Am I the only person who thinks 1440p is a small stopgap and will be obsolete in a years time due to 4k monitors becoming cheaper and 2016 gpu potential being able to handle games at 4k60?

I need a reason to upgrade my 1080p monitor but I just can't find a good enough reason to go 1440p.

No shit, Sherlock.
4K too won't last for long, at least not in gaming.

I have had a 1440p monitor for 5 years (dell u2711). They are great. I will replace it in the future with a 3440*1440 wide monitor.

It'll become the new 1080p. Basically the bare bones standard. Consoles will probably be able to achieve 4k30 when the next gen comes out 2 years and midrange gpus will target good 4k performance.

Any higher resolution will be for the hardcore. I can see 4k being the standard for a long time.

this. pushing past 4k on a 24" monitor would be close to pointless anyway, and since many people game on roughly that size things will stagnate for a bit on the resolution front.

Fortunately, this will leave us space to improve in other facets - like screen refresh rate. If it takes a few years for specs to get from 4k@30Hz to 4k@144Hz or higher, that's not too bad.

Anti Aliasing is the key point.
4K is close to eradicating it, but isn't 100% there.
I'm not talking about super large resolutions like 8K, more like 5-6K. It's just better suited.

144Hz, 4k, ISP all on a 24inch monitor is the dream

a 980ti or fury x can handle every game at 4k basically

in 1-2 games you would have to turn down "Ultra" to "High"

Yeah, that's not happening. Which is why 1440 will be a great compromise for the next few years, certainly worth buying monitors at this resolution. 4k 60fps is still too far off and not a viable option at the moment. Well, at a reasonable price level at least not.

Nigga it's going to happen. Even if it's the Titan 1080 Ti no scope or the Fury XXX, it's going to happen.

I have 1440p on a 25 inch monitor and it seems ideal, but I don't know if I'd go 4k at that size. Not until EVERY OS can into hidpi.

This shit is god damn ridiculous. Even OSX which has the best scaling isn't even THAT good, it just looks nice for apple programs.
