Looking for a budget mechanical keyboard with least resistance possible. From what i've read it seems that either red or black is the way to go (don't know much about green).
>>

>budget mechanical keyboard with least resistance possible
Then you should go for a rubberdome.
I've used rubberdome lighter than reds.
Your other choice would be some light Topre but it is nothing close to "budget".

I see some people in here mentioning how they have 3 or 4 different mechanical keyboards all in the budget to average range ($80-120). Why not just get one nice one instead? Do you guys just like to have one in each location (work, home, etc)?

That's actually gateron clears which are 35g linear switches

If you're willing to scour taobao you can easily find sub-$50 mech boards with cherry clones. Of course you shouldn't expect superb QC and backlighting that lasts more than a month, gaterons themselves are pretty good quality for a chink knockoff and reportedly smoother than cherry mx

I should have never bought the KC60 off massdrop. Completely shit:
- most of the keys are not consistent, some are mushy some are fine, absolutely ruins it for typing or playing games when some keys work just fine and then you hit a couple that are noticeably mushy, worse than a fucking rubberdome
- randomly the fucking thing starts typing the wrong keys, ex: q = 0, k = g, etc, reconnecting it fixes it temporarily

I should have just spent $120 on a Leopold and called it a day, rather than 3 fucking months on a shitty keyboard put together by chinese children.
>>

Gateron blues. The ones that work feel nice, but the ones that don't feel awful and don't even sound remotely the same as the ones that work properly.

Is there such a thing as a mech with a left-side numpad? I used my mouse left-handed for a while and the shorter reach distance was glorious. Tenkeyless is not really an option for me.
>>
>>51569474
No, you just use an external numpad.

> I used my mouse left-handed
But it makes more sense to have the numpad on the opposite side of the mouse, so a right numpad should be best.
>>
>>51569499
"for a while". I don't do that anymore. The task then becomes actually finding a mechanical numpad.

I really wish most boards available around didn't have such janky designs. RK has the most ass font possible. CM boards are full of ugly branded keys. Razer is razer. I'm almost about to buy another Das.

Get the tester. I was nearly ready to order clears but ended up liking greens much more after trying them.

Though i guess it depends on how much you're planning on spending. If you want an expensive board a tester is worth it to make sure you really like the switches.

Does anyone here have experience and opinions on Kailh Blue switches? I have a friend offering to sell me a keyboard on the cheap. He says they're quite nice, and I trust his opinion to be his actual thoughts on the keyboard. But I'm wondering if they're worth spending my money on.

Keyboard is a rosewill rgb80 and I'll be upgrading from a failing Logitech g110.

(This will be my first mechanical btw)
>>
>>51569721
I have Kailh Blue switches in a Keycool 84. It has PBT keycaps so that will alter my experience with them.

I like the feel of them more than Cherry MX Blues. Cherry MX Blues are so crispy. It also helps that Kailh Blue switches are slightly hevier than your average Cherry MX Blues.

With that said, there is one key (the Fn button) has the same tactile feeling, but doesn't make the clicky sound. I cannot say whether this is the result of the Kailh switches, or a reflection of Keycool's quality control.
>>
>>51565580
looking for a keyboard (qwertz) that does not have the metallic reverb when you release the switches a bit quicker or hit them with slightly more force. think that effect is referred to as filco ping?

The bottom row is nonstandard, so you'll have trouble replacing those keycaps.

Aside from which, gaymen shit is generally shunned around here since it very often has bad quality control and sub-par build quality and you can very often do better for the price.

Aside from which, that thing is ugly as shit.
>>
>>51572978
so actually nothing wrong with it expect that it doesn't suit your taste
>>
>>51572978
>The bottom row is nonstandard, so you'll have trouble replacing those keycaps.

>Aside from which, gaymen shit is generally shunned around here since it very often has bad quality control and sub-par build quality and you can very often do better for the price.

Clearly you can't read when the issue isn't 'just' about taste
>>
>>51573124
>replacing those keycaps
why would I replace keycaps? I never had to do so on any keyboard
>gaymen shit is shunned
ordering online was not an option and just saying "muh gaymen stuff is crap" is 100% subjective
>>
>>51573181
>why would I replace keycaps?
Because one of the beautiful things about mechanical keyboards is that you can actually replace the keycaps.

Want some nice thick PBT instead of thin ABS? Get a different keycap set.

Want a different keycap profile?
Get a different keycap set.

Want to change the looks of your keyboard just because?
Get a different keycap set.

A nonstandard bottom row eliminates a large amount of sets since they often don't make special bottom row modifiers just to accommodate for those people who were stupid enough to buy something with a non-standard bottom row. You buy a mechanical, but limit yourself from a whole lot of aftermarket keycap sets just because you bought something with a non-standard bottom row. You do nothing but shoot yourself in the foot like that.

