Even more wat?

You can usually use any sound file you like, and it's not like the app stores and shit don't have lots of them for plebs that don't want to use their already stored music / audio files.

Never mind you should have like 20-30 with the phone anyways.
>>
Is the gflex 2 for $250 worth it? I'd prefer the g4 but it's a bit out of my price range. The flex seems to best most other things at the price (Moto g, zenfone, idol 3, one plus x).

Xiaomi mi3 for 130$ here :)
>>
Just to be sure: my new phone comes without a charger, but I can just get any 2 amp charger and it'll work right?
>>
>>51552612

No. Not at all. It's a great phone but it wasn't that much of an upgrade for me.. In some ways it was even worse.. For example the sensor that detects your eye and prevents the screen from going off from the g3 is gone in the g4.. Battery life is worse. Matter of fact the only noticeable upgrade is the camera and even that isn't worth the money
>>
>>51552566
then don't be stupid and have some reason. You perfectly know you don't need an upgrade, but you're tempted by better phones.

protip: whenever you buy any phone, there will always be better one, soon after. always.
>>
>>51552923
>You can usually use any sound file you like
even rtttl? :^(
>>
>>51553133
Nope, not any 2amp charger will work fine with all phones, because most 2amp charging is proprietary standards.

You need to have a correct one for your phone's standard.

Sure, some more expensive chargers are pretty smart about supporting multiple means of non-standard charging (Orico, Tronsmart, Xiaomi, Anker, ... and so on have a bunch) - but most aren't.

[You might still get more than 500mA because sometimes the phones also work with the USB standard charging specifications... but it's overall a bit of a mess.]

Any decent phone deals in Canada? Looking to replace my Samsung s3
>>
Yo /g/ I need guidance. Right now the galaxy s6 edge is on discount, plus you get a samsung vr headset and some urbanears wireless cans. All you need to do is buy the phone on a two year contract.

I have an lg g2 and I don't need a new phone.

How shitty is the edge s6?

How gimmicky is this vr thing?

All you need to sign is a $3000 (or whatever) sale / credit loan type of contract thing, and you can get a smartphone, $100 (retail) worth of overpriced VR glasses, and some crappy overpriced headphones.

Yea, you should totally do this, anon.

On my old iPhone MMS used to be great quality, now it's kind of dogshit, compressed to hell and under 240p quality.
>>
>>51553629
By the way, this is the same concept minus some extra controls. And it's running Google Cardboard rather than the walled garden that is Samsung's VR right now.

$15 shipped from China and more than enough to have some fun with VR. Or just get Google cardboard (or imitations) for $2.

Well it actually isn't as bad as you paint it to be. You pay the price of the phone, 530 euros and the monthly plan costs 25 euros a month. Sure it isn't cheap but there aren't better plan alternatives here.

But yeah, you get locked down for two years.

If the s6 edge was less shit and my g2 wasn't doing great i'd do it.

By the way, you can also get a Doogee X5 for $50 if you're actually poor as fuck. Or the Mi4c (the cheaper edition of the two) for just about 200Eur. Or various deals in between. Many good phones are under 200Eur if you import from China...
>>
Ok so here's the deal.
I need to buy a new phone. I've considered my options and as of right now these are the ones I'm thinking about:

>Samsung S6
It's on sale for ~450$ which is nice. The build quality seems really good, it has a really nice camera, fingerprint scanner, 1440p AMOLED display. I mean there are a lot of things I find really great. The things that worries me is the battery life and the OS. Will Cyanogen come soon to this? If it does that might just settle it.

>Oneplus 2
Build quality seems really nice. Fingerprint scanner. Nice battery. I'm worried about camera quality though.

>Nexus 6p
Well there are only 2 things keeping me from buying this one.
a) The camera bump, which doesn't seem to be that big of a deal, although it triggers me slightly.
b) The price. It's quite a bit more expensive where I live. I just want it to go on sale now on Black Friday but it doesn't seem like it will. Help me choose /g/, which one would you buy and why?
>>
>>51553766
Also, forgot to mention country, I'm in Sweden.
>>
>>51553743
Yea, the basic edition (16GB storage, slightly slower clocked Helio X10) of the Redmi Note 2 is around $130 now.

And the Redmi 2 is probably under $100 somewhere - that one would be the closest match to the Moto G 3, by the way. The other Xiaomi phones I mentioned are much better.
>>
>>51553766
>Build quality seems really nice. Fingerprint scanner. Nice battery.
The upcoming Redmi Note 3 is a cheaper variant with the same.

