Bought this guy for 180 with supposedly 30 dollar rebate, gotta send it back because the light bleed on the corner is unbearable. Let's discuss good monitors to buy and why.
Will post more pics of this guy. It's an ASUS VC279H that newegg has been shilling.
It's also blurry as hell, blurrier than my old ass cheap 40" 1080p tv. I think it has something to do with their "vividpixel" feature.

i know right? I went from some old ass 4:3 monitors (seen behind the ips panel) and i'm seriously not impressed. Maybe because it was a budget monitor idk. another shot:
>>
>>51536638
got a tn panel myself. literally the cheapest LG i could find. Has a little bleed next to the edges on the left side, but nothing that can compare to this.
>>
>>51536719
I have two 4:3 old ass monitors and a tv and the only thing better about this new monitor is the colors. It is definitely more color accurate. BUT it's blurry and bleeds!
ALSO I didn't mention this earlier, their calibration profile you can download on their website does not work...
>>
Should have gone with the DELL ultrasharp 2414. Yeah it's only 1080 and not 144hz but it's QUALITY
>>
>>51536756
I am probably getting one of those actually. It seems like my monitor is a cheap knockoff of the ultrasharp, hell even the OSD menu is a copy. I don't even want 144HZ I have 2 gtx660s in SLI lol I can barely do 1080p 60hz
>>
Actually I thought it was one of those RoG. Yeah the DELL u2414 is better deal only 20$ more. Only downside is 24 inch
>>
>>51536782
>>51536782
I wish I could afford the 2515H because muh crisp 1440p but it's so expensive...
>>

Yeah. Don't know how you want your setup but I got myself two 2414s and next year when 2515 is cheaper I'll get it to complete three monitor setup

Just remember the 2414 were near 400 a pop a year ago
>>
>>51536830
You think I should sell my two gtx 660s on ebay and buy a better single card? They can run most things at 60fps 1080p maxed out except for textures cause they only have 2gb vram...

G-Sync IPS costs so much. I got nVidia card but damn I couldn't afford 600-700 for IPS G-Sync.
>>
Would I be better off getting a large monitor (that has hdmi input) or a TV (capable of 4k) for my display? I need both in one due to lack of room space.

The BenQ BL3200PT 60Hz 32.0" Monitor is the one I am currently considering.

I am building a new gaming pc, looking to drop around 300-500 on a monitor. I am going to have to wall mount it due to lack of space, how will a BenQ XL2720Z or Asus VG278HE monitor hold up?
>>
>>51538891
I can't honestly say which one is a better screen.

I don't know about 1080p on 27" monitor either.
>>
>>51538962
I am trying to go for a largerish monitor due to having to wall mount it (I have a room to small for a desk because of other shit in it). It holds up well on my current pos tv that is almost the same size when I run consoles at 1080p so I think it will be fine.

Should I scale down to just a 24"? I am going to be changing my TV mount to a monitor mount with an arm that extends outward so that might mitigate my worries about screen size (my current TV is about 24" anyways).

are you playing with gaymen competitively like on a daily basis(TN with 1ms refresh 144hz)? if not, get an IPS every time.
>>
>>51539171
I kinda want one too but they all seem to have horrible lightbleed.
>>
So best buy has an LG 29" IPS (29UM57) that will be on sale for $200. Any better deals out there or should I go for this one?

im after a 1440p 120-144hz screen

is it worth just getting a rog swift? really cant be arsed with playing the lottery with an IPS panel
>>
>>51540424
I'm looking at the DELL S2716DG right now, it is really tempting.
>>
>>51540424

The panel lottery is not worth it right now.

Amazon will have the Acer XB270HU bprz for 40% off tomorrow, which brings it down to $420ish. If you're willing to gamble a little, buy that and see how it goes. The panels used in both the Acer and the ASUS are the exact same AU IPS panel.

What is a good affordable colorimeter?
Don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about those.
>>
>>51541195
Spyder 4 or Spyder 5. You can use ArgyllCMS + dispcalGUI as the free opensource software for calibration, which is better than the one Spyder ships the unit with.

