Lol you Ramdisk noobs.

Heres what you do, you dont turn your shit ram into a harddrive. you turn your SSD into Raid 0 then make them into virtual ram.

330GB of ram allmost as fast as my pys ram.
>>
>>51530369
bait or too retarded to realize that ram is much faster than 1k MB/s write and read
>>
>>51530496
also write cycles
>>
>>51530369
>allmost as fast as pys ram
DDR4-2133 has a peak throughput of around 17000 MB/s
>>
>>51530496

no you fail to understand, with this much ram you get the full use of your multicore cpu, since you can load data. the speed is not that important, but its like what 1/3 of the speed of a normal ram chip. but if you multiply it with the amount of cores in your cpu it becomes much more powerfull.
>>
>>51530536
Didn't notice you had DDR3-1333. That has a max throughput of around 10000 MB/s.
>>
>>51530570
Do you understand how caching and memory buses works? You've basically made a massive swap disk.

well, that was the idea, but to make a fast swap disk.

heres my speed test on my ram.
>>
>>51530660
slowest ass ram, even then it's still THREE TIMES faster than ssd.
>>
>>51530705

but i get 20 times more ram for the same price
>>

why?

Unless that shit's from 1996 they your ram's fucking slow m8

might catch someone

1GBps is absolute dogshit.
especially compared to modern RAM.
>>
>>51530881
If (1GB/s) is "allmost as fast as my pys ram" then "your ram (which is < (2x(1GB/s)))'s fucking slow m8"
>>
Your average SSD is at least 10 times slower than your ram, pretty dumb this idea of yours OP, I'm sure you can find smth else to come here and try to get some self-esteem by flexing it.
>>
>>51530369
>RAID 0
enjoy still being bottlenecked by the slow ass SATA bus and losing everything when whatever shitty SSD you cheaper out on eventually eats shit
>>
>>51530369
That's not even as fast as DDR3, also the latency must be mounstrosly high
That's without even considering wear in the SSD's
Holy shit just gb2/v/
>>
>>51531016

a normal ssd will be able to handel 3petabytes of data easy. thats close to 1 terabyte everyday for 10 years. on top of that you got 5 year warranty on the drive it self. its impossible to brake. and if you do you get a new one.
>>
>>51530369
You fucking moron you obviously have no idea about memory management. First of all RAM is way faster, not only in terms of transfer rate which is more than 20k mb in dual channel for ddr3 1333 but also in terms of latency. Second of all your cpu won't be able to prefetch from your fucking virtual ram which makes it even slower.

>>51531195

that might be true for singel core.

but when you use 8 cores. and each core write to the ram, you start getting issues.

but when you use virtual ram, you page ram and the cpu cores wont over page each other on the ram, since you have such a massive amount. the important thing is to feed the cpu with data, not make it que your ram into a waiting line. if you had any idea on how a modern Cpu bus system worked, you would understand this.
>>
>>51531253
Are you stupid or something? Do you even know how caching works? Do you know what a fucking MMU is? Your virtual RAM is useless here
>>
>>51531253
You don't have any idea of what you're talking about, most multi threaded workloads aren't that memory intensive to get performance improvements from more memory, even then just using more ram instead of a fuckcluster of raid0 SSD's would be a much better improvement
That's not even considering latency, the massive latency from a SSD would hurt much more the system performance than having a smaller much faster memory
>>
>>51531253
>when you use 8 cores. and each core write to the ram, you start getting issues.
Wtf are you talking about? That's what hypertransport/quick path interconnect are there for
>>
>>51531297
>MMU

you are wrong, the hypervisor intervenes in the I/O operation and nullefines the delay.
>>
>>51531253
Do you think the memory lane just magically creates itself on your motherboard when you plug in more data? Wtf?
>>
>>51531447
Yes, you have no idea about what you're talking about
>>

>>

Run 20 VM's at once, or just something with 20GB ram usage.
I wanna see what happens.
>>
>>51531986

lol more like 120bux for 3 x 120gb ssd
>>
Your performance will nosedive once you actually start needing the SSD as RAM

You're a fuckwit OP

How about you take a nosedive into my ram.

I have now made a new Ram drive and I'm gone above 3TB of ram.

Heres my Cpu. show me yours.

i5 4690

ironically my pc probably outperforms yours the moment you actually put that into use

you understand you've made a large, slow swap disk that will have a lot of problems, yes?

Congratulations. You have a fast swap disk that wouldn't be touched if you just put sufficient RAM in your system.
>>
>>51530369
or you could buy 20 hard drives in raid 0 and do the same thing for like 60TB of ram :^)

Pff, DDR3. I was seeing better back in 2004 with DDR1.
>>
>>51531016

Geez, and I just ran some latency tests on my RAM vs SSD. Ram saw about 62ns, the SSD's seq 4MB read latency was 8.3ms. That's a 133,870 times slower response time. Seq 4MB write was 16ms, 250,000 slower.
>>
>>51533897
There's probably some server boards that can do that
>>
sort of related to this thread. saw that SSDs are super cheap right now. Would getting a 2nd and creating a raid array be worth it?

You do realise that the data still needs to go through your actual RAM?

General question about RAM here. I'm running a G.1 Sniper H6 1150 mobo that supports dual channel RAM. I currently have 2x4g sticks of corsair vengeance ddr3 1600 RAM installed. I'm thinking about getting another two sticks of the same RAM but I'm unsure of the pros and cons of doing so. Any help? Also my cpu is an I5-4460 (non overclockable) if it makes any difference. Thanks.
>>
>>51536697
>pros
more ram

>cons
none, if you use your PC like a "normal" person.
>>
>>51536697
>>51536944
Also, this is why you dont buy 4Gb dual channel anymore but single channel 8Gb.
>>
>>51536950
Well it was part of a newegg package deal so that was my only option at the time. Saved me a lot of money overall so I'm happy with it.
