought it.

It doesn't even matter if the warranty stands. I told them I had a screen tearing problem with my original Pebble and it was out of warranty. They sent me a new one and asked me to send them the old one. I didn't because I was lazy and they haven't said anything to me about not sending it.

I only paid for the Pebble (original) and the G-Watch. The Pebble Steel and Time may or may not have been social engineered. My problem is not nearly as bad as it appears

This. I cringe hard when I see someone with a "smart" watch. Usually they're the most autistic.

>i am going to waste money on yet another digital screen with a battery that lasts nothing and that'll be obsolete in a few years!
So smart!

pebble lasts days due to B&W looking display +backlit.
Thing lets me reply to texts using hotkeys. That alone is worth $80 and gets more done than useless bling watch. I have a phone for time. To me-it is a personal distinction of character. It is useful to me first and foremost, secondly it tells others when I am talking to them that I am busy, especially when five emails hit my watch and I read them while someone is paused in the middle of thought. If you are purchasing watches with shinies on it then you obviously are trying to show off your possessions. That is my implication.

Actually there's a color version of Trefoil out, which in a cruel twist of fate is broken on monochrome Pebble variants. I'll be working on Trefoil Classic to get a working version back up for monochrome.

how does the Pebble Time Steel deal with water?

I have a black Pebble Time.

Like it alot. Battery lasts forever, is waterproof so I can wear it in the shower. Quick to check alerts and emails without grabbing my phone or if its in another room.

Can't seem to decide on a watchface though. I like a bunch of the weather ones but none of them quite do it for me fully.

Anyone tried making their own apps/watchfaces for the pebble? How hard is it?

Just use pebble.js in CloudPebble. For most purposes you really don't need to write C.
