Quick question, which of the two portable HDD is the wiser choice?
In termes of longer life.(durability)
>seagote

WD and Seagate are both garbage. Buy an enclosure and stick a Toshiba in there.
Seagate is shit. WD is less shit. The WD is slower, but probably won't fail on you before the Seagate would.

WD hasn't been the same since the floods in 2011.

Thanks a bundle, Im not really into buying an encloser, so Im thinking to buy this Toshiba, I hope it is wise choice.
So everybody are for the Toshiba?
I have 5 of the WD ones, reliable as fuck, fast transfers, would recommend
seagate > wd
90% of the dead drives i see are wd or those shitt hgst ones
computer repairs
I own 3 Seagate externals: 1x 5TB, 2x 4TB. All 3 work perfectly fine without a flaw and haven't shat the bed yet. I only use them for archiving large files so they don't get much wear and tear.
I have 1x 1.5TB external from WD and it hasn't shat the bed either. Has seen more use than the Seagate drives.
I also used to have a Seagate internal, but trashed it after 10 years because it was just too damn slow compared to SSDs. Fucker could have gone another 10 years if I kept it.
You guys kinda tripled my mind...
Which to pick?
WD
Seagate
or
Toshiba?

I'm pretty fucking sure you should buy a Hitachi.
>>51555263
Hitachi/HGST stuff is hard to find in a lot of countries, and they don't sell directly to consumers.
>>51552302
The Seagate can be removed from the case and used as a regular 2.5" HDD because there is a SATA to USB converter in the case, the WD is USB only.
That alone gives the Seagate better value imho.
>>51552302
Have Hitachi Touro 2.5 external for few years running 24/7 and it's still working ok.

This guy speaks the truth. WD portables are "frankendrives": they have direct to USB motherboards and not SATA ones and if something goes wrong you're boned because you can't hook up the drive to a computer yourself and you can't switch motherboards either because of encryption.
But other than that just get the one that's on sale at the time youre buying.
>>51552302
Did you really need to post that picture as a huge 3 plus meg file?

What about this guy >>51555375
Doe he speaks the truth?

>WD portables are "frankendrives": they have direct to USB motherboards and not SATA ones
Isn't this only a case for a select few of them?
>>51557702
Same is what I like to know, more specially for the WD Elements 2 TB
>>51552384
I find the opposite is true. I work part-time in a computer repair shop, and about 70% of the dead laptop drives we see are WD, even though there is roughly an even split between WD and Seagate.
I think >>51552432 may have a point. I remember years ago when I first started high school, Seagate had some major reliability issues and WD was good. Now it seems like they've switched spots, but nobody will let the old Seagate 1TB meme die.

Why does OP, always have to be a faggat ;/
Buy a Maxtor drive OP. Hands down the best.
Not really. You should seriously buy a WD ir Toshiba 2.5" drive and just stick it in a decent $15 usb 3.0 enclosure. If the connector on the enclosure ever goes bad (because they often do), you can just move the drive to another enclosure or put it in your pc as an internal drive so you can get your files off of it.
I've been using a 5TB external Seagate drive for a year now. It hasn't crapped out on me yet.

t. Shitgate Shill
I've had only western digital. never had any serous fault never lost data. twice in a decade I had to send them home and they speed me a new one for free. but even during a problems it was still readable so I I could still back it up.
in the end I say go for what you think is best. and I think it's wd.
