In your opinion /g/uys what is the best around 200 USD laptop around out there for Black Friday sales?
>>
Fry's had some odd-lease ChinkPad T4X0 on sale for like $217 the other day. They should do a similar price or better tomorrow if they have any left. Those things would thoroughly kick the ass of any dual-core Celeron you'll find at that price point.

Err...off-lease.
>>
Thanks, I'll keep an eye out. Any others?
>>
Go to a café, pick someone's Macbook up.

When he begs you to give it back, you say "no".

Sell it on craigslist and repeat until you afford the laptop you want.

Bestbuy has acer cb3 chromebooks for 99$

Specs in pic

Theyre selling the older ones though, which has a 2.6ghz celeron instead of a 2.16ghz, which is nice

You can use crouton to install Linux or you can flash it, install SeaBios and use it without having ChromeOS on it, but chromeOS is pretty dank

Damn, sold out as soon as you posted.

There are some refurbished Dell E6420s on newegg.
They're on sale like every month anyways, not sure if black friday will be anything special for them as they're typically 3rd party sellers.
Always check the reviews for the 3rd party seller.
You can usually add a 1 year extended replacement warranty for like $90, but that's up to you; try to find a laptop that automatically comes with at least 1 year of warranty (don't fall for that 90 day bullshit)
You may not like them because they're a little on the heavy side, but I consider them some of the best portable computing power for the price (i.e. higher value).
I ordered one for a relative, reformatted and re-installed windows 7 (I don't trust that it's done correctly; ALWAYS do a full-reformat instead of a quick one before you install your OS), and installed all the necessary programs.
They've been using it without any problems for over a year now, but as with any refurb it's probably hit-or-miss.
I'd recommend going for the SSD version; you don't want moving parts in portable devices anyways.

Is this thing shit? http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/689837/Lenovo-Ideapad-100s-Chromebook-With-116/

Its a chromebook with lenovo build quality, theyre pretty fucking fantastic, id love to get one one day.

I didnt even notice, i bought two at like 5am today, i apologize, i should have shared.

No problem. Is this thing worth it? Am I pushing it too far to try to do better? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834298787&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=E6420-_-34-298-787-_-Product

For some reason newegg sometimes sells the same model for different prices

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834299203&cm_re=Dell_E6420-_-34-299-203-_-Product
vs
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA77G3C36043&cm_re=Dell_E6420-_-34-298-133-_-Product
Notice the "B grade" one is sold for more.
Also notice that the non-B grade one has a 1 year while the B grade one has only 90 days of warranty.
It's just odd.
>>
>>51540436
Just curious, why'd you pick the computers you did when the chromebook I linked to was for sale?
>>
>>51540451
You probably want an SSD for portable devices.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006740%20600003982%208000%20600003988%20600423156%20600423157%20600425161%20600423158%20600423159&IsNodeId=1&Description=Dell%20E6420&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=30

Try using that search criteria.
The first one listed under that has a 1 year warranty and is shipped and sold by newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834299781

An important thing to note is that even though the E6420 traditionally comes with an NVIDIA card, these refurbs do not. The Intel CPU handles the graphics & that's why I'd recommend the i7.
I don't think you can get a replacement for that video card partially because no one sells the fucking things.

Lastly, remember to do a full reformat on the hard drive. You'll need to have a means for deploying the OS of your choice ready when you do that (if you're sticking with windows 7 pro,
http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-install-windows-7vista-from-usb-drive-detailed-100-working-guide/
Shift+f10 when you boot from the usb will bring up command prompt. After that
diskpart
list disk

Now make sure you select the correct disk; if you're using GPT, you'd be doing list volume, then select volume.
If you want to start using GPT, input "convert gpt" first, then create a volume and select the new volume.

select disk 1
clean
create partition primary size=200
format fs=ntfs
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs

I can't remember if you have to do an "assign".
The first partition MUST be 4kb; this is where your boot sector will be.
The second partition should take up the rest of your hard drive space.
If you want 64kb cluster size on the windows drive, just do
format fs=ntfs unit=64k
ON THE SECOND PARTITION.

Then select the larger partition from the windows installer and it should work.
Don't mark any partition as "active" while doing this (if you did so accidentally, mark it inactive).

>>51540756
these are £150 or less on eBay in the UK, bought mine for £179 a while back
>>
>>51540756
>The first partition MUST be 4kb; this is where your boot sector will be.
Sorry, by this I mean the first partition must have 4k cluster size (the default for windows), because that's where the boot sector will be.
Also 200mb is plenty of space for it; it takes up a little over 100mb so allocating any more is just a waste.
>>
>>51540784
Do they have a 1 year warranty?
I would be very wary of buying any used computer or computer parts without at least 1 year of warranty

Theyre the best choice of chromebook in their price range, best processor, best quality SSD, acer makes well built computers, its the lightest chromebook with the longest battery life that you can get brand new for 150-200$.

Past that price, the only better one is the /g/ approved best chromebook, the Acer C720.

I bought the two because i wanted one for a project where im going to try and put windows vista on it, and the other one is gift for my mom who needs something to use office applications on.
>>
>>51541111
God that computer looks tempting.

>>51540451
Ive personally always had issues with those older work laptop latitudes, they all come from offices and are refurbished to relatively new conditions, but in offices theyre used constantly, every day. Theres always issues with it just being worn out in general, damage from getting too hot too often, worn out slowed down hard drives and problems with an aging screen.

Those laptops are fantastic brand new and last forever with _normal_ use, but an office work environment really taxes them over time.

However, for its price, thats a pretty good deal, just be prepared to have to replace the hard drive, fan/heatsink after a year or two.
