Im not sure about the i7 but the i5 6600k was about a 10% increase from last gen i believe. Mostly i would do it for the upgrade path instead of buying last gen hardware. Thats only if you dont mind paying the premium for the mobo and ddr4 which isnt too much price difference.

Not OP, but I was thinking of doing a build with the Fury X, but I really doubt you can make a build with 1.2k while including a good skyland CPU, unless you can prove me wrong(please prove me wrong)

Well the i5 6600k is the next gen version of the 4690k i think. Both are good cpus with quite a bit of overclocking headroom.

Youll need to get an lga 1151 mobo. The chipset right now that youll probably want is z170. There is a premium on them right now but its not really that much. Youre just paying for next gen. Youll also have to use ddr4 ram which is a little more expensive(like $30-40).