> I'm worried about camera quality though.
It's not that great, yes. But okay for a P&S style camera.

I think the Sony & Samsung sensors many other -even Chinese- brands use look better, though.

Note 2 even has microSD and replaceable batteries.

That's a bit worrisome yes.
I've got an old Xperia now and I'm used to Sony not giving a shit about phones a year after launch.
At least there are lots of ROMs for Xperia phones, but this one is a rebranded Gionee Marathon M5 so who knows.
Even if it doesn't get 6.0 or lots of custom ROMs at least I should be able to root it.

I have a Galaxy S2 with 4.2 and the Samsung bloatware and it was UNFUCKINbearable to use.
I rooted it a few years later and now have Cyanogen 10 which is nice but the phone is dying.

The Lollipop vs Oxygen will be my decision point because I don't want to get a Moto G and rooted/change OS and fuck it up right away.

Wouldn't recommend the mi4i. Get the mi4c, Note 2 or 3, Mi4, or perhaps even the Redmi 2.

I'd suggest gearbest, geekbuying, antelife, merimobiles, honorbuy, 1949deal or highly rated Aliexpress sellers. There are more, though.
>>
>>51554552
Install TWRP or CWM, run a backup to microSD or external HDD/SSD or something (or copy it there), and you almost can't fuck anything up that much.

And well, the OnePlus X is good, as are the Xiaomi phones I've mentioned in this thread.

As for the two Moto G's - well, it depends on the price. Not a bad device, but I can't see too many reasons to get one of these now.

No, I like the Miui on Xiaomi.

Mi4c (~$250), Redmi Note 2 (~$160), Redmi 2 (~$100)... all for their better editions.

He'll probably like it. Would have bought a Xiaomi from >>51554758 anyways - I did for my relatives and dad, actually. Works fine, cheaper, maybe better in a few ways. The stock apps are *all* pleb-compatible but you can also do almost all the advanced stuff you might want to do (Per app individual permissions & data quotas and connection method restrictions? Sure... since before lollipop, even. Or just pleb mode without that.).

>>51554814
> I are in Belgium. I believe I will pull the trigger on the oneplusX.
I live in Switzerland.

Sure, get that, it's also a good phone.

> I seriously can't be bothered with custome OS etc. I had a horrible time trying to put CYAno and root my S2.
Yea, but it's actually not a problem on any Chinese or otherwise not locked down device that just lets you install TWRP / CWM and then the ROM.

Hell, I don't even need TWRP / CWM on the Xiaomis, they have four ways (including an easy recovery where you can just tell it to flash update.zip) from stock already (okay, one way is duplicate, just their desktop software gui or command line adb).

This shit is extremely easy, and I suggest you prepare TWRP anyways to be able to do full backups.

But it *also* should be easy on the OnePlus X. It's not an argument against it.

2) any bloatware 'art/fun' apps that you can't uninstall?

3) Do you have to connect and sync the phone with google like on the Galaxies when you first turn it on?

>Battery?
I get 3hrs Screen on Time with heavy load on a gaming day. At the end of a light college day, I have like, 75% in the battery? At a heavy one I had 20, but I used the battery saver to listen to some music on my commute back. (heavy day lasted from 9am to 3pm) I charge every night, it is essentially normal nowadays. The battery I would consider above average.

>Bloat?
Nah son. Nothing. I disabled some Gapps but that's it. Oxygen is clean like that. The OnePlus Radio is a little pointless but it ain't bloat.

>connect and sync the phone with google
I think this is essentially standard if you want to use Google Play services. It's not cumbersome or anything light that for me, I wasn't deliberately given a sync option for contacts or anything. Some find it useful, but I have little contacts on my phone anyway.

>OS updates?
It has been receiving OTA's for quite a bit, and has received a recent one to amend SD card issues. (sd card not being readable unless formatted to NTFS, not being able to move apps to sd, etc)

>support?
Some people say it's kinda shitty. I wouldn't know much about it.

You could opt for a different chinkphone for 2-3 years, but this is a good choice as of right now and has Snapdragon as opposed to Mediatek.

No particular reasons I just do not know what's out these days.
I am still using an original HTC desire from light years ago, with one of these latest ROM effort to keep the device relatively up to date.

I'd like a phone with an active hacking/modding community like the original desire was so that I know that I can count on a good lifespan.

