This is the only acceptable font rendering in any OS.
Prove me wrong.

what's the difference between font rendering and font? I can't tell a difference between any of these pics.
gentoo, firefox
103 ppi
fontconfig-ultimate, preset 4 (default is 3)
liberation family
>>51575495
I prefer the unbloated and aliased look, it's just easier for my eyes to read.
>>51575510
Font is a bunch of shapes, strictly defined by their coordinates with high precision.
Font rendering is the process during which system turns those strictly defined shapes into bitmaps to be displayed on your monitor.
>>51575574
looks blurry as fuck
>>51575676
Are you always wearing 3D glasses
hi
>>51575663
No it doesn't. Open it in a new tab. Or better yet, get a pair of glasses.
>>51575730
>Open it in a new tab.
i did and it's blurry. i already got my glasses, don't you have yours?
Chrome (default) on Ubunutu 14.04
>>51575743
It's objectively not blurry, something is wrong with your monitor, or you're still not zooming in.
>>51575296
Yours hurts my eyes.
>>51575296
OP that shit is worst than XP's font rendering.
>>51575663

No it doesn't. Show us yours.
>>51576042
second catch of the day. you autists are too easy

Get mactype then. Better yet, install gentoo and emerge fontconfig-ultimate.
>>51575296
I actually kind of agree. The eye strain with subpixel/anti-aliasing really gets to me after awhile. I use OS X and mactype with a custom ios.ini on my windows workstation, but I might just use aliased rendering on windows in the future.
>>51576333
>retard
Nice argument, look at those fucking kanji under 'Emperor of Japan' though or get a pair of glasses.
>>51576339
nuh, it's fine the way it is
>>51576258
BGR subpixel ordering? Ew.
step up
i'm fine with plain freetype rendering
>>51576400
>>51576258
use the same dpi as everyone else you faggots, for the purpose of this thread, using a different scale defeats comparability
>>51576394
>nuh, it's fine the way it is
It really isn't, but I wouldn't expect a retard who uses Windows 7 to notice the difference.
>>51575296
There's nothing to prove wrong.
>>51576400
What font? Got any more info?
I like aliased text, but usually when I try to do it on *nix, the fonts look like garbage for some reason.
Firefox on FreeBSD, with a custom fonts.conf. The default font smoothing on vanilla X11 is garbage.
>>51575296
looks like absolute gnulix trash, I'll stick to my god tier windows 10 + chrome default rendering

I have to admit it. Yours is shit.
>>51575296
Serif
>>51576498
Try antialiased (subpixel), but stick to single pixel line width and use full hinting. It gives you good looking italics without bold gray (mac-style) or blurry (cleartype) rendering. Doesn't work too well for moonrunes though.
>>51575296
I agree but it requires a high dpi display
>>51575367

Wow, Safari's and Chrome's font rendering differs sometimes so much

Windows 10 has the best font rendering I have seen. Love it in my Ultrasharp 2560x1600.
>>51577563
>>51576510
This looks easily the best. It is even faster to read than the other choices and doesnt strain your eyes.

Average appletard. The font in that screenshot is actually Helvetica. SF is used in the UI, not in all webpages.

Is there anything to do about Win 7 default font rendering or will I just have to get used to it?
Fuck ever since I started dual booting the windows font rendering has been bugging the fuck out of me. Screw you /g/. This is your fault.
>>51575663
Get a pair of glasses
>>51575296
whats your config OP?
>>51581228
The difference in sharpness between the 1-bit letters hammered into pixels and the rest is just too much.
