I own two of 5200 mAh ones. They're convenient as fuck and can even be used to power all my projects too

Have a Kmashi MP816 10,000 mAH battery bank I got for $7. Not bad, use it when out and about. Good for trips. Friends are always needing it. Want to pick up a huge capacity one if I can get it cheap with all these tech sales.

For one, they make pretty great gifts, not too expensive, but they look pricy and its something people will actually use instead of a retarded ass photo frame or something

I have a 20000mAh Anker. I fucking love it. My EDC consists of my smartphone and a tablet bag containing an iPad, a Bluetooth speaker, a folding keyboard, and a gamepad, all of which charge over USB. It's a godsend in that context. I carry one Lightning cable and one micro-USB cable, and can charge almost anything.

I've got one labeled 10Ah but I doubt it is. Haven't cracked it open to check but it lasts quite a while, especially considering it lives in my car so it's always charged thanks to the solar panel it's got built in

Really though, I haven't actually plugged the thing in to charge since I bought it about 6 months ago

Anker 10000mAh
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009USAJCC
Bought in a spate of "buy stuff!" consumer whorism to take advantage of Amazon Prime trial.

I often use it in tandem with with my HooToo TripMate Nano, though I think I would've been better served by the Tripmate Elite which would've covered both items' functions.

For starters, it can be lying about its capacity. Or the ports could be fragile. Or the casing could crack. Or it could be larger than it needs to be. Anything, really, you're pretty much taking their word for it when you buy from the chinks.

5, 10, 16Ah - all Xiaomi.

True, but none of the devices are rated in that.

Also, most apart from the Xiaomi don't have a rating for 5V AND the native voltage their Lithium rechargeables run on, they usually just rate the lithium rechargeables only 'cause it looks better.

Pic is the miller charger / discharger (can use it like a battery pack with an unprotected 18650 of your choice, it will sit pretty firmly in that). And it has pretty minimal weight on its own.

That can get you anything up to about 4Ah, I think... best 18650 I have currently are ~3.4Ah Panasonics, though.

The old & new 10Ah, 16Ah, old 5Ah look like a rounded box to me.

And the 5 and 20Ah variants just like a box, but they are good & cheap and the front panel is arguably aesthetic.

Don't buy from eBay or some crap like that, though. Get it from one of the many reputable chinese export stores, or highly rated aliexpress sellers who state it's original Xiaomi.

The pack is popular enough for externally next to perfect fakes to have appeared, but those imitations don't have batteries or charging/discharging electronics that are nearly as good.
>>

>>
>>51569307
Hm, I have 26H and F, but they're the economical batteries I use in my lights that store around 2.4Ah. And if I checked correctly, so do the 25R?

The Panasonics (NCR18650B) are better with their 3.2-3.4 Ah, no? (Also, actually the LG that are in muh Xiaomi battery packs are better, but I haven't removed any of these yet... just going by tests).

>>51569329

No, they're strictly for USB. Incidentally, this is one of the best things about having an iPad as a daily driver instead of a laptop: it charges via USB.
>>
>>51568579
batteries can provide inconsistent energy (or the USB ports might not conform to USB specs and potentially burn out your device).

Batteries and anything in general that provides energy are really problematic. Cheaping out on a battery (or a PSU, or a laptop charger) is pretty much universally considered ill-advised.

Don't just buy any old chink shit. at least see what their track record is.

You mean a household power plug, 110V - 250V something?

No, they're 5V USB battery packs, except the car one.

For 110V - 250V you'd need a really big and heavy array (solar installations and stuff in off-grid houses have them).

What IS feasible for such portable use is more like, a gasoline/diesel generator. Pic related.
>>
Got to be careful with battery banks all it takes is 1 cheap chinese battery to explode in the night and burn your house down. And if you do have them, well dont keep them over anything flammable.

PS: Here are how how the solar off-grid household (or server room backup power or whatever) batteries might look.

You get a bunch of these and the other electronics required for charging / discharging them, and you can run 110V / 240V off them for a while. Not very portable, though.

Also, actually if you want more lifespan out of these more long-lived LiFePO4 batteries, you'll be charging them to 70-80% of capacity or so only. They decay slower then, making them more economical. So ... the battery installation would be even heavier than on the spec sheet. Doesn't matter much in a house, but you won't be carrying these around.

