Hey /g/ i got pic related

A guy who got it from a school sale picked it up, a year later, he gave it to me. i put it off to the side

And literaly forgot about it for about another year or two ...

I can play around in the system, but the default account is under some heavy restrictions, and i'm probably just gonna wipe it, or use it as is... I haven't decided

it's running windows 2000
Celeron (i can't tell if it's an original P2 core or P3 yet, i'll run more tests)
128MB Ram
4GB HDD
2 Batteries installed in the system.

So what can i use it for in practicality? There's nothing it can do that my other computers wont?

Why do thinkpad users use their shit?

What should i do with it? Wipe it with windows (probably 2k - if i'm gonna keep it as a novelty, why use a system i already have access too) ? Use it as a coding thing with Linux? Use it as a coding thing with windows? What can i use to code on here, Visual C kinda blows up until 201x - Whats the good windows Compiler? MinGW still good? or we got a win-clang or some shit? Worst case i'll probably just use it for word processing, old games, and irc or some shit...

What distro could i run with that low of ram if i went linux?

do you honestly believe this is comparable to the thinkpads people here use?
>>
>>51499931
God no, but i know that people do use at least 5-10 yr old ones...
>>
I have one of these on my night stand. It's fucking useless, both of the bay batteries are dead, one of the keys on the keyboard randomly stops working, and it can't run any OS worth caring about.
>>
Sell it for like $60, yes people are that stupid
>>
>>51500164
If it lacks value, why would anyone buy it.. i mean, it's a nice solid machine, i'll give it that, but... why?

Because thinkpads are still being made modern.
>>
>>51500667
And because the very old ones are collector's items when people get them cheap/free. Nobody uses them as their work machines.

I use a Dell Latitude J series as my personal diary. The keyboard is quite nice.

I could use my desktop for writing, of course, but I enjoy going in the living room at night with this laptop and writing down my thoughts. There is no internet connector or games or really much of anything other than a very stripped down Windows XP and Abi Word on the machine.

chuck that piece of shit in the rubbish bin m8
>>
>>51500033
Yeah, grandmas that won't leave XP. Linux would lag on that relic.
>>
>>51501187
lubuntu lags on my 1.5ghz g4 with 2gb of ram, i can't even imagine being constrained to 128mb ram. hell my router has more ram.

>>51501187
srsy m8? My first linux machine was a 486. Shit ran fine.

Install one of them minimal Linux distros.

This. We use Thinkpads (or other used corporate laptops) from 2005-2013.

Specs look like probably a mendocino celeron. Not terrible, not really good either, just kind of a shitbox.

>So what can i use it for in practicality? There's nothing it can do that my other computers wont?
Someone needs to make an image reply for this kind of shit. It does computer stuff, use it to run legacy software, programming or whatever if you like the keyboard, or whatever the fuck else it did when it was new.

I personally think installing Linux on this old shit pretty much makes it useless since other than the physical experience you're just getting the same shit you would out of a new system but 10 times slower. Put 98 back on it or whatever it shipped with, download an old version of Gvim and remote access clients for a cozy basic development shitbox.

128 MB is actually still usable, JS however will wreck your shit before you even fill half of it.

I regularly shitpost from a 128 MB RAM system with 1-4 4chan tabs at a time.
