Has anyone used this 43' LG 4K TV as a monitor?

http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics...keywords=lg+43

I figured I'd get a 32 inch at 1080p, but then I thought why not go slightly bigger and get a slightly bigger TV at double the res in order to make up for the size and PPI. I have a 980ti.

yeah, just like that 1080p meme

4x the pixel space is not a rip off

>Nah mate, I just came in here to take a dump
>>
Well, I would just use the 4k resolution for desktop usage and I would still play games at 1080p.

Pick one.

i'm not a child, so the game dilemma doesn't really apply.
>>
I also have $300 in amazon credit, so the TV would come out to about $248.

how could i have realized that? i'm not clairvoyant like you apparently are.

OP here again, would 1080p games on a 4k television look terrible?
>>
>>51573550
I've got a similar LG 4k TV (40 inch variant) Which I have hooked up to my PC, Mac Pro, and laptop on occasion and it looks pretty damn good.

I'd happily use it as a monitor if my desk was deep enough for it.
>>
>>51573646
Theoretically no, it should look exactly the same. Realistically, it would depend on the TV's renderer/upscaler.
>>
>>51573550
I use the lg 49uf7600 as a monitor, mostly for workstation, generally pretty happy.

pluses:
> IPS = great color at steep off-angle views
> does UHD@60Hz with 4:4:4 chroma
> can adjust backlight PWM duty cycle independently of strobe brightness to save your eyeballs
> low latency at UHD

negatives:
> not great latency at upscaled 720p/1080p
> needs hdmi 2.0 (gtx 960 or better) to get UHD@60Hz w/ 4:4:4 chroma
> 91 dpi too low for some, though fine if you're just editing code all day

Took like 2 weeks to get used to the size, completely fine now.
Would probably recommend the 43" model for most over this though.

See if you are wanting this 4k TV to play games, don't bother. The refresh rate of a decent prized LCD would be even better.

Believe it or not the refresh rate of old CRT monitors can beat refresh rates of current LCD and LED monitors of today.

Can't wait till gig internet is the norm
>>
>>51575416
Is there a game mode on it? Is latency really that bad playing 1080p?
>>
>>51575983
Latency is usually really bad for TV, that's why you usually don't use them as monitors.

>Believe it or not the refresh rate of old CRT monitors can beat refresh rates of current LCD and LED monitors of today.

I don't believe it, because this is bullshit.
The highest clocked LCDs today can go to 200 Hz, but even the god-king of CRTs (Sony GDMFW900) was limited to 48-160 Hz with 30-121 kHz h-sync, which meant 720p@160Hz was about the limit.

CRT motion clarity and color accuracy were better, but LCDs have had much higher bandwidth for years.

>>51575983
there is game mode, which makes things fine at UHD resolution at least.
1080p has perceptible lag for me regardless of settings.

>>51576056
this varies highly by vendor, so you can get perfectly good performance at a great price if you do your research
>>
>>51576123
oh man, that's a bummer wanted to get a small tv to use as a monitor in the meantime till more 144hz monitors are produced.
>>
>>51576190
why would you even want to use a 40+" UHD display as a 1080p monitor?

Is would look like blocky ad/or smeared ass.
>>
>>51576371
Well I would just use it for 1080p for gaming, are there any other 4k televisions with lower input lag at 1080p? Totally not sure on what monitor to go with because in the end I wish there was something bigger than 27 inches. What monitor has the best IQ currently?
>>
>>51576459
current UHD TVs appear to have mediocre-to-poor latencies at 1080p, unfortunately.
>>
on the topic of buying monitors

Does anybody know of a really inexpensive monitor that has Displayport outputs? It can be a 17" square monitor, it just has to have Displayport.
>>
>>51575416
>4:4:4 chroma
I am a new at this chroma thing? Does 4:4:4 mean full color? Or is there something better than 4:4:4?
>>
>>51576678
outputs? are you serious?