With the Lithiums that are in consumer electronics battery packs & smartphones and stuff, you kinda just accept that it's the shorter-lived / higher power to weight - ratio lithium technology that will be more expensive over time, and roll with it. It will likely be time for a replacement in 4-7 years or so; shit happens, better than carrying twice the weight.

Can't match the generator for something with a reasonable weight and capacity (and even cost, with not very intensive use) anyways, if it still needs to be portable and household power.

>>
>>51569804
Wow, never had that one before.

*Maybe* it's just some glue / solvent they used in the battery... but perhaps I'm being optimistic.

I'd replace it. Saving $10-12 on not getting a Xiaomi probably isn't worth damage to furniture or whatever that might cause if it fails in the wrong way (even just a bigger leak), and also you'll get a presumably *much* better battery.
>>
>>51569862
>Xiaomi

I shall look into that, thanks. I'm from Australia too, would you happen to know where would be best to buy one from?

I think it is a leaking as I only get about 0-70% charge when I use the 4000mah power bank to charge my phone (1850mah battery) I assume some of the power would be lost in the transfer through heat and such, but surely a 4000mah would be able to give at least one full charge to my phone? because of this Im sorta assuming that one of the batteries has died.

And yes, its not worth burning my house down over.

They're more expensive ($60-70+) but they make ones for laptops too. Generally speaking though you're better off with a spare laptop battery (and charge the phone through its USB) because of the conversion losses.

I'm from Europe, but I think the shipping rates generally are flat rate to the west in China.

Check gearbest, banggood, geekbuying, merimobiles, 1949deal, ... and whoever else you find with these results.

Or highly rated aliexpress sellers that explicitly say the article is genuine Xiaomi. 10Ah bank should be around $10-12, about the same for the flatter 5Ah one, 20Ah goes for like $32-35 where I saw it (but that's maybe not the best deal possible).

> And yes, its not worth burning my house down over.
Not even worth cleaning up on a table or whatever, shit tends to be so annoying if a battery leaks.

>>51570308
Second laptop battery? They're also Lithium packs, but you don't want to transfer energy like 7.4V -> 240V -> 9V -> 7.4V or some shit like that. Surely 240V or whatever is how you get your household power in bulk, but then best just put it in the battery and done.

My pleasure.

Be aware that there *also* is an even newer 20Ah variant >>51568953 of the power bank that also has newer batteries (and thus more storage / weight), but that one costs $30-35 ish.

Not a linear increase in price from 10Ah ($10-12) to 20Ah ($30-35), so most people probably don't buy it for that reason. I didn't yet either, waiting for a price drop - it's also an export market problem, too expensive vs the Chinese original price.
>>
>>51571324
Personally, I'm never paying extra for it.

The Chinese have lost almost nothing so far, our local postal services pretty much never loose anything, and trying to find a $10 package actually might not be even worth my time.

Mostly, it'd be the sellers that need tracking for proof on trade platforms (on eBay and even more on aliexpress, I can just go "not received" and they'll refund otherwise - not that I ever scammed anyone, but you kinda need that as a seller). Or for bigger items, because only tracked ones generally have insurance with postal services.

>>
>>51572359
there's a legitimate concern about third party brands. given the value of the devices you're plugging into these things - and the margin you're talking about trying to save money on one vs another - it just makes sense to buy Anker or some other well-established brand.

Note that I'm not discounting things made in China (that's insane, we'd be ruling out just about everything), but ruling out the absolutely no-name shit out there.

Well, unlike with household power adapters, the risk of power banks actually frying your device is low, due to how they and your smartphone work.

They can however quite possibly damage what they're sitting on when *they* themselves are charging, if there's a catastrophic failure.

Well, more typically than that, the shitty ones will have craptastic internal batteries that are like 1/3 the weight to energy ratio of the good stuff, low efficiency electronics (since you do 3.7V<->5V and all that, you can actually incur lots of head losses if they're poor) and fail early.

This. Pebble explorer. 8400mAh. Two outputs. 1 1a. The other 2a.

Pretty good. Can charge my galaxy s4 3-4 times on a single charge.

I'm waiting for a high capacity power bank that has quick charge capabilities and doesn't cost a fortune