That's why thought the Moto G was a good option given its active community (no idea about the other phones I was suggested, need to look into that)

Not sure how long the life span on the $55 Doogee will be (arguably, at $55, it might be more acceptable to be shorter, no?).

But Xiaomi itself has been decently supporting their phones for a long time, 4+ years. Shouldn't be too much a problem on that end.

I'd actually suggest to keep it with the Redmi 2 2GB only, unless you need to be very conservative with your money.

Sure, the 1GB phones work okay, but you have like 350MB RAM free with the standard ROM.

Not terribly much, depending on how many fat apps you run as service. Sure, you can use custom ROMs and get more RAM, but that's less fun. And you probably can spare the ~$100 to get a 2GB RAM Redmi 2, right?
>>

> Xiaomi redmi note 3, Xiaomi mi4c and Oneplus x
Also the Redmi Note 2.

The Note3 has a 3GB variant, a bigger battery, is flatter and has a fingerprint scanner and metal body (not like plastic is bad, but some people prefer that). But apparently they also made the battery non-removable in the process and don't have a microSD slot anymore either.

> How is the support and updating to android 6 of Xiaomi?
Right now -which is a few days after the release of Android 6-, there are a bunch of community hacked AOSP ROMs for a bunch of their more popular phones.

MIUI's large suite (which also hooks into security features and stuff) usually takes a while to be ported. It usually took in the order of some months for most devices.
Updates to MIUI itself generally happen weekly for newer devices.
>>
Why do phones cost much more in big/popular stores than in many small ones? Do the small ones try to scam you with shitty batteries or something or are the big stores just trying to get more money relying on their name?
>>
>>51552413
I need to buy a new phone and I'm willing to spend around 200 euros. I 'm not really up to date with the new stuff... I 'm cosidering the Galaxy J5. It looks fine until you find out that it has only 8GB internal storage of which only 4 of them are available for the user and this really sucks.
What do you guys recommend?

Yes as long as you are fine with no mSD card and no removable battery, in pure specs the note5 is still after 3 months the top android phone.
>>
>>51557504
Yes. For most people the specs will however more like, bring their phone from 4x overpowered (cheap midrange phone) and thus idling to 8x overpowered and thus idling more - on maximum load.

Apart from running certain emulators (or Gentoo, for the heck of it) and a select very few games, I can't really think anything you'll want to do with that phone's processing power right now.

Probably more things will use the processing power in 1-2 years, but as things go, this phone will again be like, midrange by then.

So i just picked up a G3 at a good price today and there's one tiny thing that is bothering me.

All the outlines of icons / text seem to have a miniscule but detectable contrasting outline around them. the edge is a meme, seriously I have mainly heard complaints about it, a few people do seem to really like it, but everyone else complains about how it is hard to hold in the hand, and just generally useless outside of looking interesting and cool.

Currently on a Samsung Galaxy S4 on VZW. Any current Gen phones with MicroSD, removable battery that are worth upgrading to that support custom ROMs?
>>
>>51557981
Yes, it is one of the best phones currently out. Again, the only real issue being the lack of mSD card storage, and the non-removable battery. US versions also have a locked bootloader, but this isn't really anything new for 2015 sadly.

If those things don't scare you away however, the note5 is the most powerful device currently out, has the best screen of any device currently out, and will work with the GearVR headset.
>>
>>51558025
How is the speaker of the Note 5?
>>
>>51558073
Could be better, its run of the mill average.

Speakers on smartphones aren't important to me at all, i can count on 1 hand the number of times I have used the speaker. If you want to use speakers i'd recommend a portable set as it will provide much better quality than the built in speaker.

That being said the note5 has one of the best amp/DACs in a phone for headphone listening, so it provides a great experience with headphones.

seriously tempted to get the Oneplus X, love its design and it's cheap and i really need a new phone since my Nexus 5 is breaking down: powerbutton doesn't work properly anymore, sometimes gets double pressed or is stuck. plus it took quite some hits so it looks damaged.

I watched some reviews about the Oneplus X and i don't know if I was mistaking but it looks rather laggy, way worse than my Nexus 5. is this even possible /g/? can it really be so poorly optimized? after all, its processor should be capable of more than what my Nexus 5 is capable of.

here in germany it's a law where they must give 2 year warranty on their products, first 6 months the manufacturer must prove that the customer is at fault. and first 2 weeks after purchase you can send your purchase back just like that because you don't like it, that's a law too.

yeah doesnt really help me though. i just checked oneplus policy and legal and blaaaaa and i read something about "individual customer contracts exclude warranty" or shit like that. so basically they can make a special contract for everyone so you have no warranty? seems shady as fuck m8. i guess when you really have a problem with your phone you're fucked.