Be aware, your calibration is inherently limited to the fidelity of your measuring device. Colorimeters are inherently worse than much more expensive Spectrophotometers (except in determining contrast).

Still, a $100 calibration device you can use across multiple devices will set you up better than just using no calibration at all.
>>
>>51538191

It's a lottery. You could go the store and see one on display thaqt works perfectly (because of course they wouldn't put the bad ones on display), then you buy ut and you get five tons of bleed
>>
Is LG good? Or should I expect any €120 IPS to be garbage?
>>
>>51541866
If GPUs are silicon lottery.

IPS screens are panel lottery.

You will know when you get it.
>>
>>51537283
I am very interested in this as well. The reviews scare me but it may just be the people with issues are the most vocal.

1440p 144hz IPS seems like a sweet spot. I have a pair of 770's now, just started paying attention to graphics cards again to see what 100+ fps at 1440 takes.
>>
>>51542021
I have been asking about MG279Q in here for a week but nobody seems to own such display in /g/.
>>
>>51541912

Is IPS really worth it though?
>>
>>51541550
What about this? Half the price.
http://www.amazon.com/X-Rite-CMUNSML-ColorMunki-Smile/dp/B009APMNB0

It doesn't measure light, but it doesn't really matter because I use track lighting so it's always a different brightness in here.
>>
>>51543574
You don't need to measure ambient light anyways. I always calibrate to 6500k white point temperature and 120cdm brightness.

I have no experience with Colormunki colorimeters.

It's apparently supported by Argyll CMS apparently:
http://www.argyllcms.com/doc/instruments.html

I watched this video to understand how to use dispcal GUI and Argyll CMS. Note, you need to download both. Dispcal GUI is just a frontend GUI for Argyll CMS which makes Argyll CMS easier to use.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uDPEPQ8H2g

Another note is that changing RGB values away from the default 100,100,100 on your monitor (when calibrating white point temperature) has a tendency to crush contrast ratio. I have a very blue hued CCFL TN panel which after calibration got to a shitty ~300:1 contrast ratio. Even ~1000:1 is just borderline standard these days.

High contrast panels (read: VA) are pretty rare.
>>
Are there any consumer monitors that are a bit smaller than average and preferably with a square ratio?
15 inch seems to be the limit but I could really use something a bit more compact.
>>

The BenQ XL2411Z just got on sale here

I currently have a Samsung S24B300, which I was planning to move to secondary position and then use the BenQ as primary

Is this a good idea or a downgrade? The BenQ is a TN panel, which I don't think I've ever used

Been looking for a second monitor for the better part of a year now. I want it beside my main one to be used for writing documents, browsing web, programming but I can't find one for a reasonable price that fits my criteria which are:
>~$200 Canadian
>MUST pivot, doesn't matter how easy it is to change the layout but it will be in vertical most of the time
>1080 or 1200p @24inch

that's basically it, finding those specs on a monitor aren't hard except the fucking pivot which has been driving me crazy. As soon as I find an equivalent with pivot the price jumps from 200 to 300 or 500, it's infuriating. Also I can't get a mounting bracket because my desk is fucking thick and attached to the wall.

Anyone know of any monitors that fit my spec?
>>
I have two Asus VS247 2ms with 60hz. Very minor black bleed on the sides.
>>
>51539264
I ordered it earlier today. For $200 it's going to be a bargain even with some minor deficiencies. The Amazon page for it has over 100 reviews and it's still 4/5. The top review says the view angles are almost as good as IPS. Although i doubt that, if it's bareable I'll be fine anyway.

>Asus PB278Q - 2560x1440 / IPS / 60HZ / 5ms

We have a few LG IPS screens at work. Colors seem ok, but there is banding and the brightness is quite low. Budget IPS doesn't work. You want to buy IPS for good viewing angles and colors, but budget IPS almost equals shitty polarizers or other cuts.
