Yeaboi. And we had a manually adjustable antenna for the TV. Fading in... Fading in... Aight, perfect.

Isn't this shit composite or s-vid quality?
>>

You could just pass the time watching VHS tapes.

>this pleb
LaserDisc had a number of advantages over VHS. It featured a far sharper picture with a horizontal resolution of 425 TVL lines for NTSC and 440 TVL lines for PAL discs, while VHS featured only 240 TVL lines
>double the resolution
>>
>>51573799
If it's the future, then how come VHS lasted longer?
>>
>>51573805
it's not quite dvd quality, more like say, svcd quality
it's hard to directly compare, since laserdisc uses analog video
>>
>>51573821

I'm not saying it's not an improvement over VHS dumbass. I'm saying it's not DVD tier.

Who said consumers were smart?

Plebs are gonna pleb.
>>
>>51573858
They all waited for DVD's. The PS2 was the last nail in the coffin for LaserDisc, because it gave DVD a massive install base.
>>
>>51573847
Are you stupid?
All DVDs are 480-576 depending on fps
25 @ 576
29.97 @ 480

It's literally DVD quality in the 90s
>>
>>51573898

DVD is RGB
Laserdisc is composite
DVD is much better quality

>Composite is better
Oh you're the kind of retard who thinks digital is automatically better than analog.
>>
>>51573858
>Implying everybody has money to throw away.

It's just like Beta vs. VHS. VHS was technically inferior, but it was cheaper and had higher storage capacity.
>>
>>51573888

Err, but we were just talking about VHS and Laserdisc. Are you saying those consumers skipped both and waited for DVD?

That's what it sounds like you're saying.

PS2/DVD was the death of every format that came prior. Obviously.
>>
>>51573944

How is composite better than RGB then?
>>
>>51573969
Laser Discs offer true full-bandwidth uncompressed, uncopyguarded video. When used with an analog video line doubler and data- grade video display, a good laser disc can easily outperform it's (unprocessed) DVD counterpart.

Eat shit
>>
>>51573944
But RGB is better than composite, anon
>>
>>51573913
dvd is YUV 4:2:0, not RGB

dvd does support progressive scan though, so you get all up to 576 lines per frame
>>
>>51573987
>Compressed to fuck RGB blockytown is better than uncompressed composite

>>
>>51573973

I think I just have a soft spot for dead technology. Probably the same reason I bought the last MD player from Sony.

God it's sexy though.
>>
>>51574013
the only time i ever saw a laserdisc was in a kareoke machine at a campsite, in iirc 2002

at least around me, everyone used vhs up until dvd took over, and even then kept using vhs for recording because it was still a cheaper way to record things from tv
>>

>Being a poorfag with compromised quality
kek
>>

But Laserdisc was first released a mere 2 years after VHS.
>>
>>51573944
RGB can be analog you autist. Don't confuse RGB with component. It has been proven time and time again that RGB is far superior than composite. Go to the /vr/ CRT thread.
>>
>>51574000
i'll take progressive scan component output from a dvd over LD composite any day

sure, dvd's not perfect, ringing artifacts and occational blocking are visible, but it's better than interlacing/composite artifacts

i bet you only used composite output from a dvd player
>>
>>51574085
And yet laserdisc still has superior image quality.
>>
>>51574096
>interlaced
>superior
>>
>>51574085
both RGBs and component are analog

and dvd doesn't store video as RGB, it stores it as YUV420
>>
>>51574108
Component is digital.

Some DVDs are also interlaced.
>>
>>51574127
Interlaced or Progressive is determine by the output of the DVD player not the video.
>>
>>51574123
No, it's analog.

>>
>>51574088

kek movies aren't stills faget
>>
>>51574140
The source sometimes is interlaced, but the DVD player does the job of deinterlacing the source and outputting it as progressive or not.
Not every DVD is progressive.
>>
>>51574123
component uses the YUV colorspace, and does sync-on-green, but it's otherwise very similar to RGBs, both are analog

Hey guys

Get with the times, this shit is the future
>>
>>51574311
yea, it has ringing and macroblocks (digital compression artifacts) as downsides, but it has progressive scan, higher resolution, and no composite artifacts as upsides

the two are only comparable if you have an interlaced dvd master hooked up over composite, but you'd be gimping dvd in this case
>>
>>51573850
I cannot help but laugh thinking that it just spins the disc into a random direction and breaking it.