I'm not a pseudo technology literaly androidkiddie like alot of faggots here on /g/ are (installing a custom rom doesnt make you literate) so i know what's up. another way to decrease costs (which oneplus apperently uses, judging by the big differences between some individual devices) is to increase the tolerance for production parts.... so some people get a really shitty tinted screen and a crappy RAM which will break in 5 weeks (which you wont notice right away cuz u will just get random freezes and think it's the software) whereas others win the lottery and their device runs for 2 years. really that's what makes alot of the price. you want quality you gotta throw half of the screens into the trash.
or sell the shitty half to oneplus for cheap
but then i read that there were problems even with simple shit like SD card. you know samshit couldn't pull that off because they'd lose their rep.

just a conspiracy but i think that's what the invite system is for in the first place. they are trying to select people which are likely to not complain as much or use workarounds and put trust into the company so that oneplus is less likely to get additional costs because unlike some pleb who will complain and demand warranty when his phone doesnt work properly, those self proclaimed technology literate folks will rather wait for a software update or even install a custom rom. nigga please, if i sell you some half assed shit for the full price and it doesnt work properly, would you kek yourself by fixing it rather than taking that shit back to me and demanding your money back? i really dont understand those people. probably the smurtphone industry is in with this and they done propaganda and brainwashing to make the people dont even consider getting their money back or not even buying the phone. nigga you pay for the software too. those aren't custom built desktop PCs.

OPX user here.
Liking mine quite a bit so far, not a lot of gripes. It's not perfect, but it gets way too much slack for what it is.
Stay noided.

To anyone who owns an LG G4, does the screen have a distracting bluish tint like some reviewers say or is it only noticable when you put it side by side with like an S6? Does it come with settings to fix colour temperatures manually?

Basically the only thing keeping me from completing my purchase at this point.
>>
Was the Nexus 6 brand new for $200? If so then fuck I missed a good deal.
>>
I'm looking for a smartphone where I have the most possibilities to change. Like menu interface and stuff like that. It should have a good camera, better than iPhone 4s for instance. I'm also a poorfag. Could you guys help me out, I'm sitting on a HTC Desire LCD and it's painfully shitty. I had an iPhone 4s before. Yes I was stupid enough to buy an iphone. I hated the iPhone for lacking influence over the settings. So I'm looking for a Smartphone where I am able to change settings as I want. 170$ is maximum for me. As I said I'm as poorfaggotory as they come. Am I looking for a fairy tale phone, or is there something out there that meets my expectations?

Maybe they will have something in Cybermonday.
>>
Huawei P8 any good? I can get it from a friend for cheap.
>>
>>51560829
>it's not perfect
pls list all imperfections then, as I'm considering getting one too. have you ever used a nexus 5? how does it compare performance wise?? from the videos I've seen it seems to perform worse (more lag/less framerate) than my nexus 5 for whatever reason ._.
>>
>>51560877
Go see if you can make do with the Redmi 2 2GB or Redmi Note 2.

Though I'd think even a Doogee with like, Nova launcher or Cyanogenmod or whatever might meet your requirements.
>>
What is the general consensus on the BB Classic?
>>
What do you guys even DO with your phones?

I buy flagships just to text.

The Xiaomi shills in here is fucking out of the roof
>>
>>51560749
How is it?
>>
>>51561266
- Playing music files
- Communication - email, sms, phone calls, xmpp chats
- Looking up information
- Navigation & public transport itineraries
- Surprisingly many product photos and document "scans"
- Remote control of standalone camera
- Postal package tracking
- Japanese girl groping games
>>
>>51561156
The Doogee sounds interesting. Which one would meet my requirements the best? There are quite a few of them.

Only newfags would ever take these recommendations seriously
>>
>>51561414
Pretty much, newfags and poorfags who cant buy a decent non-chink device.

No one will argue that they aren't good performance for the cost, because they are very much so. HOWEVER they are still pieces of shit, and they feel like it. At least compared to an actual flagship device like the LG G4 or Galaxy S6, Moto X pure, etc.

>it's not perfect
By that I mean, it has an 801 (at least it's not Mediatek, eh?), it has a mediocre camera that falls flat on it's face in low light, it has a non-modular battery (you cannot get to the back in any way, it's glued on, at least with the OP2 you could take shit off and unscrew it to get to the battery). Speakers also sound like crap in terms of dynamics and treble. Headphone output and DAC is A-OK.

