I can hit 2.4gb/s with 840 pro in rapid mode. But you don't see that much of a performance increase in real life just in benchmarks. On mobile atm when I get home I can post benchmarks. About 2 hours give or take.

The program in my first pic is from samsung magician. I get these speeds because of RAPID mode. You don't notice as much improvement as you would think so I'm guessing RAPID mode gets the high numbers in synthetic benchmarks and not so much in real world use. But it is definitely faster with RAPID mode.

it does make my system start maybe 1-2 seconds faster. I was reading that one of the best benefits of RAPID mode is might actually increase the life of the drive because it uses the flash memory in the ssd less or uses the NAND controller less or something like that.

Are Win8+ transfer speeds slower than Windows 7? I have an 840 Evo which used to get 500+MB read and write in Windows 7 but as soon as I formatted to Windows 8.1 I only got 350-400 (around max Sata 2 speeds). I now have a brand new 850 Evo and have formatted to Windows 10 and I get similar sorts of speeds. I have a Sabertooth 990FX and there are no Sata3 drivers or anything available.

Ignore any SSD without Power Loss Protection (PLP) you might find yourself with a 300 dollar brick. Also I recommend Intel 750. Expensive but reliability is what should drive performance and not the other way around.

NVMe is the new standard for SSD. Windows 10 and modern BIOS support it natively. The drivers are now standardized so yes if your SSD has NVMe your good to go.

All of them its mainly reserved for enterprise level SSD. Very few consumer grade SSD have them, Samsung has some kind of firmware level solution but what you need is capacitors to flush the NANDS in the event of power loss.Seriously look up "SSD disappearing from BIOS". Its not the wear leveling that'll destroy SSDs its data corruption. Intel 750 has PLP but the spec sheet says it doesn't protect in every event.

True, but I've been reading that even though some drives claim to have them they aren't all too reliable and eventually succumb to being bricked. Mind you not immediately PLP even if poorly implemented helps but they will fail.

From what it sounds like, Sandisk's drives back that up to a reserved part of the drive regularly while writing the data to avoid problems.

Wish someone told me about this shit back in 2010 my fucking OCZ vertex 2 bricked randomly and without warning. I was planing to raid 0, 2 velociraptors in my X99 build cause I was so uncertain of SSDs. Back then there was no explanation no reason it just happened. Well now I no better and I pray Intel is as reliable as I think they are. Performance is pointless if its not consistent, it needs to work and it needs to last.

Was thinking the same thing, Funny too I lost that SSD because of a sudden power loss. I plan on picking up a UPS anyway but the only other scenario that would cause a sudden loss of power would be if you had to force a restart during a system hang (windows freezes for some reason), Usually data is not being written during a hang but I rather be safe then sorry.
