Is there any difference between using Displayport or DVI?

Is there any difference between using Displayport or DVI?

Display Port supports sound if used with HDMI, DVI to HDMI doesn't carry sound.

So if my monitor doesn't have sound, runs at 60Hz, and only displays 1920x1200, there's no point in changing the cable?

DVI-D does though

No point

Are the cables more sturdy and thinner for Displayport? My DVI cables have some serious weight to them.

but it does

The cables are different

Only displayport supports freesync g-sync, 144hz 1440p.

If you don't need any of that there is no difference aside from the fact displayport as a nice locking mechanism.

DisplayPort supports higher resolutions and refresh rates.

For anything 1920x1200@60hz and lower, there is no difference in image quality.

DisplayPort supports sound. DVI does not.

Displayport is better in every way.

That should be the magnetic shield (see on top of pic) also the screws add some weight. Since they can be bolted, yes they get sturdier then just connecting a hdmi or display port.
Dvi displays either sound or no sound at 60hz for single link (most regular cables) or up to 120hz in dual link but can reach 144hz. Display port is for higher bandwith and you can daisy chaining.

Dvi does not output sound? stop being an idiot spreading incorrect information.

yes, DP has very lovely feature that DVI/HDMI lacks. When you have your monitor connected vie DP and you turn the monitor off, it will disconnects from your system completely. moving all your windows to second monitor or just fucking up your windows position. stick to the DVI