The performance is decently consistent, but it's not anything too breathtaking. I don't use the phone for much demanding tasks consistently, and it suits me well.

Oxygen is clean, although has some quibbles in terms of lack of customization and some bugs that are slowly being ironed out through OTA's. (including lacking of an options menu where the capacitive buttons are supposedly customizable. there are some SD card issues but that's being ironed out in the latest OTA.)

cont cause spam filter..
>>
I put a deposit on a Z3 Compact at a terrorist second-hand shop. Any oddities that I should expect which still haven't been ironed out? Also, how's the modding community for it now?
>>
>>51561266
- communicate via mostly whatsapp, occasional calls and texts
- browse the internet (/4chan) during lectures and while taking a shit
- check the weather
- occasional calendar usage for appointments
That's about it
That's why I buy sub €200 phones
>>
>>51561453
Yeah exactly. I mean they're cheap and they do have good performance, but if I'm gonna spend money on something I'll use everyday, I want it to be premium.
>>
>>51561113
cont...
It's a poor man's Cyanogen. Quick, clean and bloatless, just without most of the customization. It's more or less stock.

My advice? Possibly keep your Nexus, clean it out and that and put a fresh ROM on it. For how long have you had it? I'd consider changing phones in about it's second or third year in, but I only had experience with a chinkphone (ZOPO C2).

Listen to music (mostly), browse 4chins, talk with friends, browse web, play the odd game.

As you'd expect from the price, the $160-170 Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Advanced edition. it has the best camera and performance of the phones mentioned. Maybe you can make do with the $155 edition, too.

I know the ~$100-120 Redmi 2 2GB's camera and build quality is quite nice, should probably also meet your needs.

Absolutely not an exhaustive list, though - browse some Chinese stores, eh.

>>51561533
Thanks dude. I think I could invest a few dollars more, I don't usually change my phone that often so it'll do.
>>
>>51561476
>MUH SPECS
still don't know why you would need more than a snapdragon 800. really i checked the xperia z5 compact for example and it performed worse than my nexus 5 despite having a 720p display and snapdragon 810. i think the oneplus x is poorly optimized despite having vanilly like android. it's evident in alot of review videos.

>>51561516
fresh rom on it? you dont mean a custom rom or do you? i hate custom roms, they're a pain in the ass. i just want to stay with stock, fuck all the gimmicky customizations. i tried alot of custom roms on my S2. had my nexus 5 since 2 years now, really the only problem is that the stupid powerbutton doesnt work properly anymore.
and wtf you mean "changing phones"... it's not on contract or smnthn.

or mby i should just buy a new power button. but then again my phone already looks like crap from all the drops so might as well get a new one

what about the Oneplus X screen? i heard it's absolute garbage. severe blue tint.

I never had a Xiaomi: The post.

Actual manufacturing quality is iPhone-tier - without bending issues.

Wow, such huge difference:

Oh wait, it's mostly shit you pretty much can't see (4xx->5xx PPI), and the brand name.
>>

>I never had a Xiaomi: The post.
nice try, but I have had a redmi note2, and its basically the same shit.

It all feels cheap and shitty, buttons aren't as clicky, etc.

Stop shilling for chink phones you dumb poor nigger.

>absolute garbage
It's AMOLED, just with a cold tint. Not garbage, christ.

Why the fuck did you buy a Nexus if you're not going to put on Custom ROMs, or at least Cyanogen? Fuck man.

And I meant upgrade, not change.

you're the type of cancer i was talking about in my posts earlier.

>Why the fuck did you buy a Nexus if you're not going to put on Custom ROMs, or at least Cyanogen? Fuck man.
because personally i dont need the additional features guys like samsung, LG and so on put on their phones, i wanted a close to stock experience because i actuaLLY like stock android since I already tried cyanogen and severeal other custom roms on my S2, i pretty much ran my S2 almost exclusively on custom roms.

but nowadays i think all those features which cyanogenmod or other custom roms have to offer are gimmicks. i dont need to customize my toggles or a bit better battery life. i dont care if i have that default battery icon or a percentage or circle or something. back then when I had my S2 i loved it but at some point i didn't give a fuck anymore. i sort of "grew out of it". and i cant be assed to deal with custom roms anymore. downloading updates and shit and flashing it in the first place. i have more important stuff to do. was fun and all on my S2 but it got boring after 2 years.
