Vim vs Emacs
>>51496938
gedit
nano
>>51496938
Just choose one and stop being a faggot
>>51497039
This. They're both great.
>>51496938
Tbqh, their both good but at different things. Emacs sucks as a text editor bout is pretty much good for anything else due to it's nice lpugin system while vim is basically the opposite. So yeah their both good, although I use vim more often.
>>51497242
*but and *plugin
>>Goddamn typos
>>51496938
if you're so fucking 1337 h4x0r program your fucking own
>>51496938
Learn them both, make up your own damn mind.
emacs is great for complex editing, while nano is great for quick edits
acme is my true love though, probably
vim and emacs are both good. Atom is best
zsh
>>51496938
Wow emacs apple shill, when will it end
>>51496938
nano then vim
Vim is a better as an editor, but Emacs is better overall. So, Emacs + Evil mode is the best way to go.
>>51496938
Emacs is better because it was the first editor I used
>>51498565
Also this. For most things, nano is perfectly fine
>>51497028
>>51498441
um that's not an editor
>>51498418
Kill yourself.
>>51499036
lol why? atom is based.
>>51497524
An editor that can't even open files with whitespace in their path or display tab characters can't be taken seriously.
Not to mention that you only use three mouse buttons to issue commands; not being able to bind commands to keys is a death sentence for productivity, and no, middle clicking some text in your hotbar is not as fast as hitting a function key.
>>51499088
Public ban please.
>>51499088
It's literally meme tier
>can't open large text files
>slow
>uses ungodly amounts of resources because it's a browser
>>51497242
>Emacs sucks as a text editor
I thought Emacs was supposed to be a fucking text editor?
>>51496938
emacs is good but its hotkeys just suck, thank god there's evil mode
>>51499364
This is a meme. Emacs is a good text editor.
>>51499336
>can't open large text files
I´m programming, not reading a book
>slow
lolwat.jpg
>uses ungodly amounts of resources because it's a browser
who cares. its a fucking editor, not like the computer can´t handle it.
I think editors should be aimed towards productivity, getting shit done fast.
>>51499815
>I think editors should be aimed towards productivity, getting shit done fast.
which atom simply doesn't do
>>51496938
Or you can use both.
>>51499815
>getting shit done fast
I'm going to do some atom benchmarks vs other text editors to make you eat these words :^)
i use sublime for real work because its nicer on the eyes and vim for everything else because its a lot easier than opening a separate program or switching workspaces
>>51499364
It's just an incredibly unfunny meme.
>>51498692
This
>>51496938
I use vim. It just seems simpler. I don't need a lot of features emacs has. I do like a lot of things emacs does, however.
>>51496938
emacs -nw with cua master race.
emacs
emacs + evil masterrace
Emacs is best
I don't know if I'm fucked in the head or something but as a Windows user vim is 10x easier to learn than Sublime and Atom. It just feels more natural.
Kate master race reporting in
>>51499364
it's more of a operating system, but it lacks good text editing
>>51496938
Emacs is definitely better, but I use vi (not vim) to make a quick edit when typing -nw would be a significant amount of the editing time.
>>51496938
(neo)vim for me. I like a lot of what emacs does but its just not for me.
Sublime and atom are meme-tier tools for people incapable of learning to customise/use the above
>>51500829
This. Emacs is bloated in comparison to vim. I simply just want to edit a file not check my email. That doesn't mean that it's shit though, it just means I don't want to use anything I don't need at the moment
>>51499364
It's a Lisp Machine emulator. The last stronghold of computing sanity.
>claims to be a programmer
>doesn't use an editor that can be used to program itself interactively
topkek. I'll bet you think carpentry is just assembling furniture from Ikea.
>>51504742
>claims to be a programmer
>doesn't program his own tools