>and just saying "muh gaymen stuff is crap" is 100% subjective
Build quality isn't subjective anon. You may be lucky with that asus keyboard and it may actually have proper build quality, but both razer and corsair shit out keyboards which are known for having issues with build quality and quality control. I don't know if the same applies to ROG peripherals, but I wouldn't be all to surprised if you get dead LEDs and dead switches within a few months.

That being said, you'll probably be quite happy with your keyboard. What you are reading here are the opinions of enthusiasts who are far more into this than you are. It's like asking a group of audiophiles if you did good in purchasing a set of logitech speakers. The answer is no, but that doesn't mean that you will not be satisfied with it, it's just that you are asking people with entirely different standards.
>>
>>51573181
Granted keycaps would be a matter of taste, although it would be wise to know most backlit keyboards come with ABS plastic keycaps which start to shine and become smooth after a while, and PBT plastic has a more solid feel and texture. For a product which entire experience heavily relies on feel, keycaps would be a consideration

Having poor ass QC is another issue especially on gaymen boards which usually contain LEDs that love to die out really fast and sometime have unresponsive switches. Gaymen boards rely on flashy rice and attractive prices to sell, and QC suffers for it.
>>
>>51573320
>>51573341
I guess learn and live, I'll just throw it in the trash if it dies after the one year warranty. Anyways it was more of an impulsive buy and obviously only mech keyboards available were gaymen stuff.
>>
>>51573411
>I'll just throw it in the trash if it dies after the one year warranty
In the even that this happens, get a soldering iron and desolder the switches. You can still sell those.
>>
>>51573421
thanks for the advice I'll keep that in mind. anyways I'm not going to lose sleep over a $100 purchase.

It isn't. You need to try out some switches to at least get an idea. Order a switch tester if you have no electronics stores you can check out boards at in europa.

Everyone has an idea of what the "best" switches are, but it's pretty subjective.

>>
>>51581660
Do you actually like the feel of rubberdomes?
If yes:
Brown or Clear (heavier)
Do you rather like it typewriterish:
Blue (about as heavy as a rubberdome)/Green or even White
Do you dislike a tactile bump?
Red (lighter than your average rubberdome)/Black (heavier)

If you still don't know, get a switchtester, like >>51581692 stated.

White or green cherry switches /mkg/?
>>
>>51582625
I got both (V60 White, Ducky Mini YOTH Green)
White switches are nice, but you got to be aware, that they are way heavier than greens.
Whites are about as heavy as greys, while greens are about as heavy as blacks.
Also white switches don't feel all the same. Some click more than others. While a lot of people dislike it, I actually don't mind.
I wouldn't get a MX White as daily driver, but sometimes it is pretty neat to use, since they feel and sound really different than other Cherry switches.
>>
>>51582819
what about for gaymen?
>>
>>51583331
There really isn't much difference in most games.
If you play OSU! both are pretty shit imo., but stuff like CS, BF, LoL, AC or something like SC2, works with both switches.
That whole "Switch A is for X" is total bullshit and everybody using these categories has no idea what he's talking about.

Currently using a K95 with reds and it's pretty shit, half the led are ded too.

How is topres? Need something more tacticle/ergnomic but still useable for gaems, nothing autistics that wants ultra rapid clicking though.

Considering Ergodox also since that will supposedly be good for my wrists/fingers.

I got an ergodox a few months ago.

Certainly takes time to get used to the ortholinear layout, but it is pretty nice.

Wish I could find a wooden plate like the one in your picture though.

So I know this is mechanical keyboard general, but are there any good rubberdomes out there that don't feel like shit?

I currently have a keyboard with MX Reds, and they have far too much noise, especially when I'm on Skype or some other voice chat. So are there any silent mechanicals out there, and failing that, are there any proper rubberdomes or other keyboards that would be good for typing and playing games and such?

I value the feel of knowing that I pressed something, so I don't want a completely mushy keyboard. I've heard that butterfly switches are alright, but I don't know if that's limited to Apple stuff (mostly anyway)

i bought a Razer Black Widow at walmart tonight to see what all the buzz is about with these mechanical keyboards.

i'll be returning it today.

best buy has the logitech g710+ for $65 though so i might try it out.
>>
>>51588580
Surely there has to be some? And I suppose they don't even have to be rubberdome, just as long as they're quiet. That's really all I want. I'm not alone in this house and I'd rather not annoy everyone with my typing constantly.

As I said, butterfly switches are apparently alright, but probably limited to laptops mostly. I also feel like getting one of the quiet MX switches would still be a bit too loud, and very mushy. So that only really leaves me with keyboards that are either rubberdome, or don't have a whole lot of travel. But I'm no expert, so that's why I'm asking you guys.
>>
>>51565580
Are there decent keyboards with reliable, colored LEDs? (Looking for orange, but I could go red if all the multi-color ones suck.) Preferably under $150, but I welcome whatever info. The sticky lists some with options, but there are mixed reviews depending on ones with multiple color options.
