If you could choose one closed source software to become open source, what would it be?

Be serious.
Probably either Foobar2000 or Daemon Tools. For all their posturing about being the better image mounter, WinCDEmu still doesn't support multi-track discs, so I'd love to have an open source Daemon Tools.
OS X, so the community could fix the mess that Crapsemite and El Crap are, and revert to the old design.

I am serious. Make Windows free and open-source and there might be some decent forks.
AutoCAD since the alternatives all suck
Premiere. There is literally no good free non linear video editing software.
>>51557583
Good idea, preferably an older version too
>>51557373
Photoshop and the vast majority of home users will no longer have an excuse to stay on windows.
adobe suite
>make widely used piece of software open source
>suddenly 1000 competing forks
>main project lines get taken over by self righteous autists who shoehorn in their own code and fuck up everything
>everything becomes utterly broken
>program dies
>>51557566
iirc xp is open source for research.
>forks
You have a shit load of shitty linux forks. Stick to those.
>>51557683
Didn't know about XP, but it'd be cool to have a real alternive to ReactOS.

Is'nt there reverse engineered fork of Windows by Russians?

Are you guys talking about ReactOS?It hasn't even got out of Alpha state after 2 decades.
The Xbox 360 software
Does that count? Lots of good games I'd like to play on an emulator
>>51557841
Is'nt React OS just Wine/Linux or as I have recently started calling Wine+Linux?
>>51557373
Windows, not because I like it, but because WINE will actually finally work.
>>51557757
Probably, but reverse-engineered/disassembled software =/= open-source

MatLab.This is the only piece of non free software forced down my throat by my teachers. Also maybe Autocad but my syllabus does'nt have mandatory autocad course although new students in my collage has.

Just tell your professors that you are going to use Python.

Thats like replacing a Java with Javascript
The radio/wireless chipset drivers for common Android phones.
It'd be nice if Win7 was open sourced. It should be integrated with Linux so that it has the UNIX file system hierarchy and UNIX line endings, but keeping the same GUI (control panel / task manager and all) and get rid of Windows Registries. This way we won't need WINE and it'd be an easy switch for the avg Win user to migrate to Linux.
>>51557414
Only this.
>>51557373
Matlab. Probably.
>>51557522
I still don´t understand how they managed to fuck this program up that badly.
I was constantly using it arround 2000 and it was awesome.
These days I don´t pirate games anymore because it´s too easy to simply get them for cheap on steam, but the last time I did and wanted to get deamon tools again it had turned into a steaming pile of shit

>>51561018
I would never use Python, but I use Octave all the time. What do you do with Simulink? It looks like it could be useful if you have the FPGA code generator.
