Apparently it's a known issue with that particular drive, too. For the record, it's a 16GB Cruzer Edge, pic related.
It was kind of a bummer, but oh well. 16GB flash drives aren't exactly expensive, so I just went and bought a new one, went with Kingston this time.

Live and learn mayne. I had the same thing happen to me years ago, and now I exclusively use flash drives for TEMPORARY storage. Everything is usually backed up on one or two hard drives. Some times I even email shit to myself just in case the drive fail in between work and home.
