Not sure if this is the right place for this. But, I'm at the end of my rope with our ISP. I live in the country, and there's only ONE ISP that covers the area. Fastest they offer is 5mbps. Well, I never get fucking near that let me tell you. It's especially horrid on Friday/Saturday when all of the citiots come up and their window licking children do nothing but sit on their wifi. Right now, I have a 144p youtube video PAUSED SO I CAN LET THE FUCKING THING LOAD. Even browsing simple web pages is a no go. Sometimes, when I'm reeaaalllyyyy lucky, speedtest clocks it at a whopping .08mb! Need fucking seatbelts for these kind of speeds. I have been calling them for YEARS, trying to get them to do something about it. Have had a technician to the house at least 12 different times in the past 3 years alone. "Oh we'll look into it" "Oh we'll have our specialist team look at it". Nothing is ever fixed. Is there ANYTHING I can do to motivate these fucktwats to actually do something, or am I fucked until either a) I decide to move to some shit city or b) Another ISP decides to cover the area? I have a decent mid level gaming pc, absolutely fucking bottle-necked by this piss poor internet. Pic is my pc, not the greatest because I'm not the richest, but she gets me by.

Shameful self bump, sorry.
>>
Threaten lawsuit for not providing advertised speeds?
>>
>>51566248
Wouldn't that just get forwarded to the FCC?
>>
>>51566122
Where do you live, OP?
>>
you're pretty much fucked.

Pine River, Minnesota. But, I may not get the same things as in town in PR, because I live 15 minutes out of town towards nothing of any real significance.
>>
>>51566248
Well, I brought this up to them once actually, and all they said was "Well then we will just start giving you a lower speed package"...
>>
>>51566122

Move.

I am not kidding.

I like how you're blaming the other customers for the fact that your ISP has oversold their capacity to everyone, including you, and is now cheating each and every one of you. You're really a world-class idiot.

Brissy. Got bandwidth for dayyys
>>
>>51567511

he's not blaming them, he's mad because he's not getting advertised speed AND it gets even slower during peak hours.

op go to the local newspaper and raise hell.

i live innawoods about 10 miles from town and get a solid 6mb down which is what i pay for. shitty tier plan is shitty. i could pay another 25 bucks for 25mb down but i'm cheap and 6 is ok for everything but steam downloads.

What if he hates them anyway?

That's cute. You think there's a single fucking thing he can do about his subpar rural WiFi. The truth is, there's nothing anyone can do, because we're a shitty FYGM capitalist backwater where nobody gets a rollout unless it's profitable.

I have this exact same problem. I actually just upgraded to my provider's *new* plan which is supposed to give me 7 mbps, pic related is what I'm actually getting. Every time I call them, they tell me that "they're oversubscribed" in my area. I also live about 15 minutes out of a rural town, and no other provider services my area.
>>
Drop service with them and tether from your phone service. You probably have access to faster cellular signal than Internet.
>>
Just move. I guarantee you that you will find faster internet somewhere within a 10-15 mile radius - in other words, still close enough to commute to where you need to be every day.

You could do what >>51568433 said and tether from your phone service, but you will have to pay out the ass for it.

Fuck dealing with shitty internet. I was in the sticks for a while and the only ISP available was HughesNet. That's even worse than what you're dealing with. Download speeds would average less than 1 kbit per second, and it cost over $100 a month. Yeah, you read that right. Noped the fuck out of there real quick, there's nothing appealing about living in such a shitty remote area anyway.

after 6 years dealing with the only ISP available in my area i finally ended up moving myself. went from an WISP charging 12$ per mbit to 0.70$ per mbit with fiber provider.

i had a similar type of issue for about 6 years in my home, only instead of speed throttling down, i would get "randomly" disconnected. i say random because despite them insisting theres no obvious link of cause to the effect of my net dropping, I coudl literally say "itll be out in 5 seconds" and do one of various things to cause it to randomly restart (for example, back in 2006 or so, if i tried to join a CS:S server to play, the first connect to a server would drop me, then itd be fine for the rest of that gaming session until i quit and came back later)

had phone/line/internet techs out (i myself am a computer tech as well) from my ISP dozens and dozens of times. tinkered with "things on their end" dozens and dozens of times. checked all the lines in our house. replaced modem dozens of times, added/removed/replaced hardware from the network. nothing ever fixed

in the end, after years of arguing, the tech guy decided to give me a different model modem (they supply a specific model to their residential class, he decided trying to give me one they use for businesses) and the problems instantly vanished like fucking magic.

I have no idea why their modem was causing issue with us and only us, but it was. moral of story: try getting them to change the model of hardware youre using
