you can easy oc 390 to 390x level and above.
actualy many 390 are easy flashable to 390x (flash new bios and you have a 390x for the price of a 390 and still can oc it)

Clock for clock the 780 is faster, but the 970 can generally go 250-300MHz higher, uses a lot less power and has .5GB extra VRAM. The 780 is a better deal if you can find one significantly cheaper though.
