The sole benefit of development in Linux is that I can simply type commands into the terminal to download libraries, compile code, etc.
However, this means I'm not using an IDE as my development environment. And therefore productivity is zero. The fancy terminal commands, and by extension Linux, are irrelevant.
It's 1972+43, why can't I have the best of both worlds? Why do you shoot yourself in the foot by developing in Linux, when in reality it's best to use an IDE, and thus any other OS?
Because it makes me feel cool
Anything an IDE can do Linux do es ir better, I don't even have to type anything to compile. Hotkeyd a button to run my make file and shit
You are just a regard op

Nice bait. Here come the neets.
Oh BTW if you actually believe this you are retarded.

how's it feel being a piece of shit?
Vim is enough of an IDE. Though, IDE's for Linux exist just as well as for Windows. I use IntelliJ IDEA for Java and plenty of people use Code::Blocks for C++.

Is plenty now a codeword for "a grand total of 0, flat"?

Are you implying that there is no such thing as a Linux IDE ? I'm using netbeans all day for Java, C++ and PHP
>inb4 netbeans
yep, still a student, no fucks given about my opinion.
I work on a pretty big java codebase with a lot of dependencies with shit documentation at work. Using and IDE for code editing/browsing makes my life much easier. Although I still use the command line for building and got stuff.
So being able to develop on a *nix based platform is still pretty important to me even though I use an IDE

personally I prefer to write manually.
i'm probably alone on this working with ghetto hardware all my life, but IDE's can crash...not worth the bonuses.
in comparison, I challenge you to crash notepad or equivilent.

Visual Studio source code was released last week at Connect();
Support has been announced for Linux.
You have no excuse now.

MISINFORMATION
The source code for "Visual Studio Code" was open sourced, not the source code for "Visual Studio".
Deliberate confusion by Microsoft. Evil as usual.

i find myself more productive in vim than anything else.
i've tried visual studio, i've tried xcode, and eclipse and i keep going back to vim with a few collection of plugins like syntastic and air plane.
visual studio imo is a massive cluster fuck.
xcode is nice for developing mac shit
eclipse is decent
but vim just makes me focus better. i also pay more attention to my code.
