FIREFOX IS SAVING THUMBNAILS OF THE PAGES YOU ACCESS
Images are sometimes not shown due to bandwidth/network limitations. Refreshing the page usually helps.

I never used the "new tab page". Despite setting it to be blank and then replacing it completely with about:blank using Tab Mix Plus, I found out there's a "thumbnails" folder in my Firefox profile directory with screenshots of the pages I open the most often.

The only way to stop this is to add a new entry to about:config:

> to disable the creation of cached thumbnails generally, enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up). right-click somewhere in the page and create a new boolean preference named browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled set to true.

This has been going on since the newtab page was introduced basically. If you set it to be blank the thumbnails are supposed to stop being generated and I believe HTTPS pages aren't allowed to be thumbnailed for obvious reasons.
>>
>>51558186
Where the fuck did you think the thumbnails came from on the new tab page
Christ, man
>>
>>51558186
Firefox stores thumbnails of PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE WEBSITES? Stop the fucking presses, this is heresy of the highest order.

Gotta love how paranoid /g/ constantly is
How's that bald spot coming along worry wart?

It also creates a machine-readable, detailed list of every website you visited!

Panic.
>>
>>51558186
also: FIREFOX SAVES A RECORD OF ALL SITES YOU VISITED, THE HISTORY IS VISIBLE TO ANYONE WHO USES YOUR COMPUTER!
>>
As long as it's not sent/stored remotely who cares? Thumbnails aren't the only thing your browser remembers about all the furry porn sites you've been visiting
>>
I can't find it m8

Ser /g/? This is your fucking work, you made these fucking newfags autistic paranoids.

>>

That's probably because you've set the newtab page to blank using the gear icon in the upper right corner. It used to continue generating thumbnails anyway but Mozilla made it easier to disable.
>>
I want to fuck the firefox fox

Thumbnails only save if you history settings are enabled

/g/ how do I keep the government's prying eyes from my furry sad panada links?

I don't want to share it with them I found them first.

That might be part of it but I cannot seem to get the thumbnails folder to show up on my profile. There's probably a few other conditions.
>>
>>51558441
Usually the "thin end of the wedge" argument applies. But Firefox is so far gone now that even though these things aren't surprising, paranoia doesn't apply.

It only generates them at page load and it doesn't generate thumbnails of https sites. It can apparently be disabled in a number of ways also.
>>
>>51559065
it's for the new tab feature, it's possible to disable it like you can see in op's post. And anyway the screen is not going anywhere
>>
>>51558186
Chrome does this since forever.

>>
>>51558186
Of all things to worry about your privacy, you flip the fuck out over your new tab page showing thumbnails of the websites you most visit

Hasn't this feature been in firefox for fucking forever?
>>
>>51559138
Is that why most of the thumbnails contain partially typed text in form fields or loaded image captcha popups?

Can you even read, motherfucker? I made it clear that I've replaced the new tab page and never used it.
>>
>>51559201
I said that I've unchecked the option to show thumbnails and then replaced it with about:Blank, cocklicker.
>>
>>51558428
Https pages are absolutely getting thumbnailed. I have https everywhere and get the thumbnails just fine. Or unfine, as it really is. They keep being generated even if you set it to blank, too.
>>
>>51559222
It still does it because it's part of the new tab function you retard

Go into your about:config and disable it

>>
Click the gear and set it to blank then restart the browser. Apparently firefox can't stop generating thumbnails until you restart, at least that's what I've found.

The newtab page also requires history and cache to be enabled or it wont work.
>>
Also don't be retarded and set the newtab page to about:blank. That doesn't do anything except hide the page its still running as long as you have it enabled. Set it to a blank page.

I don't care about the content of the thumbnails, I care about the performance loss that comes with creating a thumbnail for each page.

This. If you truly care about privacy your profile directory is already encrypted and this won't be a problem. If it isn't, well then you're just a retard who like to scream about things you don't understand.

the only problem I see is somebody links you to an image on work or outside and it is nsfw and you close it and forget about it

then you open a new tab some day with someone behind you

and gay clop anthro toddler diaper porn shows up as one of the thumbs

I do this with 4chan. Someone just posted a nsfw pic in the OP on /g/, and for this very reason. Personally I don't want to know there's dick pics in my browser's cache.
