It was the only white board I could find at the time, and I wanted to do a white/black build. Before that, though, I had a Sabertooth Z77 since it looked clean. As for the dust comment, I disagree with that. I had my Sabertooth Z77 for over two years, and when I took the plastic shroud off to clean it before selling it, there was nothing to clean. A bit of dust near where the fan was, but it was completely clean otherwise, and my room is fully carpeted.
I guess it just comes down to personal preference. If I had to put it in one of your two categories, I'd have to say it's just "factory rice."

Nah mate, third party cooling solutions don't work in this motherboard orientation. The contents of the heat pipes will be at the bottom because of gravity and those open fans just dump the air into the case. No, upward-facing cases like mine need a blow-cooler.

If all I want to achieve is a maxed out MGSV at 1080p60, the 960 is perfect for that. And there really is no need for 4GB if all I'm doing is 1080p in games of equivalent graphical fidelity (which really is all you're going to achieve on a 960). If I had a 2GB 970 I would understand but a 4GB 960 is actually retarded.

1080p is not the same for every game since every game doesn't have the same graphical fidelity. GTAV maxed at 1080p probably looks better than MGSV maxed at 1080p. Optimization is also a factor (just look at DMC4, that shit runs at 1080p on toasters and still looks good). I'm perfectly OK with what this card can do and don't need every game maxed out or 1440p/4K in the near future.
I also am not going to ever spend $500 on a graphics card since I'm 18 and have better things to do with my limited amount of money.

Not a huge fan of AMD. Never had good experiences with them. While I'll admit the current generations are nice, I'm loyal to Nvidia. Haven't had any issues with them. AMD has been nothing but issues for me, and I've had 4 cards from them - a 4350, two 5670s and a 7750.

Thanks. I figured if I asked it normally no one would respond, idk. I'm leaning towards the be quiet in all black because I like the look, and it would probably be quieter. Still, most reviews seem to really like the r5 whereas the be quiet gets a more mixed reaction. I do a lot of work in Photoshop and Lightroom.
980ti would be another $300.
The 970 is fine for my use.
It would make more sense to me to just get another $300 card with newer internals in another two years or so if the 970 doesn't last even longer than that for me.
Also, it's a cube case, so the hard drives are mounted behind the motherboard tray.
Not worth it for me.

Got the system secondhand on Craigslist, has a BIOSTAR Group TA990FXE. If a DAC really is the answer here, wouldn't that be more expensive than a new cheap soundcard? I'm thinking of the O2 or something, not sure if I'm thinking of what you're referring to

When you said "soundcard" I figured you meant an internal soundcard.
An internal soundcard is a DAC as well, it converts digital signals to analog.
An external DAC is just easier to use (you can move it around, move it to another machine, and not use up a PCI slot).
The O2 by itself is not a DAC or soundcard, it is only an amplifier. It's usually packaged with an ODAC as well though, which is a good combo.

95% finished on the loop, only thing I want to change is the front rad to GPU run, don't like how I have to tilt the vertical tube in relation to the rad to make it line up. Got some fittings coming for that.

I get fine temps for what I use it for. I was emulating some GameCube games yesterday in 1080p w/4xMSAA in Dolphin and the hottest the CPU got was ~47°C. When I encode blu-rays it gets around ~55°C. I'll replace it with something better when the thermal paste starts to dry out, but for now the Intel fan + AP181 fan above it do the job.
...plus I really don't want to take the motherboard out completely just to add a new cooler, it's a pain in the ass with this case.
